Elon Musk and his employees produced 1000 ventilators in days. pure awesomeness
There's even a crowdsourcing effort calling on persons with 3D printers to make component parts of ventilators that are in short supply.

Many aspects of the response by the technology sector are uplifting.

And we've really got to thank all the billionaires who have totally come through in the hour of our need just like Ayn would have predicted. #blesstherich

Absolute insanity from Trump. Just when you think he can’t fall any lower this dumb ****er is going to lift the social distancing policy while the crisis is escalating.

Its desperate moments like these where I feel like this dude ought to be expelled from office out of gross negligence. He should not be leading anyone. This will be a disaster. I hope Governor Baker shows some stones and stands firm on the social distancing policies in place.

The posters who continues to deflect the conversation away from COVID and the current administration's handling of it, and instead want to discuss Joe Biden, the Democratic party, and other entirely irrelevant and unrelated political matters, should be locked out of this thread.

Such posts are unrelated to the topic of COVID, and violate the moratorium on political posts in this thread, a guideline that was issued earlier.

It's clear the purpose of those posts, and it's not to further the discussion re: COVID.

the Democratic Party is relevant though with that 1000 page piece pelosi put together

Yes this would be madness

I was told a week ago that thousands of Americans would die in a week. And I can see right through your posts - Republicans are dumb and can't read or understand the models you keep touting. Only you guys know what's going on. Thanks for keeping us informed.

140 people died today - that comes out to 980 this week, if the average doesn't increase (which is very likely will).

Dude, there is literally information at your fingertips that would bury your sarcastic remark about 1,000 deaths in a week before you even pressed post.

At no point did you think, "huh, maybe I should actually look at the data". Because if you had, you would've caught yourself before you made that post and realized, "oh sh*t, we actually are on pace for 1,000 deaths this week".

But nope. You continue to post nonsense with no regard for the truth. Seriously, why should we value anything you have to say on the subject when it's clear that you're not even putting in a minimal amount of effort to research and understand the situation.

Look, I get if someone is misinformed or uninformed, posts questionable stuff, but then takes the time to do some research and better understand the issue. But you're making zero effort to do so. You have posters providing you legitimate info, news organizations providing you legitimate info, and Google at your fingertips with treasure troves of data.

You have no interest in the truth. You have interest in defending the position you assumed a week ago despite all the evidence in the world to the contrary.

I was told that about the number Americans and that number would hit thousands as of yesterday. I'm not downplaying the seriousness of this, btw.

Out of curiosity, how many of you are educated past HS?

Is that supposed to be funny? The people of Appalachia are incredibly poor...tbe same folks your party is supposed to protect.

BTW I'm not from that region.
Are you a nurse?

I'm from Appalachia. Yes, overall it is incredibly poor, largely because its economy has been based on resource extraction, is well past its prime, and leadership there has done everything it can to keep it that way. Big lumber, coal, and gas have kept it poor for decades - all in the cause of conservatism. But there are rich people there like anywhere. Most of the residents have been hornswaggled into thinking that the conservatives care about their values, when all they care about is staying on top of the resource extraction pyramid.

I'm sorry the country's leaders have let you down. The poster was making fun of people from your region as I interpreted it and got a few funny clicks.

To be clear, 140 *Americans* died today. You could've looked that up.

What do you mean "that number would hit thousands as of yesterday"??? You said "thousands in a week", which is what I was replying to. Do you mean last week? Do you mean net total? Do you mean in a single day?

I have a B.S. in Psychology. Not that I think that really matters, but I'll humor you.

And no one said thousands would die last week. Thousands will die per week when it hits critical mass. Tommy just trying to build another straw man to trip over.

Let's come back to this in another 2 weeks, since you feel things are so bad the number of deaths will hit tens of thousands. Deal?

Hopefully the amount of infections will stabilize a bit in the not too distant future. It happened in China, and word of the last two days is that Italy has seen a decrease in number of new cases. It’s an encouraging thought if it holds up. But then again we aren’t a totalitarian country capable of doing what China did and the US has not gone as far as Italy has done.

Fingers crossed about Italy. It’s going to get worse before it gets better here...hopefully it does and sooner rather than later...

We're preparing to enter a phase where we consciously go beyond Italy's level of stupid, on purpose. We're bored of self-preservation and maybe all our stocks will go up if we all go to brick-and-mortar work then go to the beach & maybe take a dip in the pool at the Senate gym.

Anyway... just one note, you're talking about infections (which by the administration's own description, we plan to increase the rate of). The numbers I gave were deaths in the country. By week four, if the rate does not change, deaths will be at 187,500. This has not happened elsewhere, but nowhere else had a president like ours.

This is the most ridiculous post you’ve ever made...and you don’t even understand why.

Not the barbershops

NOTTTT THE BARBERSHOPPPPPPPS

Can you please indicate where I said "tens of thousands"?
Can you please clarify the question I asked you in my previous post?

And why the need to revisit in 2 weeks?

You joked about thousands of people dying in a week because you didn't realize the data for the U.S. currently has us on track to lose ~1,000 people this current week. When confronted with that data, you changed your initial statement, asked to reevaluate in 2 weeks, and put words in my mouth that I never uttered.

I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt early on, but now the kindest way your perspective can be described is one of willful ignorance.

I'm a vet. The gun thing has never bothered me.

Depraved morons who claim the "I have guns" montra have always made me laugh.

You're a joke on multiple levels.

I hate to interrupt politics and debates, but some news on the coronavirus in our household. They gave my son an inhaler prescription. Unfortunately there is no pharmacy with it on hand. He had to go with an expensive newer one that insurance doesn’t cover. They’re underreporting the infections in our area. The doctor I saw said he had more positive results in our area by himself than what’s being reported. Tests are hard to come by and it takes up to a week to get the results. I’m not sure what to make of it all. I guess our public health and healthcare system just aren’t setup for this kind of event. I don’t care what my test results come back as. They only treat the symptoms anyway. I’m staying away from people. I’m on leave from work. My employer is trying to find Tylenol and mucinex for us. It’s sold out everywhere.
