The Tom Brady rumor thread

Brady should have foreseen that Sanu would get injured returning punts? Seems like a "Brady the coach is killing Brady the GM" sort of take.
No. But Sanu ain’t Sanders. You disagree with that?

Tom Brady lists his two demands for free agent suitors,

Brady's two "demands" is that he have control over the roster and wants to be part of the decision making on play calling.

The play calling thing is sort of ridiculous. He has control at the line of scrimmage, and the relationship with with his OCs has always been excellent. I'm sure Josh and BB would be willing to work with him on game preparation and play calling if there is another way he'd like to have more influence.

"Control of the roster" is where I get the hives. Hmm...if he's such a hotshot at building rosters, maybe Brady should retire and become a GM. That isn't gonna happen here, nor would we want such a thing. Roster control involves so many things - cap space, free agency, draft picks, injuries, performance, incentives, etc. I doubt Brady has the time for that as the QB of the NEP.

Brady sounds like someone who is ready to retire and move on to the C-Suite.

I'm doubtful that Mike Mayock is ready to relinquish control of the roster to Brady in Las Vegas.
The odds of this being credible are low anyway. This is put out just for clicks. It sounds plausible, but also impossible to disprove aside from Brady retweeting the story with a "Fake news" comment.

Fantastic job with the 1 brady thread Guys. :) Keep up the good work if you can plz TIA

I wanted to add a theory I have been thinking about...

What *if* BB and Brady already have a deal in place, but purposely allow Brady to hit FA as Brady is the first domino that must fall before many other deals are done and until Brady makes his decision....the Patriots could take advantage and strike deals with Hunter Henry, Emmanuel Sanders, Nelson Agholor, 1-2 offensive linemen, and etc... then resign Brady.

That would be too good to be true... but I like it

Brady will absolutely be returning to NE. I can feel it in my lungs.

Now excuse me while I take a sip of this delicious Corona beer to ease this random cough.

Will Tommy scout college players, work them out, try out FAs, read Salary Cap for Dummies.......once he has roster say.....
.....or simply defer to Super G’s yogi and herbalist who has the answers to all of life’s questions?
Maybe Don Yee has bided his time long enough and is finally making a play to be the ROC Nation of the NFL...#BradyFigurehead

I’ll ask straight away, then - do you think Sanu is a better WR than Sanders? Yes or no?

That's not really the fair question, is it? The extra contract year needs to be factored in, and other issues (Edelman's health, hopes for the clueless rookie to become less clueless, etc...) were factors as well.

But, leaving that out, I'll answer your question in a different way, because I don't think your question is relevant to where I have been coming from with this receiver corps year after year.

  1. I didn't think either player was a perfect get. Sanders is a declining player who was coming off of injury, and Sanu doesn't have the speed I wanted.
  2. I wanted a legit middle-deep threat with high end speed, in order to push the safeties deep and keep the corners honest. Neither was that player last year.
  3. Sanders is a speed/quick guy who's slowing down.
  4. Sanu is a bit more about precision and leverage.
  5. Sanu is more of a middle of the field guy.
  6. Sanders is, in many ways, an Edelman replication, with less skill inside that initial 10 yard box.

The bottom line is that the team should never have gotten rid of Brown and Thomas. Sanu v. Sanders was largely about closing that barn door after the horses had already gotten out.

Fair enough. I’ll accept that. Particularly the last paragraph.

Keep Brown? Does Thomas really make that big of a difference? Deus Doosh is hanging out with Kid Brady and Biffins too much.

Brown should have definitely been kept because the team **** the bed at the WR and TE positions otherwise in the offseason. The season was over after he was let go.

I'm not getting into this again.

Seeing how the guy melted down back in November in court then again with the cops...no W for you
We don’t know at all if that would have been the case had he still been gainfully employed.

Brady is leaving.

He has 2 years left to play and cannot count on BB to put the best possible offensive players available around him. BB will go cheep route like always. We are stuck with Sony the enigma. BB drafted a RB in round 3 last year who basically sat on bench all season - 4 carries. What a waste of a draft pick when the Pats needed a TE and WRs who could play some last year.

Just like we don't know they would have won the SB with him.

What we do know is Brown is a f-ed up train wreck. That has been proven.

Sure they would have with that defense. His presence alone forces a safety to have to shade to his side. It likely takes defenses out of C1 and into more C2/C3. The injuries to Edelman arguably don’t happen either since Brown would have been cutting into some of his targets. As it stands, without him, the Patriots were being played as if they were constantly in the red zone because no team thought they had anyone that could beat them over the top. They were right.
