I think that this is a good time for this thread. No matter how good or bad we think the patriots are at drafting, we all know that we oqccaiosnally have big whiffs.

BTW, for me, the worst choices are NOT players that were injured and didn't contribute. Also, for me, a player who player for 4 or more years in the NFL, even at a backup, aren't the worst ever. Finally, anyone picked after the 4th cannot possibly be among the worst ever.

Before thinking about it more seriously, I'll write down the first player that comes to mind. BRACE (2, 40) was an awful pick. He was the slowest player in the entire draft.

For Belichick? Jordan Richards. Pretty easily too, since most people looked that the pick and were stunned by how stupid it was.

We had a few first round busts but at the time they looked like reasonably good picks.

Had high hopes for Easley. Really didn’t work out.

Duke Dawson. Awful pick at the time. Traded UP to get him. Traded him a year later for pennies on the dollar

IIRC he was somehow meant as Wilfork insurance (they were having trouble agreeing on a new deal). But Wilfork was like an angry grizzly bear, while Brace (RIP) was . . . not.

What about giving up the 16th overall pick in the 2000 draft... for a guy who never even played a single freaking down!!!!!!

Ger Schwedes
Football "Phil" Olsen
Kenneth Sims
Hart Lee Dykes
chris Canty
Andy Katsenmoyer

Great list.

I would add:
Ras I-Dowling
Eugene Chung
Christian Peter

who was the LB with the toothpick legs a few years back? Canty?

Andy Katsenmoyer
He was actually pretty good when he played. 101 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an INT that he took to the house in his first season. He had a career ending neck injury that forced him to retire. He was an athletic freak.

If you want to unfairly put him in that category, than Robert Edwards belongs there too.

Andy Katsenmoyer

Huh? Draft bust because he almost died on the field? Don't you remember the hit he took? I thought he broke his neck. Can't we at least keep the word "bust" for players who sucked when they played and not for ones who just happened to get injured?

BTW, I thought Katzenmoyer was a great pick and I was bummed out that his career was cut short due to injury. In 1997, the guy was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American, won the **** Butkus Award and the Jack Lambert Trophy. He was a great college player and most thought he was going to be a great player in the NFL. Injuries suck, but I think we never got to see what he could do because of that nasty neck injury.

Here’s a name nobody ever talks about. Kevin O’Connell.

The team had so many needs going into the 2008 offseason, yet they burn a 3rd round pick on a QB?

The guy picked after him burned the Pats in the Super Bowl 3 years later.

Have to say that off the title of the thread I was thinking Easley but the OP tossed in a caveat about injury (who arrived here already injured) and my first choice was wiped out. For the BB era
after him it's a coin flip for me between Ras I Dowling (who at least ARRIVED healthy) and Chad Jackson who flat out sucked. Dishonorable mentions to Wheatley and Cyrus The Football Virus

Pre BB there are just too many in that cast of thousands to narrow it down to a single 'worst'

Eugene Chung was pretty bad. Chad Jackson....man that was disappointing....

Jermaine Cunningham was a pretty stupid pick considering his teammate was waaaaaaay better and the obvious choice.

Yes, I know your rebuttal already, “but he fit better as 3-4 LB”. Yeah, they quickly went to a 4-3.

N'Keal Harry. Fully convinced Brady left to play with better receivers. If that pick had been AJ Brown or Deebo Samuel I'm convinced Brady is still Patriot :(
