3 (or 4) spots on every roster for qbs. Every additional unknown increases your chances of finding one. Going with players like Hoyer decreases your chances of finding one.

That’s pretty crazy. I remember Brady having a pretty solid mentor in Bledsoe.

You don’t think equipping a Stidham with a mentor who knows the staff and system would serve any benefit to the team over just plugging another rookie behind Stidham on the depth chart who would only take up more of the finite available coaching bandwidth?

Clearly Bill is reading this as a situation to provide a player he sees with ability to succeed, with every tool possible to do so.

Except this is not a lottery where you pick a ball and it is a winner or loser.

It takes resources to develop a QB (e.g. time with your coaches, film review, practice reps...) and those are all things that are limited. The more unknowns at QB you have the more you have to distribute those limited resources among them and the more shallow your evaluation of said players will become which increases the variance. Moreover you also limit their potential growth because of less opportunity to gain experience.

You are looking at this in way too simplistic terms.

Sure. But think about this. You're the New England Patriots. You just lost your QB due to probably not trying hard enough to show him "love". You just lost KVN, Collins a couple of other players. Most teams would be rushing to fill these holes or make an attempt to trade for a WR that Stidham could at least build rapport with. Bill for whatever reason has his sole focus on Special Teams. I could be wrong and maybe there's been other things going on behind the scenes that have not materialized. But aside from Hoyer and the WR that they signed from Arizona's practice squad (or bottom of the roster) its been all players who are pretty good ST talents. All well and good but these are players that you can probably find at the end of training camp. They already have Bolden and Slater as ace special teamers so I'm thinking its overkill.

Vrabel and Rodney also happened to play special teams but sounds like you would have dismissed their signings bc you don't like anyone with versatility to play ST ?

Not at all. I'm just saying as of right now these are special teams guys. Maybe they'll be more but for right now they have only made an impact on special teams

Why entrench yourself in this weird position. Adrian is a former all pro. Coprland put up 5 sacks in a year before. They did a lot than Vrabel did before joining. So who knows. Don't write them off as special teams guys

Not writing them off. Just a little concerned that Bill is targeting people who can play ST. At some point you have to sign a WR. Right? Not a special teams punt returning but an actual body that can line up and catch passes. If there's been one constant over the last 2 decades its that the Patriots are abysmal at evaluating WR talent.
