unnecessary

What is necessary is a test that gives a positive within a few minutes. So, players, staff and other necessary employees would test coming in \to the facility and before they leave.

BTW, the test is already available from Abbot.

I think that's a reasonable idea in theory when applied to other contagious diseases, but the reality is that we "won't be safe until we're safe," given how contagious this virus is according to epidemiologists.

In this specific case, that idea doesn't address those who can easily be infected by the people who test "positive" while standing in line as they are "coming in\to the facility" or, who can easily be infected during their time in the stadium, by those who test positive "before they leave" the facility.

I think we have to wait until there is a consensus among public officials and medical experts that it is safe to resume normal patterns of interaction without constant testing, etc. I have no idea when that will be.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing if there wasn’t

I don’t know that I’m ready to see someone new under, or Brady in a bucs jersey. A year off sounds nice

Please explain the danger of playing if every player (and staff member) is tested upon entering the playing facility and test again upon leaving? Does the closeness of contact for those who don't have the virus matter?
Are you serious? So you going to test the ball boys, locker room attendants, media, etc each time? They are in contact with all kinds of people. Is it really that difficult to comprehend? How are you going to isolate? You going to use testing every time someone comes in contact with someone..think the Kevin Bacon game. Also, we're trusting a bunch of twenty year olds to do the right thing? Let's give 500 test kits to each team to make sure we test players, coaches, and anyone who would possibly come in contact with them because there is such a glut in available tests.

Florio was asked today about the possibility of playing games in empty stadiums. He had some interesting takes/ideas:

From @letsgomtnrs: Is there any chance the NFL plays the season in empty stadiums?

Everything is on the table for now; there’s no other way to approach this unprecedented challenge to planning and logistics. Still, the NFL needs to be proactive about identifying every potential “what if?” question and coming up with a plan for every possible permutation.

So, yes, it’s possible that games will be played in empty stadiums. It’s possible that some teams won’t be able to play in their home markets. It’s possible that no games will be played at all.

Theoretically, it’s possible that the NFL will build in the middle of nowhere a corona-free campus where all players, coaches, trainers, doctors, broadcasters, officials, etc. would spend the entire season sequestered from the rest of the world, with games played on a series of fields from which the games would be televised, with no one else present. (I haven’t heard that this is a possibility, but it’s one that the league definitely should be considering.)

For now, it’s too early to know what will happen. But it’s not too early for the NFL to begin identifying clear and firm plans for every potential twist and turn that could play out over the next several months.

A "corona-free" campus for social/financial elites to separate from the masses - how dystopian.

I know. LOL. I am not sure a state in the mid-west would want the entire NFL descending upon it so it can play some football games.

The sports world reaction to this has been something to watch. They really don't get it that the players are at a huge risk to play even without fans present. I get that we think these guys are supermen but they are just as at risk as any of us. I was watching Adam Silver last week and he looked like a truck hit him as he tried to discuss the NBA season resuming. There is no date in sight at this point and not sure there will be one in 2020. Very sad times indeed.

The season must be played in some crippled way.
For the patriots its a bridge year anyway with a tough schedule, so a crippled season would make it tough for everybody else. The year after that we will have some 100m in cap space and a chance to be competitive. If they skip this season, our bridge year will just be postponed...
And of course we maybe won't have to endure Brady in a Bucs jersey.

Selfish, I know...
So you're saying that this entire epidemic is just a scheme by Darth Sidious Belichick to avoid a bad season, buy some time and keep Brady from every playing a single game in anything but a Pats uniform, while avoiding having to give him a multi-year contract? Yeah. Makes sense to me. Just a matter of time before someone posts a pic of BB in that fish market in Wuhan.

For those who are humor-deprived, the above is just a joke, trying to create a light moment in the midst of madness.

What you are saying is that the patriots are not capable of setting up lines at entrances where folks are protected from one another. I disagree.

I hope there is. Even if it means no fans.

My hope is by the Fall/Late Summer (if not much sooner...) there will be tests readily available to the point where the players can be confirmed as being healthy and they can play the game and put it on TV. I know it's not the same, but I'd take it.

Medical reports are coming out that 6 feet is insufficient for social distancing. So this is going to F a lot of sports seasons.

Why should they have to? We're having a hard enough time getting 10 people in line for a supermarket or pharmacy to keep a safe distance from one another. You're somehow envisioning doing that for 50,000?

It's simple. We are either at a point where people can safely congregate or we aren't.

Also, will you monitor tailgating before they even get to the line?

This is wishful thinking, but just not realistic.

I think it’s doubtful but not impossible. There’s not a prescident I can think of

James Harden can still “play” defense though.

No the players aren't at huge risk. The players, if they catch this are at a smaller risk than they are from the flu. It isn't them we should be worried about. People still aren't really getting this. Huge gatherings will be an issue for a while going forward, because it might lead to more outbreaks. Extremely healthy young men have very little chance of having issues with the disease. It is the elderly and people with other conditions who have to worry.

I love football but I cant support any resumption until this is under control.

Have you tried to get into gillette? Peoe would have to start going inside 2 hours before kick off

Florio has gone off the rails here. Such a "campus" is not even remotely plausible. There are over 1,600 players alone. Would they bring practice squad members too? Add in all the coaches and trainers, and we're talking 2,500 people.

How exactly do you feed and shelter 2,500 people? Well, such a thing is certainly possible but now you need hundreds more people to provide those services. Are they all going to be tested and isolated on this little campus too?

This is a league that could not successfully paint the field properly for the Hall of Fame Game a couple years ago. The logistics of a corona-free campus in the middle of nowhere are absolutely mind boggling.

Florio lost his mind months ago. He used to be favorite pundit, and I thought almost all of his ideas were very reasonable and practical. Then he hired Peter King and Chris Simms, and ever sense he's just a propaganda mouthpiece for the league and comes up with the stupidest ideas just for clicks. It's obvious the dolt himself, Peter King, has been a big influence on how to write stupid stuff and get paid more for it.

OK, which sports are affected by the difference, certainly not football.

Agree. If you mean they were all screwed/stopped already so yes more distance doesn't change that fact.
