DRAFT Pick 37, Patriots Select Safety Kyle Dugger (Division2)

I for one didn't want to see ANY DB picked in the first 3 rounds, simply because it wasn't an area of immediate need. But the fact remains that this kid's measurables are off the chart. He's an athlete as a pure athlete, Bill got a first round talent, and the price he paid is that he'll a guy that won't be an impact player in his rookie year. What he WILL be this year is a core special teamer, who will learn the ropes from 2 of the best mentors he could hope to find, in McCourty and Chung.

While my initial reaction was to hate the pick, like so many others. The reality is that we really needed young blood at the position. This kid SOUNDS like someone who could be a big times starter down the road. So I'm OK with the pick.

BTW- since I didn't listen to the draft, who were the picks people would have RATHER taken with this pick.
I'll have to go back and do I quick check when the dust settles in a day or two. I definitely sign off on both TEs where we grabbed them. Have to go back and check who was on the board during the other picks its been a whirlwind.

That's why i grade before the draft. No hindsight or have to look back at post history. All right there to look at.

Every time the Pats and Jets pick so close to each other, it reminds me of when the Jets took Kyle Wilson a little after Devin McCourty then their fans spent like 3 years claiming they got the better player.

with 2 safeties being 33, I consider it an immediate need. I think McCourty is good for another 2 years but I would not be surprised if Chung is just about done so this pick was very good and necessary after also losing Harmon.

Chung's contract is reasonable plus he still had 90 tackles last year. Chung has one more year in the tank before this 3-time Champ goes into the Patriots Hall of Fame.

I felt like Chung kind of lost some of his coverage mojo last year. He may be breaking down a bit. Duggar could push somebody off the roster, doubt it is Chung, but you never know.

How could you pick a Last Chance U player over someone like Winfield who dominated in coverage against Division 1s best talent?

huge huge risk pick at 37 with upside.

Post June 1 we save 3.5 mill cutting Chung.
I don’t think Chung can make it through another season physically.

This is my favorite patriot draft pick in a long time. I’d put it with Seymour, Mayo, Hightower, Gronk in my top 5 of the bb era at the time the pick was made.

Why are you so eager to cut Chung? There are so many question marks at SS after Chung who has been elite for like 10 years. Better to have the D2 kid learn for a year under the vets.

Do we still call a dude who's been in college for 6 years a kid? A D2 24 year old at 37 is great. I firmly believe BB just takes DB bums in the 2nd to mess with us.

I think we have enough depth that the 3.5 mill of savings is worth it for a declining player who is breaking down physically.

The difference on defense with Chung out compared to playing is huge. This D completely falls apart without strong SS play in the box. Who even sets the edge now on the DLine? Who is replacing Van Noy and Collins? Seems to me like you want the Pats to go 2-14.
