We have a new leader for dumbest statement of the day.
We spent too much to bring in this middling veteran WR. He caught a lot of balls in his first game but got injured and wasn’t the same all year. Fans are calling to cut him as his cap numbers are too high for what you get.
But enough about Danny Amendola’s first year. What’s this about Sanu?
Sadly, the trade was a bust. 2nd-round wasted. Clip him and save 6.5m towards a better WR.
He is not a #1. #2 is marginal as well.
He was 27th in receiving yards among WRs a season ago.he is a number 4 receiver.
I don't understand why players play seriously hurt. On the one hand we are told that the NFL is super competitive and you could lose your job any day but on the other hand are the backups so terrible that they aren't better than players with sprained ankles?
Much less a high sprain which is even worse. Never understood why they kept running him out there, and didn’t give it proper time to heal. I get we needed WR help, but it always seemed like it was a lose the battle, and lose the war kinda head scratching decision. I put it on the medical staff.
It's not like he was suddenly double teamed or the CB1 covered him.The injury only made a bad situation worse. Sanu came from a team with two very good receivers taking pressure off of him. Here, he didn't have that luxury seeing as the only real threat was Jules.

Yeah, Sanu's been a consistent 60/800/4 guy his entire nine season career as a second or third receiver on two different teams, and he was on pace for it last year again before the trade (and on pace to exceed it after the Baltimore game, in which he got hurt). That's right about in line with Amendola's best seasons with the Patriots and more or less the statline you expect from any #3/4 option (i.e. in recent years, the next guy up after Edelman, Gronk, and White) in the Patriots offense. On the open market, you'd need about $10m to buy that sort of production. Sanu was acquired because he was a consistent producer and his cap hit is extremely modest. He's far from an exciting player but it's hard to see a team as cash-strapped as the Patriots replacing him with anyone better without paying money they don't have, especially if they're going to spend money on a true #1, and other than a swiftly aging Edelman it's not like the wide receiver depth chart is full of known talents.
Not every WR can understand & execute Patriots playbook. WR's come in with great numbers from previous team and bomb out here. It may be likely that Sanu can do well in Bengals simple playbook but cannot master the Patriots playbook.
If you draft a speedster (ala, Henry Ruggs) you may not need someone from the slot who needs to more underneath than a vertical threat player.
Thank you. People often take the human element out of it.If you can't make hard cuts, your routes get rounded, and you're thinking more about your ankle potentially exploding than you are the right reads. It's not an excuse, you're out there you've gotta do you job, but some of you people need to give these guys a break when they're playing hurt.
