The Tom Brady rumor thread

Prior to joining, I wonder what he did to Phil the void?
Perhaps that’s why @Patjew left, one too many philistines. Now he’s off wandering in the desert and Andy is trapped in a void of his own making. I can’t wait to spRing forward.

Carson Palmer’s brother said Stidham is Mahomes 2.0. Giddy up!!! That’s good enough for me. Brady is going to be 43 this year and may have changed a little in past few years, anyway...thanks to his famous wife. I played church ball for years (despite being agnostic), and I can tell you, when I turned 43, my once aggressive runners and floaters became pull up jumpers and like Tommy, I’m generally very pliable, but at 43 my hammies, groin and back became more stiff and less explosive. Bring on Super Bowl Stidham and we will all go to Jarrett’s for Ring 7!

This isn't a rumor. This is just me. I am deeply depressed at the thought of Tom Brady going somewhere else to play. I am mad at the Pats and BB for sticking to their proverbial guns at all "costs" and not making an exception for Brady, who is a once-in-a-lifetime player who deserves once-in-a-lifetime treatment. They should have given him the two year deal he wanted last year, and they should give it to him this year (if he'll even take it at this point), and stop ****ing around. The guy had just won the Super Bowl last year and they wouldn't re-up him for two years? C'mon man! He's the best player to ever play the game, and Jared Stidham ain't no Patrick Mahomes. They are insane to let Brady go from all standpoints, including wins and losses, PR, and financial (loyalty and rewarding a stellar player who has given you everything you could hope for for the last 20 years should also count for something, but they don't, because this is a "business"). It's a financial struggle for me to renew my season tickets, but I have never seriously thought of letting them go. Until now. If they don't re-sign him I told my husband I don't think I want to renew. It's not just me. As my 87 year old Dad said, if they don't have Brady, "it will ruin everything." Have you looked at or listened to Brady this offseason? He looks as miserable as I feel. Come to think of it, he looked pretty miserable all of last year too. I wonder if the Brady ship has already sailed, thanks to BB and the Pats treating him like he is "just like any other player."

For me this is like the Freddie Lynn debacle. When I was a young kid I was a huge Red Sox fan and my favorite player was Freddie Lynn, handsome outfielder who ran headlong into the green monster to always make the play. Then this new thing called free agency happened, and Freddie decided to be a test case. He left for the Angels and I couldn't even look at the Red Sox for about 20 years.

After his stubborn "my way or the highway" Malcolm Butler crap-out in the Super Bowl, I don't trust BB to do the right thing here (he already did the wrong thing last year). God I hope I'm wrong. Do the right thing BB. Don't ruin everything.

And do the right thing Tom. Don't run off to some other team for your last one or two years in the NFL, being some other team's PR coup. Stay here with the fans who love you and want to see you retire in a Pats uniform, having capped off your incredible career always in one uniform. I couldn't bear to see one of those full page ads in the Globe from you thanking the fans for their support, unless it's to say that you are retiring (which will still make me cry).

I have a hard time blaming either regardless of how this turns out. Both have made thousands upon thousands of decisions over the last twenty years on and off the field. Some of them may have been wrong but most of them have been right and have led to nine super bowl appearances etc...

I still think Brady ends up staying for a couple more years. Ninety five percent of what we're hearing is pure mediot speculation fueled by a few leaks from both camps.

We'll see soon enough.

I understand how you feel but try to take the emotion out of it.

I'd have a lot more angst over this situation if Tom was in his early 30s and was a FA. Hes 43. We've seen his best. Its not like we've been deprived.

TBH for you to say you do not have confidence in BB making the right decision is absurd.

Jimmy is an example of BB's competence in drafting and developing the position.

Malcolm Fiasco? You are still blaming BB? They won it in 2018.

...and Freddie Lynn was not going to sign his player option and wanted to become a FA. Sox wanted to lock him up. He refused. Takes two to do a deal.

Renew your tickets.

I feel you

we will all go to Jarrett’s for Ring 7!

ive always wanted brady back badly but the possibility of our haters having to hear a similarly corny line for a full offseason has me reconsidering

Hammer, meet nail.

I can't help but think Tom is butthurt about not getting a long term deal last year after all he's done. Bill, ever the pragmatist, looks at it as Tom is 43, and we must go year to year. Therein lies the rub. Bill gets that players get older, and he has to keep moving forward if they are going to succeed. He can pay someone in that position 50% of Tom's salary and get 75-80% of the production. He can spread the remaining money around and keep the team relevant and give them a chance to compete at the highest level. He's done this with everyone prior to Tom, and it's no different with Tom's situation, no matter how much we all wish it wasn't the case.

I think if there was no cap, they woulda paid Brady whatever he wanted and said thank you for all you've done. But the NFL doesn't work that way. There's a cap and that keeps Bill's hands, Kraft's wallet, in check.

The Patriots system works. It's hard for us fans who love players and wish they'd stay (Milloy, Willie, Seymour, ect.), but the cold harsh facts are this is what the Pats do, and it's what made them successful. In this case, we are talking about the greatest player to play the game, and it's gonna suck to see him (maybe) in another uniform. But, the Patriots will go on, and they will be competitive, because their system works. To your point, RW, you are correct, we aren't losing a 34 year old Tom Brady, at the height of his powers. This still sucks, however.

Two years from now, they will erect a statue of him out from of the PHoF. None of us are going to care about all this once that day comes.

It does suck. I wish Tom was under contract for 2020 but he isn't. We can sit here and blame Kraft and BB for not extending the terms or we can sit here and blame Tom for not playing along like he has for the last 20 years. I'm so sick of the blame game.

If Tom truly is disgruntled (which I think he is) he should go.

If Bill projects Tom to decline further in 2020 and not be able to "carry" the team as a franchise QB at franchise QB $ then he should find another QB ASAP.

If the inverse is true then they should lock themselves in a room and figure something out.

Counterpoint: I have been on the waitlist FOREVER. :D

Real talk, I hope PatsDeb renews because she's great... but that, in the silver lining of this whole end-of-an-era thing, many of the frontrunning fans ditch, and I can finally squeak through.

I'm in the same boat.

Can't relate at all. I just don’t get why so many posters are this attached to one player. Love me some Brady, but if he moves on after two decades of excellence, I’m more than fine with that.

He’s given fans so many wins, so many iconic moments. But, to me, Brady is a chess piece used for winning. I don’t care about him as a person. I wish him well, but we aren’t family/friends.

Love ya Capt but I want Brady back so that we can watch the Patriots make a couple more runs at ring 7.
its not happening tony. he doesn't have it in him anymore. i wish he did.

Bill is in a better position to evaluate Tom than we are...he's the same guy who dumped a good QB in Bledsoe for an even better one. I trust he'll make the right decision again. More often than not he's done a good job evaluating when a player is no longer productive. His drafting is another story though...

Marcus Mariota everyone loves a redemption story BB and Josh fix him Marcus wins comeback player of the year we don’t have to cough up a pick it’s a win win.
However trading up for Herbert as a franchise QB is super entertaining otherwise only other QB I would want is ol Cole McDonald.
