Brady Negotiations to Begin at Combine (Merged)

I expected some disagreement, but not 100%. What exactly about this man do you guys find intriguing as a developmental prospect? We took him round 4. That's not where you find your starter. All I'm saying is we absolutely need to keep looking for QB prospects.

Should they have waited for round 6?

Intriguing aspects: Strong arm, chip on shoulder for being picked late, good size, semi mobile, quick release, intelligent enough to learn the system quickly, good rapport with young receivers particularly Harry, very accurate arm.

I don't remember ever seeing the Patriots facing a harder schedule, not only with the opponents but the travel on top of it. It's a freaking meat grinder.

Maybe the NYFL schedule maker will screw up and put two of those three west coast games back to back. That could allow the Pats to stay out there as they've done in the past. I also can't wait to see how the NYFL will screw the Pats with the way they set up the bye weeks.

To be clear, you're offering Brady $50M over 2 years or over 3 years. Please specify the contract: salary and bonuses.

As an aside, I would presume the structure of a Las Vegas contract 2/$60M would be something like a $20M a year salary and a $20M bonus. The only question would be to total guarantee which could be $40M, $50M or $60M.

My proposal is as follows:

3 years, 70M in "new money" with a 50M bonus.

Breakdown would be:

2020:

New Bonus: 16.6M
Old Bonus: 6.75M
Salary: 6.6M

Total cap charge: 29.95M
Total in pocket for Brady: 56.6M

2021:

New Bonus: 16.3M
Old Bonus: 6.75M
Salary: 6.6M

Total cap charge: 29.95M
Total in pocket for Brady: 6.6M
Dead cap hit if we part ways with Brady: 33.2M

2022:

New Bonus: 16.6M
Salary: 6.6M

Total cap charge: 23.2M
Total in pocket for Brady: 6.6M
Dead cap hit if we part ways with Brady: 16.6M

=============

Summary: It is competitive with any 2 year/60M offer the Raiders/Chargers/Titans might offer as it gives Brady 50M upfront and makes it EXTREMELY likely that we will not part ways with Brady for 2 seasons..therefore making the 13.2M in salary virtually guaranteed (the dead cap hit would be too great). So, in short...Brady would make 63.2M over two years by staying with the Pats. Also, it keeps his cap numbers just a shade under 30M/year...with a final year of 23M...the same he made in 2019.

Do note that this would make Brady the 5th highest paid QB in the league behind Goff, Big Ben, Cousins, and Wilson for the 2020 season.....of course this is before Mahomes and others re-up.

In addition, in the final year...should we move on from Brady to Stidham (in his 4th year by then)...the QB charge would be 18-19M on our cap...manageable....and gives us a 2 year Superbowl window with Brady only eating 6M more of our cap space versus the 2019 cap charge.

Thank you for the clarification. You either expect Brady to play for $23M a year, or to retire before Year 3. In that case, Brady would have received $63.2 over 2 years.

1) I don't think that Belichick would agree to paying Brady $63.2 over two years, or $56.2 for one year if Brady were to retire after one year (certainly possible).

2) I don't see Brady agreeing to play for $23M a year. If we were able to play Year 3, he would sit out rather play for $6M. To remove this ugly possibility, there would need to be a Year 3 Option Bonus of $30M which would be unlikely to be paid.

Brady will use Kawhi Leonard strategy on the team he really wants to sign with.

Tampa Bay have everything Brady needs plus a Good Drat position Brady should likey likey.

We are the Knights who say...Yee!

Guregian: “The feeling is it might be a starting point for real dialogue about a contract.”

Again, fake reporting using “the feeling is” instead of a source. Pathetic media smoke and mirrors continue.

In thinking about this contract for Brady and the Pats, I remember back when Brady was in his mid 30s and I believe the contract extension he signed was for 3 yrs/$27 million was set to expire when he was 39. I remember thinking back then that it would be the last contract he signs with the Pats as I assumed Bill would move off of him by age 39. Then in 2016 while we all assumed Jimmy was the heir apparent, Brady signed a 2 year extension taking him to age 42.

While everyone wants to talk about how Bill moves off of players a year early that has not been the case with Brady. This notion that Bill is done with Brady or won't pay Brady really seems silly in lieu of past history. I would not be surprised at all to see a 2 year deal now at $30 mil a year given the new CBA should be in motion which will definitely off-set the $13 mil dead cap hit. All indications so far have been that the Pats do in fact want to work out a new deal. Whether it happens or not who knows but I never ever thought Brady would play for us through age 40 much less age 42 so here's to hoping we get a few more years of the GOAT.

Someone get rid of this post. It doesn’t match the foolish, oft parroted idea that Belichick can’t wait to kick Brady to the curb.

CBA should be done soon. Hopefully that makes it easier to get a deal done. It’d be odd to make this deal before the CBA when the new CBA is so close.

True but they are the Bucs. The Titans are the only organization that has their **** together that can offer a better winning situation than the Patriots.

Brady mulling retirement?

Except a run game. Defense is worse too.

Yeah, but as we all know, Brady plays the game so that he himself looks good with gaudy stats, and he doesn't care much about winning. He'd rather throw for 500 yards and lose than win a game 13-3.
