Jules wants out?

This is the type of things we see right before someone gets traded.

This is a very cynical response to what was likely intended to be a reassuring post to the patriots fans. It is also not entirely out of the realm of possibility. “Forever Foxboro”, “Forever a patriot”, that type of thing.

I mean sure it could mean he’s staying a Patriot on the other hand Bill could be shopping Him he got wind of it and out this up before he is headed to a new destination to let fans know he is always going to be a Patriot.
Chances are he’s just reassuring fans but this offseason it wouldn’t surprise me if it was more foretelling.

Here’s the thing for me. If Jules stays, he becomes THE face of the New England Patriots. He’s the best known player, and certainly the most fun player. For all this time he’s been in Brady and Gronk’s shadows. He now has a chance to rake in serious endorsements. I think if he’s smart, he sees this “crisis” as an opportunity.

I agree. He can really crank up his star power locally. People already like him a lot but he’s always kind of been Tom’s sidekick. Think he has a big opportunity to grow on all the fans (and even nationally) on his own merits and not just as Tom’s best buddy.

I really hope he does commit and make it happen because I love everything about the guy, I’ve got two Edelman t-shirts already and I’ll get his jersey once the new design’s unveiled if so... (assuming the new design doesn’t suck)

Quick preview of Edelman catching passes in traffic from Stidham...

He'll be gone by the time his contract is up. There is no way he's not going to TB. If I'm Bruce Arians, I'm calling up BB and asking for Edelman.

His game is not going to be anywhere the same without Brady.

He won’t have the same stats, probably, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to stand out.

hmm

It probably does mean that.

Let's play it out. During camp Belichick trades a 2021 #2 to secure our 2020 #2 WR. This is after Belichick drafts a WR in the 3rd or 4th. Would Stidham throwing to double covered Edelman really allow Edelman to stand out?

Edleman stood out as Brady's #1 go to WR, with Gronk and White as targets. Without Brady and Gronk, the world is simply different for Jules. And this analysis fails to consider Edelman's deteriorating body.

There's no point featuring a 30 something slot WR as your primary option coming off of multiple injuries. They've already purged enough of the roster, may as well just go with jet sweep Harry and the new law firm to see what they've got. You're just stalling their development (if any) of the young guys by hanging Edelman out to dry towel boy style. See @KontradictioN post above.

He's better off being a supporting player of a championship team than the star of 6-10.

I have no doubt he would eagerly welcome a trade to TB, but I also believe he will 100% be professional in NE and make the best of things.

Their whole premise seems to be that the Patriots intend to suck, and therefore will give him away. Screw that.
Agreed. The writer thinks he being smart by saying the Bucs should trade a 4th round compensatory pick for Edelman. And I think we should offer a 5th rounder to SF for Kittle.

I mean honestly I could see BB let him go for a fourth and whole board melt down

The Bucs have zero leverage.

Why would the Pats trade away Edelman who with his experience, quickness and footwork is going to become a nice intermediate security blanket for Stidham (or whoever becomes the starter this season) for cents on the dollar ?

They have tons of cap space next year and can easily free some up for this year just by getting Thuney done (or traded).

If I'm Edelman, I'd rather not take a bunch of hits and potential injuries/concussions amid a 90+ reception year just to go 9-7 - or blown out on Wild Card weekend in a best case scenario. That's assuming he doesn't get lit up and hospitalized midway through the season from a poorly thrown/placed ball from Stidham.
