Trade the 1st for Diggs?

??? I mean I'm not exactly a guru on every football roster beyond NE but even I recognize every name on the list... it's quite a list of wasted talent
Most were well known, esp to draftniks. Twitter has become quite awful in terms of groupthink.

What’s the most expensive existing contract Belichick has ever traded for? Michael Bennett was the highest I could think of, which at the time of the trade was $7.6 million average for two seasons.

How about a first for Kupp and a third or fourth?

This is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts for WR’s in recent memory. I know we don’t really have faith in our receiving scouts, but wouldn’t it be better to use that first on a rookie receiver to save the cap space to go after some TE’s or OL/DL prospects?

It's an interesting question in that usually BB tries to balance winning now with being competitive long-term. If we decide that, given our track record of drafting offensive skill players, the best way to give Brady weapons is to trade draft picks for them, then we are essentially saying the window is about to close and let's mortgage the future for a run over the next two years (assuming Brady re-signs).

Of course we tried that with Cooks and it sort of worked (he was a productive receiver) although we'd need to do it more than once to really refill the arsenal. My guess is we wouldn't be able to flip Diggs back for a first like we did with Cooks.

I doubt Belichick does that but maybe it's part of the agreement to get Brady to come back. If we do trade for Diggs then I'd be on board. It'd be funny to see the reaction on this board though given how many people here ripped him for "staying out on the field for too long" after making one of the most exciting plays in NFL history against the Saints a few years back.

Unfortunately no. Brady wants a new toy and doesn’t want to spend time with rookie WRs.

Why is he all P.O'd with Minnesota? System? Early season freeze-out?

Seems like a petulant, immature baby. Deletes all the Vikes-related Instagram photos.

Love his talent but from the neck up, nope.

Sanu for Diggs straight up.

He has somewhat of a diva behavior.

It's better to spend that pick on a receiver on the first round again.
One of the reasons the Pats are so bad at drafting receivers is because they don't do it enough so they lack previous experience, feeling and some other things, and of course the main reason is because their evaluation sucks or maybe they've been victim of some statistical anomaly so if they keep trying chances are there will be some regression to the mean unless they absolutely suck at it...eh well... Anyway, go offense early again.

Who is a better WR? Diggs or Beckham?

Criteria:
- deep threat with speed?
- can get separation in any route?
- more durable over time?

I know Beckham is cheaper than Diggs (salary + compensation).

I'd rather have Kupp or Thielen.

But, any of them are likely better than whoever the Pats would draft.

Beckham, but I’d be happy with either of them.

I think Beckham is in a class with Jones, Hopkins, and Thomas as one of the league’s top receivers. His career has been largely wasted with Eli and now Cleveland. Imagine this guy with a great QB.

Yeah, I didn’t care for the decision to pass on both Isabella and Renfrow in the draft, but then we’re getting into the general criticism of the WR drafting process, again.

I'd do it if we got a 3rd or 4th as well.
Hell, I’d do it for a first and Kupp. That kid would be ****ing DYNAMITE with Brady in this offense. He’d also take a massive amount of pressure off of Edelman. Think 2016 Chris Hogan on steroids.

While I don't see the Pats acquiring Diggs, I think it's essential they acquire some WR/TE talent before free agency starts if they want to keep Brady.
