Just heard Iran is estimating over a million deaths by end of May.
Did the mass graves in Iran discovered a few days ago in satellite photos get covered in this thread?

Regards,
Chris

Good to see tests are just starting to ramp up. They need to increase to 20,000 tests per day if we pretend to catch up.

See below 2 charts on cases in So Korea vs US. US cases will continue to increase exponentially once test results increase. There seems to be a 30 day lag in the curves but even more given lack of tests here.

Any drive through testing in NE yet?

I know Jersey has 2 in the works. One up North opens Friday. Another in Central Jersey a few days later.

Numbers are going to skyrocket.

Iran building burial pits for coronavirus victims, satellite images show - CNN

Iran indicated a very high infection rate, but very few deaths. Turns out they weren't quite forthcoming as the satellite photos showed. This was Malcolm Gladwell's "Oh ****! We're effed." moment he said in a podcast recently.

Chris
Is China THAT involved with Iran. Atomic energy, bombs, power plants, military, dams, refining? Why is Iran so affected? I think we know why Italy is.

What's your assumption about Italy?

Tourism. I was just there. Huge Bus loads of Chinese tourists. Moving our manufacturing to China has created a "middle class" that has money to travel. Italy attracts the MOST tourist in the WORLD.

It's really refreshing to talk with someone who doesn't immediately go to absurd extremes. Thanks man.
You guys were really concerned about interracial violence from calling this thing Chinese. So if that’s an “absurd extreme” I don’t bring it up. Now when I bring up the statistics on violence (yes murder and rape) you don’t care. Is violence a problem or not a problem? What do the statistics say? Why haven’t you ever cared about violence victims before this week?

Almost like the whole thing was phony and you guys never cared. But I’m sure nobody can see through that.

Anyone feeling any symptoms yet? I’ve been run down for about 2 weeks now with a variety of symptoms, but I don’t have a cough or a fever. It still sucks to be sick at a time like this, and now of course I’m a bit paranoid about it too.

From what I’ve seen here in PA, most of the the tests are coming back negative, so there’s obviously something else going around as well. Either way, I’ll be self-quarantined for awhile.

I'm not one of the 'you guys'.

I actually don't think saying Chinese Coronavirus is meant to stoke nationalism or racism and never said that.

What I think it is is a transparent attempt by President TakeNoResponsibility to shift the discussion from his galling lack of action and near criminal hoax deflection to blaming the Chinese.

The Chinese deserve tons of blame for their inaction. So does Trump. It's not an either/or for me because I don't think party first.

Not sure if the math on this is accurate, but if it is it's a nice visual representation:

I’d love to go sometime. Leonardo DiCaprio is awesome.

I read an article a couple of days ago that focused on the degree of intergenerational family contact in Italy, which is (according to the article) nearly 3X most other countries. Family contact is a major driver of infection, and when older folks are in contact with younger folks a lot more often, more serious cases and death develops.

This is the opposite of China, where as soon as you show a fever, you are removed from contact with anyone, including family. That's one of the reasons why there has beens such a drop in cases there in the past week.

Its an infographic. It has to be accurate. How could you possibly question that?

Largely agree, although I think Trump uses code words to keep his base energized, like consistently using the term "nasty" when labeling women, particularly women of color. He assigns labels to deflect the attention from him and his administration. And it works.

This pandemic can be considered a practice round, a pre-season game for a much more serious disease that is inevitable in the future. POTUS job right now includes "Learner in Chief" - guiding the country through a careful analysis of what we've done and the results from doing that. This calls for weekly fireside chats (or perhaps even more frequent) where he leads a team of professionals to reflect on what's happened and talk about how we can do it better in the future, as government, communities, and individual citizens. This is about helping us prep for the next 20 years. That's a large component of the definition of what leadership is in these circumstances.
