But they aren't. Biden proposed a freeze on only cost of living adjustment, not cutting SS.
@maust1013 - there is messaging that Biden wanted to cut SS when he clearly didn't. He proposed freezing cost of living adjustments for one year to help offset the budget deficit. People would have gotten their money, just not an increase over the previous year.

Are you saying the Feds are going to trump the state rights and call some type of Marshall law?

I don't believe it. I believe individual states will probably impose local lockdowns, unless you're specifically talking about Illinois.
Do you mean martial law? Don't know who the Marshall dude might be...

They are also testing 10k people a day and have uniform measures in place. We aren't doing that because our leadership is incompetent

We'll get there...it flattened out for every country except Italy and Iran. It will happen here too.

Just paid our season ticket invoice. They better not mess with the NFL season too. I'm not really into hockey, basketball or baseball as much anymore...

That's doublespeak, a COLA freeze is effectively a cut. Unless you believe there will be zero inflation in which case a freeze would be pointless as there would be no offset, which brings us back to the aforementioned doublespeak.

In this country, perhaps yes, but the concept that government is inherently incapable of serving its people in a robust, efficient manner, is not true. You need not look any further than governments who have responded to COVID in a meaningful, productive manner.

See: Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea.
Look at a map of incoming international flights of the U.S. on any given day along with additional connecting flights that massively mix up the germ pool among so many people every single day from coast to coast. We are like a food processor on high. Now compare the above countries and it is laughable to compare.

The common perception when politicians speak of cutting Medicare is complete defunding of the program, which Biden's freeze proposal was not. The argument that is being made that he wanted to strip people of their benefits is disingenuous. And the statement in Bernie's ads that Biden has "advocated cutting Social Security for 40 years" is patently false.

You don't understand exponential rate yet but I fear that you soon will. Remember how you said " only 50 deaths" a day ago?

Again. I really hope you're right.

737 new cases in one day.

It is going to get worse and we’ll see an increased rate of new cases and deaths before it starts getting better. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

That’s why everyone, without exception has a responsibility to follow federal & state guidelines.

If you don’t pray, pray anyway. If you feel angry, lonely or sad, pray very hard. I’m praying everyday for my family & all of humanity.

If you’re atheist, ask the power of the universe for help. Call a friend or family member to check up on them. Make sure you get outside, exercise & eat healthy. These things help the mind, body and spirit.

Our immune systems don’t work well when we’re unhealthy.

Lastly, no one has a right to be angry. Those who are angry will get sicker easier. Stress & anger beat the crap out of our bodies, so let it go.

That's the equivalent of a cut because there's no such thing as zero inflation in a free market.

The curve will get flattened over time due to measures by the government and individual citizens. In South Korea and China the curves have already flattened out. South Korea had 70 or so deaths but they were able to work quickly to stop the progress of the virus. It can work in the US too, but given the size of the US population the number of deaths will be more than South Korea. And the overwhelming number of US cases are considered mild.

Look at the test rate differences between South Korea and the US. We're lagging way behind.

so far only 70 dead after the first case on January 20.

I hope you pay attention and reconsider your reasons for your current position should those numbers of deaths you keep pointing out start sadly rising exponentially as they are almost certainly going to do.

It is not patently false, but it was a distortion of the truth. Biden did try several times to cut SS, Medicare, etc in the '90s. However his statement in 2018 was taken out of context (Biden was mocking Paul Ryan), so that was a bad move by the Sanders campaign.

Ummm... I am not espousing your purportedly 'common perception' or making a benefit stripping argument at all, nor was I pimping Bernie. All I was doing was pointing out what to me seems fairly obvious, a COLA freeze would be a de facto benefit cut. I am perfectly willing to engage in discussion as to how my perception is wrong but please spare us all the straw man arguments. While I do appreciate you not just hitting me with an unsupportable and gutless red 'X ' you aren't in any way addressing the quite simple point I was making.

The natural rise in cases, combined with the tests suddenly becoming widely available is going to give the impression of a tsunami suddenly hitting us. People are going to think the virus is spreading much faster than it really is and it's their collective responses that's going to govern what happens next. Hopefully the panic can be mitigated.

Hopefully we've done enough with the lockdowns to avoid what happened to Italy, but not all states have followed suit.

We'll see next week what the extent of the damage is, when our 10 day buffer is gone.

Trying to figure the next step here. We're dealing with at least two emergencies. The virus, and now our economy.

If things level off (market wise) today or tomorrow, I think we're good economically. But if things continue to plummet (down 2k points currently), does anyone think the folks that fund politics are gonna seek a change?

I mean if they're losing Billions... could you see a meeting with Pence and the Cabinet? Even this week?

Try to sure up national confidence and stop the economic bleeding.

I'm in the U.S. I cancelled a trip home at the weekend. I could say a lot but it would be political and, well ... if you've nothing good to say, say nothing.

Stay safe, everybody.
UK could face huge problems also due to lack of ventilators...
Stay safe my friend
