I know we’ve talked about this ad nauseum but I’m still tripping. I dislike Tom Brady leaving. How are all of you guys dealing?
I ask because I’m not liking this kibble

I don’t think you’re going to find too many who like the move, but in BB we trust.

Seems like all of New England went inside, shut their doors, and haven't come out since.

Honestly I dont think too many people have thrown the proper fit over this.

Blame covid, blame in bill we trust or whatever but this has flew so far under the radar that the Patriots have got off free.

TB gave me far more as a fan than I ever dreamed, so I'm able to find closure. While it'd have been nice for him to end his career in NE, he won't be playing for too much longer anyway, and he'll always be remembered as a Patriot.

This past year I lost my Dad & my amazing cat buddy of 20 years, and I had a long-term, and what I thought was close, friendship come to an ugly end. That kind of put things in perspective for me.

I also find the symmetry unexpectedly reassuring - so many big chapters of my life wrapping up at once, such a strong sense of completion. Time to reboot.

Fitting I follow Supafly Snuka! I am not sure what my opinion means and I think it will be come clear shortly. But I think we would all be ok if he retired, then therewould be none of who is better, Who will do better BS, etc... but that didn't happen. So we get the unstomachable reality of TB in TB...(just puked a little...in my mouth).

With that said the coaching staff was already to move on from Bledsoe for Tommy in camp in 2001, just months after Drew signed the biggest contract in NFL history. BB and co. couldn't figure out how to tell Robert. And fortunately for all of us, except Drew, Mo Lewis showed up to play one night. The rest is history.

But as a member who found this place as a transplanted New Englander living in Virginia after a stint in the Army in 2005, I had no one to talk real football with who wasn't as knowledgeable about the game as I was. (arrogant I know, but damn come on we all know the people that have no clue about football, but think they do, and want to talk about it like an expert, and if your me, you just nod your head say yes etc.. and move on) I needed real football talk and in particular real Pats talk. And thank god for Ian and the internet, I found home.

But I will be damned if you didn't rewind to four years earlier, you would have found me saying all the dumb **** that many people continued to say at least until 2007 if not beyond. Brady is a game manager, can't throw beyond 15 yards (hearing myself type that makes me cringe, just knowing how hard it was in 2001 to hit a 15 yard out consistently when the defense knew it was coming), give Drew a 1200 yard back etc... I was fully cemented in team Drew. I just thought the kid got lucky with Drew's team. As we all know, at least those of us above, say 35? (maybe pushing that) know Drew was a great talent but Tommy didn't throw that ball into double coverage on 2nd and 12, he dumped it off into the flat for a 5 or 6 yard gain. What most of us didn't realize at the time was how genius that was and how that "he can't complete it 15 yards down field" was really "I don't need to complete it 20 yards down field every time, I simply need to move the chains, again and again and again".

My point is no soul on this planet, outside Tommy and maybe ****, nope he knew he'd be good but nobody could predict this in 2001. Could envision this. So I would say based on the reports about Stidham, it sounds a lot like history repeating itself, not in the GOAT sense, but we are in very capable hands trusted by BB & Co. that we heard about TB & Jimmy G.

I am not depressed about that.

(sorry for the diatribe, had a few beers)

Thread could use a different title...

Always viewed depression as something I do not have complete control over as it has biological tenets. Fortunately, when it occurs usually recognize it and figure out how to turn that "dark"corner.

I am not down because Brady left, it was time for him to retire after the last SB win instead he carried on, why?? As much as I love the guy ego's often get in the way of common sense, he did not want to go to OTA's as it interfered with "family time". He could have walked away from the Pats gracefully and with highest honors, instead he is moving on to Florida for a season in the sun uprooting his family. To prove what he can win another SB with another team?? Maybe he can or maybe he cannot we may see if this virus ever subsides...

We have always lived by the mantra that it is better for a player to move on a year early, rather than a year too late.. after last year not sure I have the same level of confidence in #12 than I did previously.

From what I've seen, the whole country locked themselves inside.

Its a matter of not being selfish and letting Brady go to a team with better WRs and TEs. Brady wants to win ring 7, but on the way there he also wants to break some NFL records. Brady has 2 years left in the NFL after he gave the Patriots and the fans 20 years.

I wish Brady nothing but success and I wish the Patriots nothing but success.

It was time for him to go. There are tells no one wants to see. He’s 43 and in decline, though he can still play well at times, and you would have seen an offense worse than last year’s offense anyway. They weren't going to get an all-pro WR and TE to play with him because of the cap. And his decline will only worsen next year and the year after that.

Think positively about the future. I’m excited to see what Stidham can do, even though I know there will be a performance dropoff from Brady. If he can perform comparable to Brady 2001, that's a success.

I am at peace.

After the Garoppolo trade I was shocked. I was shocked that BB got such a poor return for a guy who'd shown himself a potential franchise quarterback. The only way I could understand it is that Belichick expected to move on to Garoppolo and that somehow things changed (Brady took back a decision to retire). That explained (to me) the backwards-and-forwards about Alex Guerrero when Belichick re-asserted his authority. In retrospect, I still think I'm right

Whatever went on behind the scenes (did Belichick try to trade Brady? did the Krafts veto it? did Brady hear about it? -- my guess is that the answer to all three is "yes") they got two Super Bowl appearances and one Lombardi from the following three years. Not bad at all.

So I've no complaints. I wouldn't have complained if they'd transitioned to Garoppolo. I'd have preferred it if Belichick had gone all-in drafting quarterbacks in the last two seasons (Danny Etling? I love him to bits, but ...) and Tom clearly made his decision to go early and should have communicated it earlier (selling the house). Both look to me like bits of ego.

But when the Greatest Coach of All Time comes to part from the Greatest Quarterback of All Time it's not going to be easy.

Now get to work, Belichick, and find us a damn quarterback.

Thanks guys. This beats AA all to hell. I guess I’ve identified the problem. For years there has been a consistent thing I could count on even if everything else in life looked weird or bad, mentally, I had this one thing. Brady leaving had me thinking it was no longer that rock but yet it is still there but with another name. Had this same problem in 01

Never let someone say sports isn't important at a time like this.

But think back to the Matt Cassel season. In retrospect, wasn't that a good one? If there's an NFL season at all and BB is at the helm, I'm going to enjoy it.

Yeah, it is going to be strange to go into an NFL season without a general sense of confidence about 11+ wins, an AFC East title, and 50/50 to get to the AFC championship game. That's what we've gotten used to and it is absurd. I don't think it'll fully register with most of us until the games begin (whenever that is).

There's a lot going on right now that makes life very difficult with any mental health challenge. And there will be a lot of people with mental health challenges that didn't have them before. We do need to be nice to each other, and it is going to get increasingly difficult to do that as the stress mounts over the next few weeks.

I’ve never been able to see it as just sports. Remember 9-11? Ever since then, things changed

We are undergoing a mindset reset.

In 2008 after the shock of Brady’s game 1 injury subsided, “intrigue” took over. Who is Cassell, what’s he got, how will be Bill put him in a position to succeed?

In 2015 “intrigue” took over again (twice) during Brady’s 4 game suspension. Who are these young QBs and how will Bill put them in a position to succeed.

2001 was the same

2020 will be Bill’ 4th opportunity to work his magic and based on track record, the team should alright.

I like intrigue
The 2020 Pats will be full of intrigue.
The same can be said for the 2020 Bucs, a team we will all be paying attention to.
I look forward to this upcoming season more so than any except 2004 & 2007 when BB stacked his team of invincibles

Quite frankly, I expected this and there are other, more important matters I am dealing with.

Net, net. He left. BB didn't want him and I no longer care.

On to 2020.

Forget Brady.

I still ask the question why the Pats let Wes Welka go?
