2020 mock drafts: what the pundits think

No, this isn't an April Fool's joke.

Peter Schrager NFL mock draft 1.0: Dolphins take QB, WR, RB

23 - Jeremy Chinn - S
School: Southern Illinois | Year: Senior

The Patriots will be in the hunt for a quarterback, but I'm not sure Jordan Love, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm or Jalen Hurts make a ton of sense at this point in the draft. Does a do-it-all safety from a small school? Maybe not initially, but scouts rave about Chinn, whose metrics lined up with Isaiah Simmons' at the combine. Capable of playing safety or linebacker, Chinn would be learning from Bill Belichick, the linebacker corps, the McCourty brothers and Patrick Chung, and could be used in a variety of ways.

A lot of these pundits think we will be drafting Jordan Love. I just don't see it happening. So far, all signs point towards Belichick running with Stidham as our QB1. Drafting Jordan Love in the first round just doesn't make a lot of sense even if we want a development QB sitting behind Stidham. A day 2 or day 3 QB pick would make more sense.

Frankly it's just proof that the NFL media is full of ****ing idiots.

If Love, Herbert or Fromm were actually any good, then they'd be mocked much higher in the 1st round. They'd be going in the top 10 because they'd be franchise quarterbacks. But the reality is that all three are fundamentally flawed, and none of them deserve to go in the first round. All they offer is hope/dreams/delusions.

Instead we get this moronic ******** where 'analysts' think that a player should go in the 1st round, so they just mock them to any team that needs a QB. It's dumb, dumb, dumb.

If you see a draft mocking us a QB, close the page and ignore everything else they say. Because the author is clearly an idiot.

Belichick is all in on Stidham, and so are the players. It's clear as day.

2020 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Miller's Post-Free-Agency Predictions

23. EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State
87. TE Adam Trautman, Dayton
98. WR Lynn Bowden, Kentucky
100. LB Troy Dye, Oregon
125. IOL Tyler Biadasz, Wisconsin
172. CB Lavert Hill, Michigan
195. LB Willie Gay Jr.
204. RB Rico Dowdle, South Carolina
212. OT Jack Driscoll, Auburn
213. QB Jake Luton, Oregon State
230. WR Quez Watkins, Southern Miss
241. DL Malcolm Roach, Texas

Apparently Miller is one of those folks that pretends K/P don't get drafted. I'm going to pretend 172 is Blankenship or Bass.

Well the Patriots and a lot of teams missed out on Lamar Jackson and he didn't go until pick #32. So yes there can be franchise QBs who slip out of the top 10. You just need great scouting.

I haven't watched any of these guys so I can't confirm or deny that they are trash. But there's always a chance that a QB will far outperform expectations. See Tom Brady in the 6th, Dak Prescott in the 4th, and Russell Wilson in the 3rd.

I get that, and you make good points. But in return, I would say that the Lamar Jackson issue was whether his game could adapt to the NFL level (and these days we are seeing that the answer is increasingly yes). Whereas this year's motley crew is flawed quarterbacks who seem to be missing fundamental basics to succeed at the NFL level. I'm talking about basic requirements such as 'accuracy' and 'reading defences'. Anyone can have a pretty arm; it's about what else you're bringing to the table.

I think you're right that there's very often a late-round QB that no-one sees coming, and I definitely can't claim to know the non-Top 5 QBs well this year. But there seems to be a certain species of late-1st round-QB that always fails - Brandon Weeden, EJ Manuel, Johnny Manziel, Paxton Lynch. And yet 'analysts' keep claiming that certain QBs deserve to be drafted in the 2nd half of the 1st round. Whereas if anyone actually believed in them, then they'd be drafted much earlier.

I just see Herbert (has never shown it consistently on film) and Love (can't read coverage) as inevitable busts, and it drives me mad when I see them mocked to us.

Fromm is an interesting one - he's got everything except sufficient arm talent. Maybe better mechanics can fix it, but his throwing motion is already well-refined. You can't draft him as a 1st round franchise quarterback, but maybe you take him as a project in the 2nd.

Every year there are one or two QB's that become everybody's darling. Pats will draft them and we will be all set. Will Grier was one of last year's darlings. This year its Jake Fromm. The last game I watched him in I was not impressed, don't remember but think it was the South Carolina loss. So I predict BB will not draft Jake Fromm and will instead draft someone that will disappoint all the Frommers. I only liked two of them this year. Anthony Gordon as a definite mid round draft choice and James Morgan as a flyer at the end of the draft. So they will probably take Nate Stanley or Brian Lewerke, neither of whom I cared for at all.

Bolded all the guys I'm big on

Seems to me we can grab a pretty good T pretty damn late

MacFarlane and Willekes are both great values in R4

Fond of all 3 of these hauls

New England Patriots complete seven-round mock draft - Pats Pulpit

This is a pretty likable mock

Baun, Hamler, Hopkins, Fromm, Biadasz, and Blankenship is a pretty good haul

Still feel that at least a LB should be added...I like Dye a lot in the middle round range

Baun can come in off the edge right away, big fan

Hamler an explosive weapon on O (I compare to Hollywood Brown), can PR and KR too

Hopkins a solid TE...I don't think this class offers any elite TEs, but I like this TE class, could find a lot of solid TEs (Kmet, Hopkins, Bryant, Bryant, Moss, Trautman, Albert O)

Blankenship is maybe my favorite K I've liked coming out

Biadasz I like a lot as well, versatile and ready interior option

Be funny if NE took Fromm...I said years ago that the three I would like in NE to "replace" Brady are Danny Jones, Stidham, and Fromm...Personally think he' s the best fit in this draft for NE, but also really like Stidham...(My other favorit QB options are Hurts and Eason...Bryce Perkins would be fun in August)

I'll be shocked if the Pats get through 3 rounds without grabbing a kicker (probably Blankenship). Let Bailey focus on punting and draft the kid who can put it out of the end zone and bomb 50+ field goals all day long.

Vinatieri - Gostkowski - Blankenship

Smaller torch, perhaps, but an important one.

I would also be unsurprised if they don't draft a QB, or at least, not until the 4th or lower.

Would love Blankenship, but don't see a K going in the Top 100...even 4th round seems a little early, but maybe not

Agreed on QB however, I think they'll definitely add one but not sure where, I don't think BB views it as a pressing need (Also can't get a Burrow obviously)

Personally I expect BB will draft a kicker in round 4 or 5.

I like the value of this mock. But I expect BB to make many more moves that infuriate draftniks rather than please them. Expect a wasted early pick on a short, slow defensive back whom we cut a year and a half from now. Also expect at least a couple of picks traded entirely into the next year's draft. :p

BB needs to really nail this year's draft despite the couple of mistakes he inevitably makes. If he can get 3 impact players in 2020 and a couple of backup quality contributors that will really set up this team well for life without Brady. Without a HOFer at QB, BB has his work cut out for him.

Those are only second-round picks. [They've selected six in the second round, none of whom have done well (and only one, Joejuan Williams, is even on the roster).]

They've done much better in the first and third rounds, with Devin McCourty, Logan Ryan, and Duron Harmon.
