The Tom Brady rumor thread

Brady missed a boat load of practice to the point where Bill mentioned it and praised Stidham for all the work he got in. I think that is probably the issue for Bill. Brady just can't carry the workload like he used to and the injuries especially to his elbow did effect his game.

When you skip OTA’s for the Cannes Film festival you know this is not the Brady of old.

I believe Brady’s priorities have changed because of his wife/family. He also was not the outstanding teammate he was in the past.

I know he was pissed about losing AB, but he never threw younger players under the bus in the past.

I don’t blame Belichick for not paying him for past performance.

If he wants to return to New England, it will have to be another team friendly deal.

I agree. I am the biggest Brady fan but last year he was disappointing. From missing OTAs again to his pouting after the games after we won to throwing the young receivers under the bus. I have never been so disappointed in him to be honest. I know it was frustrating to play in such a limited offense but we had a great defense and punter and he just never could seem to get it together mentally. I still can't believe that defense was wasted in some ways but I for sure don't blame Bill for wanting to either do a 1 year deal or move on. I still want Brady back as I think he gives us the best chance to win this year but if he wants more than than that then it is probably time to part ways.

Yeah.... this untrained fan didn’t really notice any difference in Brady last year except for his nagging injuries. Maybe that’s exactly his concern. BB knows how many injuries Brady had over his career and will know exactly how 2019 compared with the past. And he knows injuries are usually what takes out QBs. Manning was still Manning until his neck became unrepairable. Favre led the Vikings to the NFC title game in 2009 with one of his best seasons, and then had nagging injuries in early 2010 which caused him to be done.

Injuries are what end careers, not loss of competence. At 43, injuries during the season become cumulative and debilitating. That's the unacceptable risk with Brady. Bill is right -- Brady's contract needs to be year to year with performance accelerators, and and even with that the likelihood of losing him to injury is still very high.

You are not the biggest Brady fan then :D

Exactly. Bill pretty much nailed things with Brady. For sure a team like Tampa could over pay for him but the real contenders that Brady wanted to play for - the niners, the titans passed.

Doesn’t mean Bill nailed it at all. It only takes 1 team to make him a big offer. If Bucs, Chargers, or Raiders offer him $60m for 2 and the Pats offer 1 for less then he made last year then no blame can fall on Brady for leaving.

And also the NFL is fluid. Every year teams rise and teams fall. The Pats and a few others have been consistently good, but the Bucs have a pretty good roster that was done in by a QB who threw 30 INTs. The Chargers are a year removed from being a 12 win team and have some great talent and the Raiders are up and coming.

I hope to hell he returns but it doesn’t seem Bill feels that way.

I could care less where Brady goes if he leaves NE. Just as long as he stays the hell out of our way.
He would. This team wouldn’t be anywhere near being on a collision course with his chosen team. We just don’t have the horses in the stable without him.

If Brady goes to Tampa or Oakland, no one will convince me there is goodwill between him and Belichick. I could understand going to San Francisco or Tennessee, but Tampa has spite move written all over it. They may have some good playmakers and a decent roster, but that organization is bottom barrel. They’ve made the postseason twice since 2002. Can you imagine him in that super lame Bucs uniform?

LMAO. We were 5-11 in 2000 and 0-2 before he took over in 2001. We were a podunk team before Brady arrived and now all of a sudden now that it looks like he's no longer going to play of us he's got to stay the hell out of our way.

That's rich.

the Pats won’t need Brady to stay out of their way since they won’t be competitive without him. At least, not during Brady’s remaining years

Though I agree not having Brady makes the path more difficult, I’m not ready to concede that our season is doomed this early into the offseason. Pretty sure you aren’t either. :D

How’s it rich? Do you understand what I’m saying? Let me say it again. I don’t care where Brady goes. When he’s no longer a Patriot, he’s no longer a Patriot. All I care about if he leaves, is that he stays out of our way from competing. Ya know, doesn’t go to a division rival, doesn’t go to a team challenging us for a playoff spot. That’s not disrespectful to Brady, quite the opposite actually. Unless of course you are saying that this team is gonna go to the gutter without Brady. If that’s your stance, not sure what to tell ya.

I wouldn't call Bucs a "spite move" if they offer him 3 years / 90m and the Pats best offer was 1/20m or whatever.

Doomed? No. They could still have a successful year but the bar would need to be lowered. BB is a sub .500 HC without Tom Brady. So a successful year would maybe be making the playoffs as a wild card or finishing 9-7. Expecting them to still be in competition for a Super Bowl really does a disservice to how hard a Super Bowl is to actually win.
