Other than one song and they (did or do) have a girl drummer and guitarist, I know nada about them

Me either. I just hear them when my daughter takes over the radio.

It is not really a big deal. Music like classic rock and motown are solidified in history and at some point it will be a research project for teens in high school and then bamm....another bruno mars is born and you get motown back. It will happen eventually for rock.

Doubt it.

What classifies as talent these days is pathetic. The bar has gone lower and lower to where any Yahoo up on stage is considered a rising Star. Bruno Mars is a joke too.

Ever go to concerts at the Channel? What a great venue that was.
All...the...feckin...time...as Dorchester kids, we especially appreciated its convenience.

The Rat was a favorite because of “anything.”
Great pre-flight & post-flight venue for Friday night games at Fenway, and the bands they had downstairs...historic...

Rock music isn't dying imo. My daughter and her friends listen to various new age rock. They just don't listen to it on the radio.

Some of the stuff she listens to has a rock/punk sound to it.

Skillet is the only band I can think of at the moment but there some pretty good ones out there.

Yuck. Sorry, couldn't get through it. When I think "rock," I think driving backbeat with a sense of melodic swing over the top. This one is a bit involved but the first 5:30 summarizes what I'm talking about.

Bruno Mars is pretty talented. There was plenty of garbage back in the day too. They just didn't have a social network to dump their stuff out into the public with.

Yup, grew up with BCN and HJY. Loved Lou Brutus on HJY...also WCOZ "Kick Ass Rock n Roll" before it became a disco station...BCN had too many legends to list them all... Charles (Big Mattress), Chachi, Ken Shelton, Mark Parenteau...."Five minutes past the big hour of 5 o'clock..."

and don't forget Tank on Sports

BCN's last song -Shine on you Crazy Diamond...
I miss Bowling For Dollars

I saw Black Flag there around 1983. Was not my scene really as I was a total deadhead at the time....but was fun.

That’s how it happened.
Example:
Sophomore at UNH. Go into the record store on main st the second day back in early September. See this in the new arrivals bin:

Buy it. Listen to it. It’s ****ing great. A couple of weeks later I see in the Phoenix that they’re playing at the Metro in October.

Becomes a life long band I love.
that the one with the song west of the fields on it? good listen

edit: oops that was murmur

Yes I understand that. I'm not sure if I'd call Mastermind contemporary rock with a progressive edge or classic progressive rock. It's definitely a more sophisticated style imo. Harder than Alan Parsons or Emerson Lake and Palmer and similar to Rush. All of which I can listen to for days on in.

I've never heard of Mastermind but they have a good sound. Kind of a mix between Rush and ELP or something.

I've only listened to Skillet when my daughter is controlling the radio but they have a type of Green Day sound. I wouldn't buy the album but don't mind listening to it.

Anyway I prefer real music which I know is subjective. For me that ranges from The Little River Band, Dwight Yokum to Metallica and everything in between.

Occasionally you can add Pachelbel to that list.

But I was just pointing out that kids are still listening to something that resembles rock n roll, whatever that is.

Here's some good insight into one of the reasons music turned into a complete pile of you know what over the past 25-30 years or so:

Really digging the people who came of age in the 60s/70s regaling us with tales about how music has gone downhill since then.

Really? Cool! It all started going downhill around 1980 with the rise of major-label conglomerates replacing true artistry with commodity marketing. Want to hear more?

I love Beato's channel!

One great thing not yet stated in this thread from the 70's was general admission concerts. You would line up early and it was a fight to the front. Saw ZZ Top and Triumph at one of those ... oh man. Loudest concert ever .... easily The Clash.

Those were the best ... people would be passing joints around don't know where they started or where they ended ... the entire area was like a huge bong.

You never see people rushing the stage anymore. Concerts these days are too "civilized."

the last time I got near a stage was Woodstock ‘99 during rage against the machine......I had to fight my way out.....never went near a stage again
