Should we trade Gilmore

Unless someone is giving the Pats a top 5 pick for him there is no way in hell they trade Gilmore.

Trade Gilmore for as much 2021 draft ammo as possible... Dump everyone, tank for Trevor... Next year's schedule is ridiculous, complete with a bunch of West coast games... Might as well take the 4-12

I’ll never understand how fans don’t understand that teams never try to tank. That’s a fan made phenomenon. Look at the Dolphins last year, fans were rooting for “Tank for Tua”, that didn’t happen, I think they won 4 of their last 5. They still may may get him, but they wanted to win.

Remember Bledsoe’s first year, they were 1-11, and finished 5-11. No team/organization TRIES to tank.

I entertained that idea before knowing Brady was gone, but definitely not now. No way especially with the defense being gutted at the moment. You don’t give up a DPOY for even a mid 1st + other decent picks. No thanks.

Were you not around when Indianapolis blatantly tanked and was on the verge of throwing games to get Luck?

By tanking, BB would lose a little respect to me. Hes GOAT coach. I want him to prove it by showing us how he deals with this. Im not expecting SB or afccg, but can he bring us a 9 win team? If not, thats okay but it might add to the Brady was the dynasty narrative.

tanking would taint his legacy big time. He cares about his place in football history. It won’t happen.

Nah the Colts were just terrible with a subpar head coach.

Garoppolo wasn’t a sure product. He had two and a half good games in NE. Gilmore is DPOY. We also got a first out of Brandin Cooks so....

Cant see it. Gilmore is 30 soon. Cant see teams eager to pay that kind of price. Teams are also not inclined to do anything to help the Pats reload. Pats were lucky to get a conditional first for even Drew Bledsoe.
I think a lot of us overvalue how other teams see our players... the Garoppolo and Mallett examples above.

That thread is a disaster so I deleted it. Let's just start fresh.

Also no - definitely do not trade Gilmore, that's dumb. Only way that makes sense is if they were going for a full-on tank job but I can't believe Bill would ever do that. Otherwise, Gilmore is probably the single most important player on the roster.

You absolutely trade Gilmore. By the time this team is competitive again, he will be well past his prime. Our rebuild happens quicker with maximum draft capital. He turns 30 this year. Trade him while he still has value. I'd also trade Thuney and Edelman asap. Edelman because he's on the downside of his career, and Thuney because he's not worth what he's going to get paid.

Trade the defensive player of the year, how about no.

Why not? Turning 30 this year, and the Pats have to rebuild. Trading him, if the compensation is decent, seems like the best thing to do. By the time this team is competitive in the playoffs again, he will be well past his prime.

People finally see the light I’ve been trying to shine

How did that work out for them? They got him but definitely wasn't worth tanking the entire season for.

it would be a hard no if Gilmore was covering up a patchwork secondary, but even without him, we would have a top 5 secondary. Even if they traded him, you still march out

Jon Jones
Jason McCourty
JC Jackson
JJ Williams

It would fully depend on what you could get, but the needs at other positions are far greater than they are at cornerback now.

Let's see how season goes. Get to week 6 and if playoff not happening see what you can get. I'm not in favour of giving up on season from the start

As the post suggests?
Load up with youth and cap.

Depends on what is offered. Gimore has 2-3 all pro caliber years left. It is possible the rebuild may be over in that time. Unlikely but possible. I would say this is a question more for next year. Also depends what is offered.

Not that I trust the league would reflect this value in a trade or contract, but it's becoming increasingly evident how much more valuable a CB like Gilmore is than someone like Aaron Donald. Generational secondary play ripples across the defense in today's NFL so much more than front-seven it seems.

What I'm getting at, is a ****load could be offered for Gilmore. It'd be interesting to have a crystal ball and see the timeline where he was on the trading block this offseason.

Already down Brady and Gronk. Maybe they could keep the last Hall of Fame caliber player?

I’d see how the Pats do next year before pulling the trigger on Gilmore.

Maybe, but the Colts sure looked like they tanked for Luck. Lol

That's a potentially really good secondary, but I don't know if I believe it's top 5 without Gilmore on it.
