Harmon Traded to Lions

Tough to tank with a top 10 OL, the best secondary in the NFL & Belichick as coach.

The tank comments are absurd unless you moved on from Gilmore. Even then a BB man defense with Jackson, McCourty & Jones isn’t bad enough to get the #1 pick
Their remaining CBs behind Gilmore are still pretty good, but Gilmore is too valuable to trade even if he may sell high right now as DPOY. Leadership, lockdown corner ability, reasonable contract in relation to skill. I also don't believe it makes sense from a cap standpoint as (IIRC) the dead money generated means cap relief is a bit moot - you'd mostly just get a pick return. Would rather have him on the team than even a mid-first.

Do you trade McCourty then
Depends on how BB and coaches feel about the depth chart, but I'd be inclined to.

A lot of vet talent is going to hit the wires at 4pm so there's probably no market right now.

Hate this. Chung already needed to be replaced and now that replacement needs to be replaced. If we got something good for him it would be okay but we basically gave him away for free.

It doesn't sink the season or ruin the long term prospects of the team but it's a step in the wrong direction.

All it takes is a couple of “IR” trips to allow the tank. Plus that Indy team was pretty darn good and without Gomer they tanked. If Stid isn’t the answer, full speed to the bottom.

This is a QB driven league. A Colts like Gomer to Luck scenario is a nightmare for the league. Maybe Stid is already Luck but who knows.

charges dropped.

side note: I hate this time of year, roster building. We can't see the forest for the trees or whatever the hell the cliche is. Dumping guys, no cap. I know, in the end, it'll be fine, but Cheezus.

Brady
Harmon
Collins
KVN
Karras
Shelton

The forest is burning down.

If it was a fire sale rebuild they would have kept Harmon and let McCourty walk. It was a salary dump, but with a player whose cap hit was modest and who serves an important role (though key word on role, you're right). The only thing I can guess is that they think someone like Williams or Melifonwu or Brooks is ready to take that role. Maybe they're right, we'll see, but Harmon's a good player and the Lions got him for nothing.

A much more measured and less hysterical version of my take.

Not the same player as Chung

Our secondary is the strength of this team. Wouldn't start worrying because we lose Harmon.
I like that we kept Thuney. Have to now work on DL and Tight End and possibly the qb position ;)

Maybe Bill figures next season will be cancelled and is starting the rebuild now. In which case he’d be doing something right.

Patsfans posters BEFORE Brady announces that he is leaving: “The Pats should consider trading Harmon, to gain some cap space. They have DB depth and others can recreate most of his production for less money”.

Patsfans posters AFTER Brady announces that he is leaving: “WTF! How can they trade Harmon!! I guess Bill really is throwing in the towel on the 2020 season. All hope is lost.” (poster promptly head over to one of the “Time to Tank” threads).

Please stop taking those stupid pills.

Yeah because it was definitely the same exact people making both of those posts.

As to the return besides cap space, it may not just be a ham sandwich 7th round position swap. Let's keep in mind Rapoport has been right about a player getting traded and wrong about the compensation before.

Now we get rid of HT, Burkhead, Sanu and Chung. Tear down, start over.
