More playoffs teams in new CBA

6% more games to play for 1.5% more money sure sounds fair to me.

What are you, some kind of commie????

(I was going to point out what XLIX did, that it's not 1 to 1 here, but this seemed funnier.)

Deus complaining about the weed thing but this **** is just far worse. More games just aren't anything but bad for the players if they only get token increases in labor share of income. NFLPA go home.

God F this league

God F this league
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb
God F this league
Goodell's not a human being
and There's no future
No new Punishment for New England keep dreaming

So they're going to play an extra game, add a playoff game...and what they get in return is:

-less training camp
-less practices
-only one less preseason game
-$5 billion over 10 years
-smoke weed

Pretty sure that at least the extra playoff game is happening:

"That's been agreed to for a long time," one source familiar with the CBA talks said to ESPN about the NFL's new playoff structure. "There wasn't a lot of disagreement to that issue."

NFL appears headed to 17-game season, playoff expansion as CBA talks continue to advance

In a perfect world, the league reduces the preseason to 2 games, adds an additional bye week into the season so each team has 2 and leaves the playoffs alone...if they cared about quality and player safety. But of course, this is all about money soooooooooooooo...

They sure love the Steelers. Under these new rules the Steelers would have been in the playoffs 4 more times in the past 10 seasons. Wow. Ridiculous. Another reason to quit the NFL once Tom has retired.

Get ready for the retroactive addition of 4 Steeler playoff appearances.

What about Article 46?

I need to think about this more but my hot-take is I'm not all that upset about less preseason games and more playoff teams. At a high-level it means more meaningful games which is what I want. I'm not a fan of a 17 game schedule though. If they want to do that then they should expand rosters and get rid of Thursday night games. At some point quality will suffer. Need to do what they can to get a interesting, watchable product on the field.

What about Article 46?

They’re considering changing the name to Article Go Fck Yourself. NFLPA in agreement if they get an extra Wendy’s dollar menu item every three years.

So what's the new playoff format? The 2 seed vs 7 seed, etc?

I'm curious of why there isn't more talk of a second bye week.

This makes it easier to:

Make the postseason.

But it makes it more difficult to:

Make it to the divisional round.
Make it to the conference championship.
Make it to the Super Bowl.
Win the Super Bowl.

For the #1 seed, it’s the same path. For the #2 seed, it requires one more win, which is a big difference. I assume the postseason will ultimately become an 8-team race with no byes and 4 wins required to win it all, even for the #1 seed. This is why there aren’t really any dynasties in baseball anymore because they ruined the sport with teams needing to win 3-4 series instead of 2.

The NBA playoffs suck with 8 teams. Just look at all the problems there...unbalanced conferences, sub-.500 teams making it, etc. Before the East made some headway recently, they were talking about just having a 16-team tournament from both conferences. In other words, a total sht show mistake.

I don't like it, but I also don't care enough to stop watching over it. And that's the only thing that's really going to matter in the end.

Add eight teams (one per division). There is so much demand for professional football, and I would love to see more teams. Portland, San Diego, Mobile/Birmingham, San Antonio, Albuquerque, Richmond, St. Louis, Salt Lake City. It would also be awesome to have international teams, though it probably couldn’t work logistically. But some cities that would be candidates: México City, Vancouver, Montreal, London, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam, Madrid.

Eight teams make the playoffs from each conference.

Increase schedule to 18 games.

All of the sports leagues want longer schedules and expanded playoffs but are unwilling to create more pieces of the pie. First league that undergoes mass expansion will become wildly popular. The 30-team league is a concept from the late 60s/early 70s. 40 years later times have changed.

The NFL makes money in spite of themselves. It’s run by incompetent greedy idiots who seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot.

The current system is perfect but as is typical with management types, they have to act like they’re doing something to justify their useless existence.

This is pathetic.

Nice. So we can get some **** teams in there like in the NBA, where a team that is 10 games under .500 has a legit shot of making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Pure brilliance.

They know that for all the complaining, people will still watch. In droves. They're greedy but not stupid.

Being overly greedy is stupid. It’s far cheaper to keep your current customers than it is to go out and attract new ones. Continuing to saturate the game is a great way to lose a massive chunk of your current audience.

People against this are morons...so you want the Patriots to play meaningful games in December post Brady or do you want them 6-6 or 5-7 with absolutely no margin for error in making the playoffs...trust me, jarett Stidham or whoever plays QB next is not going to have the Pats at 10-2 come December...I'll take a spectacularly mediocre 5-7 Pat's team playing a big game on on December 5 as opposed to a team playing out the string

Also under this new rule the Pats would've made the playoffs in 02 and 08...wouldd the holier than thou anti more playoff snobs have watched the Pats Playoff game in 08 and 02? Or would they have worshipped their Otto graham bobble heads and watched 70s Grogan highlight vids instead?
