More playoffs teams in new CBA

.500 or a game or 2 below...maybe being truly "alive" with 3 or 4 games to go...not alive like Cleveland was last year needing 7 teams to lose, 3 to tie, and 5 teams to win... spectacularly mediocre? 2019 Pat's vs good teams last year...Pat's over last 9 last yr..4-5 including playoff debacle would qualify as spectacularly mediocre
This makes no sense. I don't care who it is including the Patriots -- mediocrity should not be rewarded with a playoff berth. EXCELLENCE should be the goal, not "barely above average." Adding another regular-season game and more playoff teams is just a cash grab by the league that waters things down. The biggest travesty is having only one playoff bye in each conference.

This bites the bag

Gawd, their turning it into the CFL Which has an 18 game schedule and 6 of 9 teams make the playoffs.

Applying that same reasoning of FCB, all 32 teams should make the postseason.

Um no....look back over the last 5 or 6 seasons, perhaps 10 seasons even...there are precious few sub .500 clubs that would make the playoffs under this new scenario...

You can go ahead wish for meaningless Pat's games in 3 years when Stidham is leading them to a 5-7 record going into December...I want the Pats to make the playoffs as often as possible, if that means a scant few 8-9 teams make it so be it

What difference does it make... we're talking about just MAKING the playoffs in the next 2, 3, 4 years.... Once Brady goes it'll be considered an accomplishment to qualify... And I'm AOK w that
You're looking at it from the pats perspective... You need to look at it from an NFL historical perspective

Good news:

The NFLPA executive committee voted 6-5 NOT to recommend the current CBA proposal, source said. That is simply a recommendation, though. It now goes to the 32-man board of representatives.

Comments:

a.) I like the new CBA proposal...

- 14 teams in the play-offs means an awesome wild card weekend with two consecutive days of triple headers. Great for betting....
- 4 more players to the roster (2 active and 2 PS) (would have helped us keep 2 extra developmental guys).
- Extra emergency OL-man on game day (would have helped us last year with injuries on the line).
- 3 IR to return guys (we could have brought back Develin, Harry, and Wynn the past year for example).

b.) I hope it is agreed upon prior to the season because I really want the NFL to start renegotiating their TV contracts...in particular friggin' DirecTV/AT&T's Sunday Ticket package..... that package needs to be sold to multiple parties. I just abandoned DirecTV and will be hitting the bar this fall...and now I am on YouTube.TV...but will have to abandon my local channels (antenna doesn't work in my area cuz' of mountains) and switch over to Sling TV for August/September just to ensure that I get pre-season and the early season Thursday nighters on NFLN. No Red Zone for me this year... It's friggin annoying! Friggin' AT&T and their stupid TV packaging....

This new proposal is a joke! Do not like an extra team being added. Also not having two BYE teams? What a joke. So a team could go 12-4 or 13-3 and not be rewarded for it.

I don’t know how you like it. Frankly it’s rewarding mediocrity. That extra team added to the playoffs and only having one BYE team in each conference is a flat out joke.

It is my belief that if your team is a great team, it'll be capable of winning 4 games to reach the top of the mountain.

Case in example, the 2008 Patriots...they were playing very well down the stretch and I don't think it would be a stretch to say that they wouldn't have reached the AFC title game for a rematch with the Steelers.

Sure, other Patriot teams have benefitted from the #2 seed to reach the AFC title game with only one home win...but those teams were good enough to win 2 anyway, IMO.

thats how they do it? Lol that is terrible

I don’t believe that at all. The playoffs are a different beast. You’re not awarding another team that could be 12-4 or 13-3. That’s a joke. You gonna have that team play 3 straight games to get to a super bowl.

Considering they would have been the #7 seed playing the #2 seed Steelers Wild Card weekend. Not only would it be a strech, it would be impossible.

But of course, this is all about money soooooooooooooo...

Everything the league has done since 1920 is about money, including the changes you like. Complaining that something "is all about money" is about as meaningless an argument as you could possibly make about any profit-seeking venture.

Sources expect the 32 team reps to vote to send it to full membership for a vote.
Sources: CBA vote will go to full membership

Sending it regardless of recommendations by the membership reps. The union bureaucrats are trying to slam this crap through. Probably get bigger dues from the higher percentage and thus higher salaries as a result. The ages old battle between labor aristocracy vs. rank-and-file in microcosm.

(Kontra, if you're looking for an indication I don't work for a union, here you go...)

Change of plans.

The NFLPA announced that no vote will take place. The NFLPA executive committee, which negotiated with team owners on the proposed deal, voted 6-5 against recommending it earlier in the day.

In a statement, the union said the executive committee hopes to meet with the NFL management council executive committee in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine next week. A vote would then follow that meeting, although it is not clear which issues have led to the change in plans.

So, in all likelihood, they knew they didn't have the votes.
