Gronk trade completed

A 4th is nowhere close to nothing.

You could get some quality in the 4th round...and you could always package the 4th and one of our extra thirds to get into the 2nd round (maybe)

So why wasn't OJ part of this trade?

Well, it seems people are in two camps.............

1.) One camp says "screw 'em"....you want to leave? I hope you suck

2.) The other camp hopes to see two Patriot legends have continued success even beyond the Pats.

I'm in camp 2, but my wife and daughter are in camp 1, so it's crazy even in my own household.

I’m in 3. Wish them well but that’s all. I am not cheering for the Bucs on their account unless it benefits us or they are playing a team I dislike lol

Tampa is about to unleash their two-TE package now. They'd be stupid not to try to keep Howard.

Kinda sucks that Gronk will be playing elsewhere but it is what it is, converting a 7th into a 4th for the rights to a guy who would otherwise not have played for you is a win.

Wonder if it's pick 117 or 139. Hope it's 117. Pats will have a lot of picks between 87 and 125 (5). Probably a good place to have a plethora of picks considering they have needs at WR and it's a deep draft at that position.
I bet they offered 139 and the 7th got them 117

I was hoping for a 3rd but a free 4th rounder is not terrible. He wasn't coming back to play for the Pats.

At this point all I know is we need to draft better.

Well we don’t have a 2nd round pick, so Bill won’t be picking another CB bust in the 2nd round this year.

I really hope we don’t pick a DB before the 6th round this year.

Belichick does better with UDFA than he does picking DB’s in the 2nd round.

So will Gronk defend his 24x7 title on the field? Lol

Can use the fourth for douple dip te and get some money for our cap space
I think it was 9 Million right ? I might be wrong but this would be nice
I mean he wouldn’t play for us anymore anyway
We're not gaining or losing any cap space. Status quo.

Meh, I expected a 3rd or even OJ...
This kinda sucks, trading hall of fame TE with not much in return.

I bet they offered 139 and the 7th got them 117
I hope so. Part of me hopes they move up into the 2nd but also kinda think they will trade back from 23 to get a 2nd. Really juicy spot in the draft to have all those picks.

What were people expecting to fetch for a guy who hasn’t played football for an entire season, and who was a shell of himself in his last season? The fact that we got a fourth round pick for nothing is great.

If the bucs are out there raising a banner you can take the players side if you like but I'm gonna look at it as a missed opportunity for number 7.

Gronk did what was best for him and I dont fault him for it.

But its crazy to see bill lose two goats for a 4th round pick and a likely 3rd round comp pick.

It's not about side. If you want to be bummed, be bummed. But it's not selfishness to not want to take a beating for a coach/team you're tired of.

This might not make Patriots fans feel any better, but the last two retired players traded were dealt in low-round pick swaps. Seahawks got a fifth-sixth round swap for Marshawn Lynch. The Ravens got a sixth-seventh swap for Rolando McClain. Patriots got fourth-seventh swap.

This trade isn't about how good Gronk is, it's about leverage. The two options were TB or staying retired. He could have forced the Pats to release him had he unretired given their cap situation so getting a free 4th seems decent result all things considered.
