So pumped! 5 picks tonight and maybe more if we can unload Joe Thunney....

I think Thuney tonight is a very real possibility. Is it to get a 3rd or will he be packaged with a 3rd to fetch a 2nd ?

Ian said that he was gong to start this, so we wouldn't have a normally well-trafficked thread started by someone who LOTS of people have on an ignore list, thus they won't see it.

We have that here.

Why the fetish to unload Thuney?

A) Cap for an impact player

B) Better a 2 now than an FA comp 3 after we get another year of him

C) I’m missing something?

well, if this thread sticks, I thought that this was interesting:

One personnel director calls this “the deepest second round in the last 25 years.” He believes there are 20 players available tonight that could have been first-round picks; there usually are 7-10. “There will be as many starters in this round that there are in the first round.”

Didn't get the message from Ian, so if he likes, he can hijack this thread....:)

Cap space

I just pray that Belichick doesn’t have a Joe Biden dementia moment & draft another CB bust in the 2nd round.

When we traded out of #23, Schefter said that the Pats will be able to get who they wanted at #23 with the #37 pick.

That was a strange comment & I am thinking it must be a TE or a QB like Jalen Hurts.

Sad to see OP to Draft Day 2 going for “unloading Thuney“

One of the best and most durable players over 4 years & w Scar gone.
Yes there's argument to be made for letting him go - and also for keeping him - but expecting a significant draft capital for a guard that asks for top G contract - and being more excited about the prospect of that pick than the known commodity is just ...

btw
Pats have $100M cap next year. That means they can keep Thuney . no matter what current virtual cap numbers say. So its not about cap but about price tag. Keeping two top G contracts could be excessive - but not out of the realm..

I would prefer he stay. Love me some Thuney. I’m just going on (1) cap issues (2) reports of being far apart (3) today’s third he might fetch > next year’s comp 3rd (4) BB penchant

Want Thuney. Exemple of everything BB covets. Just going on past.

It's the reality of a franchised guard in a season with the team having no cap space.

Look on the bright side: The Texans draft threads will be starting off discussing Laremy Tunsil getting $22m a year.

We have 1-2 million in cap space. Trading Thunney gives us a big cushion, which Belichick likes to have.

A Biden moment would be Belichick saying, when asked of his draft choice, "I'm Bill Belichick and I'm the HC of the Cleveland Browns and if you don't like it you can have the other Belichick."

So yeah, he would just not even make a pick.

One of the headlines reads "Patriots reportedly exploring trading down in Day 2 of NFL Draft. Isn't it obvious that BB is more interested in making trades than in obtaining
good players for his football team. Maybe, this is why his drafts the last 4 years haven't
been so hot.
Two years ago, Bill wanted a cornerback in the 2nd round. He kept trading down. Then,
there was a run on cornerbacks and he had to hurriedly trade back up. He ended up
settling for that bum, Duke Dawson.

The more I think about it, trading out of 37 for the Saints 2021 1st could be a really good move. With no Teddy Bridgewater as a backup the Saints are a Drew Brees injury away from having a good pick next year. If we could get their 2021 1st and maybe something like swap one of our 4ths for their 3rd it would still give us 5 3rd round picks. If we Trade Thuney for another day 2 pick that would give us even more ammo to target particular players we like.

Can we please stop the trolling!!!
