Most of the SARS countries have done much better with the outbreak response. Most of the non-SARS countries have not. Trump has failed but failure has been consistent with basically every western country.

1. Masks and medical supplies need to get done and now.
2. Tests need to get done and now.
3. The entire country needs to be on tight restriction.

This is the problem...they see there other states/countries going to lockdown but wait until it’s a reactive measure rather than a proactive one.

Same thing likely to happen with medical supplies...wait until the hospitals are actually in crisis and bodies are being buried en mass and then ramp up the urgency.

Failure to carry out these three tasks is catastrophic and results in more deaths each minute they’re lagging. Anyone who understands the basics of math and timing gets this. Those downplaying this are either dense or care about the legacy of some ultra rich white guy politicians more than the lives of many people.

Which country’s response falls under that category? Name one.
South Korea for one. Got first case same day that US did.

I'm behind so sorry if already answered.

Also Placido Domingo positive...

Even Fauci says in hard-hit areas, testing of mild cases needs to cease. We have the tests, but we will use up PPE unnecessarily. Testing now is for sicker patients in those areas to guide therapeutics. I suspect that will become a generalized recommendation as case numbers increase. Mild cases are to assume they have the disease and isolate themselves for the 14 days.

You're right - he says that BECAUSE we don't have the supply chains in place and are weeks behind where we should have been.

Because we failed. There is no "contain to hot spots" to be done any longer.

If this ebbs, as expected of pandemics, and we can claw ahead of the curve, you can bet we'll have massive testing in any area of recurrence.

It doesn’t help that masks that usually cost $0.58 now cost $7.00 or more. I believe that’s called price gouging.
That's because States are competing with each other, driving up the price instead of the Feds stepping in and using their vast purchasing power to get this done and distributed to the most needed areas. There is a lack of federal or national planning. Only possible reason for this is to point blame at the states if and when this fails.

He hasn't just failed. Like the sociopath he is, he's trying to take advantage of the crisis.

DOJ Wants to Suspend Constitutional Rights During Coronavirus Emergency

@KontradictioN

The countries that have dealt with SARS have also been more prepared for this because the governments AND citizens know how to take it seriously and combat it. The Western European countries and the US have all been caught off guard and are all getting their asses kicked.

I am tired of hearing about South Korea. Compare populations. Much easier to deal with in a smaller population.

50.5 million people with 1300+/square mile (we have 94/square mile - that's not a typo).

Easier to deal with? With that proximity?

You're tired of hearing about South Korea because the comparison causes cognitive dissonance.

A population of 51M isn’t insignificant. And by all accounts, their response has been efficient and relatively effective. Of course, there are differences between countries, but it shouldn’t discount certain world populations dealing with the virus in better ways than others.

Not only is a population of 51M not insignificant but that population exists in a land area that equates to about 1% of the U.S. Think about 1/6th of our population being crammed into 1/100th of our space and it's reasonable to say what South Korea has done is nothing short of amazing.

Wow, the political forum is back, I use to have so much fun on it. Anyways heres a list of BS Trumpty Dumpty has said since January...

Trump dismisses report on early coronavirus warnings as 'inaccurate'
Jan 20: "I know more about viruses than anyone.”
Jan 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”
Feb 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”
Feb 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”
Feb 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”
Feb 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

Feb 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
Feb 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”
Feb 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”
Feb 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”
Mar 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”
Mar 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”
Mar 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”
Mar 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”
Mar 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”
Mar 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”
Mar 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”
Mar 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it ... Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

Mar 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”
Mar 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”
Mar 9: “This blindsided the world.”
Mar 13: “National emergency, two big words

Who believes this lying loser anymore?
  • TRUMP CORONAVIRUS TIMELINE

January 30: Trump on Coronavirus, “We have it very well under control, and I think it’s going to have a very good ending. So that I can assure you!”

February 2: Trump on Coronavirus, “Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China, but we did shut it down!”

February 10: On Fox News Trump says without evidence that the coronavirus "dies with the hotter weather… You know, a lot of people think that goes away in April with the heat.”

February 24: "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA.”

February 25: Trump falsely claims “You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country. We have very few people with it, and the people that have it are … getting better. They’re ALL getting better!”

February 26: Trump wrongly says the coronavirus "is a flu" and that “whatever happens, we’re totally prepared.”

February 26: Trump baselessly predicts the number of US cases is "going very substantially down" to "close to zero”

February 26: Trump wrongly says the flu death rate is "much higher" than Dr. Sanjay Gupta said. Coronavirus has 10X death rate compared to flu. If 60K die from flu then 600K will die from Coronavirus!

February 27: Trump baselessly said, "It's going to disappear. One day -- it's like a miracle -- it will disappear.”

February 28: Trump said at a rally, Coronavirus is “the new Democratic Hoax.”

March 2: Trump falsely claims “nobody knew of the number of US flu deaths”.

March 2: Trump says a vaccine is coming "relatively soon”. Only Trump did not bother to mention that CDC had told him earlier that day that a vaccine was a year to a year and a half away.

March 4: Trump said he believes people infected with the novel coronavirus may get better "by sitting around and even going to work."

March 5: Trump wrongly claims the virus only hit the US "three weeks ago”. Trump was informed of a confirmed case on January 21(6 weeks prior).

March 5: World Health Organization (WHO), based on data collected around the world, stated the global mortality rate for coronavirus at 3.4%. Trump says: “I think the 3.4 % is really a false number, this is just my ‘Hunch’!”

March 6: As the number of cases and deaths in Italy rises, Trump says “I hear the numbers getting much better in Italy.”

March 6: Trump tells cameras, “Anybody who wants a test can get one.” VP Pence said the day prior that Americans could not get tested simply because they wanted to get tested. "You may not get a test unless a doctor or public health official prescribes a test."

March 6: Trump muses that "maybe the coronavirus improved US jobs numbers.”

March 6: "I like the numbers being where they are. I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship," Trump said of passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship.

March 7: Trump said that doctors he's come across as the administration tries to get a handle on the outbreak have been surprised about how much he knows about COVID-19. "Maybe I have a natural ability," he said. "Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president."

March 11: Trump’s Address from Oval Office wrongly states Insurance companies will pay for patients Coronavirus treatment. Next day Insurance Coalition corrected Trump and said they will pay ONLY for Co-payments, NOT treatment.

March 13: Trump declares National Emergency. “As you know Europe was just designated as the hot spot right now, and we closed that border a while ago so that was lucky or through talent or through luck… call it whatever you want.” The travel ban had not even been implemented, scheduled to start that night.

March 13: Asked why his Admin previously disbanded the national pandemic office which would have significantly prepared the United States, “When you say me, I didn’t do it. We have a group of people… You say we did that, but I don’t know anything about it.” This, after Trump’s presser from Feb. 26 where it was previously brought up and discussed with Trump.

March 13: Backpedaling about whether or not he should get tested and self-isolate for Coronavirus after being in direct contact with those carrying the virus, “I asked them that same question, and they said, ‘You don’t have any symptoms whatsoever.’” You don’t have to be showing symptoms to already have the Coronavirus.

March 13: Trump interacted with several top administration officials and business leaders during the address, shaking hands and patting them.

And this doesn't include all the BS he spread over the past week

NY now has half the reported cases in the US,15k out of 30K. No one should be allowed to leave that state, especially NYC. Closing businesses is not enough if infected people are allowed to drive out of the city freely and infect people in other states.

RE: production of ventilators.

These are the challenges of dramatically increasing production:
  • Skilled labor to assemble and test
  • Impact of Covid19 on the global supply chain. The device manufacturer I work for uses JIT inventory, 1 supplier impacts the line. There no inventory to exhaust.
  • Getting a new supplier on the approved list takes time, effort and potentially on site visits
  • A new supplier may require new tooling which takes time
  • A new contract manufacturer takes time to get up to speed
The global supply chain is probably the biggest hurdle to overcome. I'm not sure what the invocation of this law would mean to that. It's not like this turns the key and everything is just being churned out. I'm afraid it will take time on the scale of months to get up to volume.
Nice to hear honest answers instead of the same old platitudes. Thanks

Has anyone noticed how nobody wants to answer specific questions about "when", "how many", "where"?

It's basically taking over factories and ordering them to mass produce items needed to safeguard national security, in a time of dire emergency.

The masks the surgeon general says aren’t effective?

You literally cannot find a worse crisis in American history than this one,

Totally irrational. The Spanish flu for instance killed completely healthy people all the time, and it happened DURING WW1.

Too late to prevent the spread now. That would have helped weeks ago.

NY is just reporting higher numbers because they're ahead of most with testing.

Plus I'm sure most of of that is around NYC. So locking down northern NY is sort of foolish if NJ n Conn aren't locked down as well.

Most of the country will have similar %s in a week or two imo. Or whenever they begin testing widely.

I doubt most of the country will be close..there will be pockets in some cities.

If so, that'll likely be because the cities do the testing while rural areas do not.

If only we had someone who's job it was to deal with pandemics...

Trump Proposes Deep Cuts In Detecting Disease Outbreaks Worldwide

Oh, right, we cut the department and fired him. :/

So we saved 120 million per year to spend trillions before this is done but it was an outdated system inherited :/

I don't know how anyone can defend this. This group was created after the last Ebola breakout. We had the structures in place to plan and at a minimum, provide command and control over this and we cut them to save 120 million. :/

To put that 120 million into perspective. It's estimated that 133 million has been spent on Trump golfing.

Why don’t we blow up all the bridges and just let NYC fend for itself.
