Twitter temporarily locked the account of The Federalist Wednesday after the conservative opinion site published a piece, written by a dermatologist based in Oregon, that proposed the deliberate spread of the coronavirus in order to boost immunity to the disease.

The op-ed, penned by Dr. Douglas Perednia, proposed an “outside the box” solution to the current pandemic that flies in the face of advice from experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, who are urging social distancing.

Perednia wrote that a “controlled infection” — modeled after the “chickenpox parties” of the last century — is the measure that should be considered.

Does anyone know if there’s certainty regarding immunity/reinfection with Coronavirus? Google didn’t help that much. I saw some blurbs that people are getting it a second time even worse, but I suspect scientists aren’t jumping aboard that one.
This is pretty good. Not straight forward, it gets pretty deep into the RNA testing methodology while also talking about immunity and antibodies.

Shes trash and I dont understand why congress gave her speaker of the house.

Were trying as a party to move into the future not the past.

I wish shed go away, I dont need 80 year olds deciding anything that affects my life.
she got her 25M though for the Kennedy Center..what a disgrace, she's absolutely disgusting

I don't like the censorship, but that article is ****ing ridiculous.

There is so little known about this disease. I used to be on Team "It's Just the Flu", but the more articles I've read from peer reviewed sources, the more I'm leery about this thing. Not that it'll kill me (even if it's definitely more deadly for my over-60 parents), but there are a few studies suggesting the possibility that there will be long-term effects. We simply don't know much about it at this point and safer is better than sorry (not usually an adage I live by).

It's pretty obvious or should be anyway that the true numbers of folks that are infected or have been in the US alone is in the millions. People just chalked it up to a cold or the flu. I know my wife and I were sick for about two weeks with a lot of the same symptoms of the corona virus. We though we had a cold. We may have just had a cold, but that is not what I would put my money on.

Once a test becomes widely available to the public that can tell us if we had it or not, I think folks will find we were way deeper into this than we thought or think now.

yup I said this yesterday. It was said that a birthday party in new town was a super spreader. I’m afraid these spring breakers created something a million (hyperbole obviously) worse

Individual liberty and the public good. We like to think that both are simultaneously attainable but as the virus has made it very clear - there are societal scale problems where we do need to choose a side.

I reacted with sad face, because this is one of those times I recognize the need for a centralized solution. My worry is that, like 9/11, this will be the invitation the government needs to erode even more of the Constitution. I realize that's a 100 yard target, and we've got a 25 yard target called Coronavirus to deal with...but the thought is there in the back of my mind.

She used to be quite the looker.

I can pretty much guess what JFK is thinking right here....

I am also completely annoyed at the war on expertise and intelligence that has been going for years now in the USA. If you think it's all BS and a "democratic attack on Trump" I encourage you to get on a cruise ship, do some traveling and enjoy your life. The sooner we are rid of morons in the USA who think their uneducated opinion is just as valid as the experts, the better off we will be in the long run. Rant off!

I've said the same thing. I live in the DC area, but I was in New York for New Year, and I got the worst flu of my life shortly after getting home. My good friend's sister is a doctor in DC, and saying that the coronavirus positive patients are exhibiting symptoms of flu cases they were treating as early as the New Year. Maybe I got it, maybe I didn't, but it makes one wonder.

Besides, when the Chinese were trying to blame us of spreading it at the Military Games, they essentially admitted they were aware of cases in China going back to November. This problem likely has much deeper claws into us than we think.

I’m wondering if coronavirus cases had been taking place in the US well before the first confirmed cases were noted. My dad had an illness which didn’t seem to be the flu (he got a flu shot) but was not a mere cold where he was miserable and hacking up a lung and bed ridden for like three days. This was back in January.

One of his coworkers also had a similar illness during that time. Makes you wonder.

Thanks. Very interesting.

Poor monkies though.

MA school closures extended through at least May 4, which should not surprise anyone who has been paying attention.

I agree I hate to think about the existence of lab animals, but I can acknowledge the necessity for things of massive importance to our existence in the big picture. Conflicting feelings on it for sure. A buddy of mine designed the fire protection system for a huge animal testing facility in San Diego and the room names all over the CAD files he was using just ****ed with him. This was when he was in school to earn a degree to become a zoologist of all things too...

CT did the same. VA cancelled them for the year. And that's probably going to be the ticket in most places at this point.

Smart thermometer data from Florida show temperatures statewide as abnormally high too. This touches on the subject briefly in the beginning before breaking down the importance of many factors to reduce the load on the healthcare system. This DR is a great teacher.
