Is there anyway we could sign Newton?

If he's healthy somehow then I'd file him under "sure why not."
They don’t have any money to spend, and there are obvious holes at most positions aside from the secondary. They’re probably either going to roll with Stidham or draft a QB. Maybe even both.

I'm not opposed.

Cam is damaged goods. I don't know how he would fit in and play in cold weather after being used to Carolina. But a 1 year deal would hardly be disastrous. We don't have a lot of cap room after franchising Thuney though.

I'm usually not the type to make these threads and honestly I'm not very cap space smart so I was curious. Is there any potential way we could sign Newton with our cap space? Reason I ask is because I honestly wouldn't be against Newton as QB in 2020.

My reason: Cam can be a good 1 year signing if BB doesn't think Stidham is ready. Now, I'm not claiming to know what Bill is thinking. I also am not suggesting Cam is our future. I just think its possible, Cam might take a one year prove it deal and Stidham can learn on the bench for one more season.

Opinions? Also, is it possible with cap?

I'm curious if Cam would take a prove it deal.

I assume Cam realizes where he's at. If Stidham isn't ready, sitting him one more season will benefit him. If not Cam, whos left for cheap?

Pass. Cam is cheeks now and I’d rather keep Stidham on a cheap deal to add other pieces.

I think that it is Cam, Dalton or Winston

That strange. I don't recall a single time reading or hearing tom say wanted to stay with the patriots, or come back to the patriots. Not once.

Last offseason he made INTENTIONAL moves to make sure he was a free agent after this last season.

He spent the entire season throwing the rest of the offense under the bus, After a win he COMPLAINED about he didn't have any weapons. AFTER A ****ING WIN.

Brady was gone, he decided he was gone the year before his last season here. the dude was checked out, and his play showed it.

Look at the two guys this offseason that took different approaches

Brees and Brady

Brees on NUMEROUS occasions was see talking about how he wanted to be a saint, and had no interest in leaving.

Brady? Crickets.

You can disagree if you want, and I'll be here waiting for you to provide a sound clip where he says he wants to be a patriot. I know we have sound bites saying kraft wants him back

I'm interested in Belichick's behavior because it gives us a strong indication how he feels about the QB situation without Brady.

It is fair to say Belichick made very little effort to get Brady back. I think if he agreed with the overwhelming consensus--that we're screwed without Brady, and are now just any other team--he would have acted differently.

This may not be too different from the Chiefs two years back, when they shipped Alex Smith out to make way for Mahomes. Smith is no Brady, and Stidham is probably no Mahomes, but still.

They made almost no effort to keep him. Belichick must be confident in Stidham. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats do no more than acquire a depth guy at the QB position.

It's rather interesting to see a website that has tracked the GOAT coach for 20 years speculating that BB has not thought the QB position and has zero plan.

The only other time this happened was spring 2010 when he got plastered for zero plan at TE.

Cam is not a free agent and his salary cap hit would be around 19 million . Not going to happen plus he is injured and not worth that kid of money

I'm sure it is possible in some weird theoretical sense, but why?

extend Thuney, lower his cap to 7
Trade Edelman and White saves 10.5
release Ghost saves 3.5

Trade a 6th for Cam, take on 18mil cap hit

With workouts cut down this spring/summer, I think you are setting a young QB up to fail. I would rather let Cam take some hits and see if he still has the physical skills to win games. Its a no loss situation.

The Pats (or whoever Newton's future team is) will get him for a lot cheaper than his current cap hit. Carolina is having trouble finding a trade and is most likely going to release him.

As in the past, and as has happened many times, Pats will bring in a player to do a physical on him, not to sign him, but to know what's going on- it's spying out in the open.

Pats have no intention of signing Cam, but he will sign with a dumb team and he will start, and if it's a team that's playing the Pats, they will know quite a bit about his health and what he's dealing with.

For some reason Vinny Testaverde pops into my head when I think of Cam. Big arm, kind of a knucklehead, but late in his career, he became more disciplined and he did alright for the Jets.

I can see Belichick/McDaniels having that kind of influence on Cam maybe. You need someone to go with Harry on the outside though.

Is there any way? Yes

is there any reason? No
