My question is do BB and McDaniels actually have a workable plan to make the team competitive this year OR are they flying by the seat of their pants hoping they get lucky in the draft and just believe they are entitled to 1-2 crap years as part of a once every 20 year rebuild.

Its hard to see the plan, we will find out this weekend if they substantially improve their team or not (on paper)
BB flying by the seat of his pants? Are you knew to the Patriots?

****, trade him to Tampa for a 5th. He can have a sleep over with Tom and his boyfriend Gronk. **** everyone

Drafting a tackle doesn't solve the problems at center. Andrews may be at 100% or not. And as you said, he is in his contract year.

I doubt that Belichick love a tackle at 23 so much that he would have him start in his rookie year at LT, and move Wynn to a new position.

Presuming that we are moving Thuney at some point, I would draft Ruiz or an OT at 23. Trading down even 5 spots risks losing him, AND missing out on whatever OT Belichick MIGHT have in mind.
If you draft Ruiz, you're starting him at center in 2021 and letting Andrews go. You're still gonna need a LG. Either way, you're going to need two linemen from somewhere.

So this means he's traded and s long term deal with new team is immediately signed
Maybe. I don't know... working out a trade with the Patriots AND working out one of the richest deals ever given to a guard might be a tough ask in the next 24-36 hours with everything else teams are doing to get ready for the draft.

It appears Ruiz might be a fit at Guard as well.
The other option is to move Wynn to LG and Draft an OT. May decent OT's in this class....not much in interior line.

Why this makes absolutely no sense. Draft day, you are sure you have a pick in hand so you know the holes you need to fill. BB is too smart for that "wait" crap. What is the advantage? None. Except oh by the way, now where do we pick up a Guard? Another off the street special?

This is a different year than ever for BB. He used to wheel and deal. Now he can't. The bravado is gone. He lost his Draft leverage with a collection of many not valuable picks in the later rounds. He's lost his trade leverage to gain proven players because of those crappy picks. He is CAP strapped to even hire those FA that might still help.

There is no sense of Drafting another young QB when you already have one in diapers. I might eat my words but do you hand the keys over to a kid who has thrown 4 passes with one pick 6, to one of the most storied franchises in the NFL? We have all watched this kids tape. He should be a very good back up...a Matt Moore type.

Please tell me one advantage of waiting until after the Draft to use what might be your best bargaining chip in Thuney to help in a very player needy 2020?

Stupid need not be the cry in this Draft unless we are tanking. I don't believe BB is that.

So your saying Thuney is being traded today or tomorrow

Nightmare offseason from hell. Paying the price for 6 super bowl titles, bad recent drafts and Brady's dead cap. Unusually passive front office management.
I think franchising Thuney was a big mistake.
Should have realized that he would not accept an affordable extension and just realized that they would get a 3rd or 4th round compensation pick.

instead 2 months of being hamstrung regarding any meaningful UFA moves.

As a 52 year Pats fan who has lived through many nights arise seasons, I can accept this and say Thank you Bill and Tom for the 6 super bowl rings.

In the 60,s, 70's, 80's was just happy when Pats were not the laughing stock of the league.

Thuney is gone. Some dumb team will overpay him. I’m thinking he gets traded for at least a 3rd. That means the accept a 4th.

You might have a poor handle of the word « nightmare » and « paying »...

Almost ALL non-Patriots SB winners in recent memory are « all in » and risk cap hell, losing most of their core, and being irrelevant for years for the CHANCE at the SB. Case in point : Rams 2018.

Six SBs. There is no such thing as « we are paying for SIX SBs ». What does that even mean !?! Of course we are. So what ?!?! Six trophies is unreal.

I think many posters are not in touch with the realities of competing in the NFL; let alone winning ONE SB. It’s unbelievably difficult.

I can’t be alone in thinking that « paying for six SBs » is one of the craziest patsfans history.

Edit : We might be of the same opinion. I think your start and ending is confusing. Are they nightmarish or are you happy for the wins ?

This offseason has been a nightmare so far. As a longtime pats fans dating back to when they played in Fenway park, in spite of this painful offseason I am grateful for the past 20 years

Just seeing a few reports that the dolphins could be interested in Thuney, however these maybe old

Kind of odd that thuney was a second team all pro last season, but never a pro bowler!

to keep us competitive, BB needs to do what he does not usually do, trade up for a high draft pick and draft Tua or Justin Hebert. Low picks are going to cost us.
