you’re right

comparing a virus with less than 200,000 cases and a few thousand deaths to something that infected third of all living people and killed tens of millions is not premature or dramatic at all
So you clearly aren't paying any attention at all at how fast those case numbers of rising. Yesterday, there were four thousand new cases. Today there were nearly eight thousand. Can you do the math? (keep in mind that they aren't even testing in this country)

People are seriously going to die, it’s 100% warranted. I’m going to be up all night hoping my mom is able to board home from Italy.

Sorry to hear that. Hope she gets home safely.

Oh I was referring to the second part of your post about how’d there’d be more cases here without Trump’s swift action (not the part about the travel ban that didn’t apply to most of the people who would have come here from China and also was announced only after most major airlines had already suspended flights)
of course, there would be more. common sense. I mean common man. it was the right thing to do. it did prevent more cases from coming to the united states. why believing that blows your mind. blows my mind.

Near zero, wait that is a zero percent chance of that happening now. Hope all is well for her and whomever else is over there.

This will be the 1918 of our lifetime. And people you know and love, and people on this board, are going to die.:(

This goes nicely with your 'Burn it all down!' custom title.

It's called the "heartbreak of peckertrax"....

I'm back in a state where weed is legal so i'm luvin your posts grandpabro

If I die from this virus, my last hope for mankind is that Donald Trump’s approval rating accurately reflects his handling of the pandemic.

The company I am consulting for right now is prepping everyone for work from home. Ironically enough, this company is in an industry where we have all been incredibly busy the past few weeks. They've extended my project and I am more than happy to stay aboard since other companies are currently focused on business survival, not hiring independent contractors.

Same as my girlfriend. Her company had a test run last week for people to work from home and there is now talk of 2 on 2 off. It is a major, major, major company. So this is just the beginning.

Brilliant post.

Members of the cult of Donald will think you mean it's great because everything he does is great and he's awesome and not fat and has a full head of hair and is definitely a genius not a fat, privileged rich ***got (I'm allowed to say that word because of reasons) who just wings it while a bunch of yokels cheer for a billionaire ******* who isn't smart enough to realize he doesn't have a clue.

or the rest of us will just go 'yeah that'd be nice'

Oh and not to be all doom and gloom, but I hope people are prepared for the worst. If, and I pray it doesn’t happen, things go south or people can’t work and then run out of money and or food, watch out. Stay vigilant and use this as a lesson if you haven’t done some prep work earlier.

Just got an email...my daughter’s school is shut down for the next month. We are in the Bay Area, so this isn’t surprising...in fact I kept her out of school the last few days because I figured the announcement was imminent so why bother. The staff and students are all panicking.

Concerned my in-laws will eventually get it from my kids..they’re in their late 70s.

Whatever you say. Stay safe Captain, most of us are probably gonna get this thing regardless of any travel bans.

Real talk: My company recently started trying to put an end to its longstanding work from home program and if a single person at my company dies I'm going to have a real hard time not writing a '**** you i quit you don't care about your people at all' email to him and letting the chips fall where they may.

ps - I'm not impacted since I live too far away from an office for it to be feasible for me to drive in. But I'm infuriated that my company is going in the wrong ass direction.

Good read actually. But please notice the repeats of "unknown" and "can" (as opposed to known and do).
And I'm not hinging anything on spring. What I am providing is both factual information as well as relaying opinions that are going to rebuke your statement that this new variant is not going away and going to get worse.
Fact, Corona 19 variant is new to humans. Fact, we know that many known Corona viruses are often significantly negatively affected by warmer temperatures. Fact, I am not saying this is or isn't going away or that it will end with the first hot day of Spring. There's too much unknown to make that a statement of fact. Fact, those on public boards stating as fact this is not going away and going to get much worse, or it's like the flu pandemic earlier last century, is likely to help cause panic that will lead to stress related illness.
How unfortunate for them especially if it doesn't get significantly worse, right?
So you didn’t read it? The word unknown shows up 0 times and the phrase not known shows up once regarding virus load on an inanimate surface.

If you reference Table 1, you will see that at room temperature many strains persist for days, even at 40*C some strains persist for up to 96 hours.

Hope is not a plan. Neither is avoiding reality due to stressfulness of a situation. I am not advocating anyone panic, however let’s work with a full set of facts to get the best information possible while evaluating how to handle this event.

Panic is not a solution. Be diligent to wash your hands constantly, be mindful not to touch your face, etc. Plan to deal with the worst case scenario and work your hardest to avoid that being a reality.

Calling the 19 comparison to the influenza epidemic the early part of the last century unsubstantiated and dramatic is "not listening"?
Feb 28 South Korea, who is doing significant testing, had 800+ positive results. Today they had 114. A downward trend that has only been broken once in 14 days. China, with 1/5th of the globe's population, has been seeing rates decline for over a week.
OTOH, the influenza epidemic killed 50 to 100 million people. Up to 5% of the global population was killed.
While I absolutely agree that this outbreak is not to be dismissed due to the unknown (people, this is most certainly not to be dismissed, there's too much unknown right now to dismiss it). But taking these numbers so far then extrapolating them out to compare to the last century's flu outbreak, then acting as if that is anywhere remotely close to fact is hysterics helping to spread what may very well be needless misery..

You guys can Tom Hanks pls not die from this? I love that guy.

ps - if i die from this thing i'm probably ok with that. I would prefer to see my grandson grow old and to have more sex partners first but I got to hold him the day he was born and last Christmas and I've done my fair share of plowing so you know, it's ok if i die, i made something out of my life and i just want you guys to know i love you except for most of you who just make me die inside but the rest of you are cool imo

Im going to guess you’re as upset as I am regarding our lack of command and control during the outbreak and now many different agencies are needing to learn coordination in real time. This article sums up a lot of our lost capabilities but you know, travel ban China.
