I find it somewhat amusing that the folks on the other side of the aisle that claimed this virus to be a hoax, exaggerated, overblown, etc. are the ones self-quarantining. I think every single one is a Republican.

If you allow Americans to return from China but don't let Chinese nationals come in then it's xenophobic. They each have the same chance of carrying the virus.

My prediction is this will lead to lockdown in US. Nobody will be allowed outside. I feel its slowly inching towards it.

I know this is hard for some of you to believe, but not all of us just immediately fall in line and start worshiping the leaders nominated by the party which most-closely aligns to our principles because the TV people on our echo chamber say to do so.

If you're going to impose a travel ban to prevent the virus from getting in, and you allow some people in, then it's not going to be a very effective ban.

That’s weak sauce. Americans have a right to be here, Chinese nationals don’t. There’s nothing xenophobic in saying “we will let our own citizens return home but no others will be allowed”.

But please go ahead... keep calling Trump a racist when he tried to enact some common sense border security.

The Americans live here. Cripes is it xenophobic that I don’t allow people that don’t live in my house at the dinner table? You don’t allow people from an infected country in, and you quarantine citizens returning. That’s just basic common sense.

But I guess people have to die now so nobody calls us xenophobes and we melt from being called a name.

Yes because if an epidemic is isolated to the Arabian peninsula, you obviously rush out to order test kits in the US. Unlike this newer virus that has spread to over 110 countries in a few months. Both of those are equal events. Come on Bobsyourdumbuncle get with it.

It could be xenophobia or it could be totally failed crisis management. The administration blocked non-U.S. citizens from entering the US if they had visited China within 14 days yet placed no restrictions on travelers from South Korea and Italy. Wildly inconsistent.

And this latest travel ban makes no sense either. Ban all of Europe except the UK? Another half-baked idea.

Non of those were isolated. They all had cases in the United States and the CDC has to rush to find ways to test people. The CDC doesn’t just say “ah well most cases are somewhere else so no need to test anyone here.” The whole way they know how the disease is spreading is by testing people with symptoms.

You are ill informed. The ME virus is largely confined to the arabian peninsula, as was ebola, and zika to their regions. None of those became pandemics. They were regional epidemics. Were there a few cases outside the region, sure, but they didn't spread like this is spreading.

Saying that this coronavirus-19 is the same as those other viruses is like saying its just like the flu.

You guys have to decide which hill you want to die on. You are losing your minds trying to defend all this.

You say: "Trump had a travel ban to contain the virus. It wasn't racist"

I say: "The virus isn't contained if he's letting people in"

You say: "What we can't let our own citizens in? What are you anti-American?" You immediately contradict your first sentence!

This is an insane discussion. Either you have a ban or you don't. The virus doesn't discriminate. If you're going to quarantine American citizens then quarantine foreign nationals and see if they still want to come here.

Personally I didn't care if it was xenophobic or not and didn't get hung up on it at all when it happened. In the list of racist things Trump has done, a travel ban from China is like 45th on the list. Who cares. Also it was clear a travel ban wasn't gonna work at all since the virus had already spread globally at that point. And any time it bought us (lol) was squandered given the fact that we have next to no testing capacity at this point and we're all going on lockdown in two weeks regardless.

I'm not offended by the travel ban nearly as much as I'm offended by the logic you people are putting forth.
