Bob robbed the cradle ... again?

Yeah it’s ridiculous. We had two engagement parties, she had two showers (friends and family), and we had an engagement shoot. Granted, the engagement shoot came with the package, but the photographer was still $3,000. Those pictures were embarrassing enough to do as a dude, but to make matters worse, I wore a long-sleeved navy blue button down, skinny khaki pants, and boat shoes. The problem is that, while it was an overcast October day, the humidity was ridiculous. So some of the latter shots in the shoot are me just absolutely drenched in sweat. I got thoroughly roasted for that in the group chat.

I think the problem is that everyone needs to have a bougie wedding these days. It has to be the most expensive venue, top shelf liquor, and in a very controlled environment. You feel like you’re stiff walking around a wedding like that. Our venue was outdoors, with cornhole and Jenga, a cigar bar, and top shelf bourbon and vodka but cheaper liquor on the rest. We’re both Irish. Irish people don’t care what the hell they drink. They just want it to taste decent and get them drunk.
My wife and I got legally married by a JP and then had a nice outdoor ceremony later at a relative's beautiful Wisconsin farm in conjunction with an extended family reunion on the longest day of the year. We didn't spend much money but didn't need to.

In China you do the wedding pictures before the wedding.
At a studio, with makeup, changes of clothes, pro photographers, etc.
Getting wedding pictures the day of is a big roll of the dice.
Better to get them done (out of the way) in a more controlled environment.

The wedding day...holy mackerel...take 200 Chinese people add firecrackers and alcohol.

You’re lucky. What time of year in Wisconsin?

I remember visiting an ex brother in law at a penthouse condo on a Pinellas County beach after he remarried a rich old broad, widow of a contractor. She was like 20 years older than him. He answered the door wearing a bathrobe and sucking on a pipe at like 2 in the afternoon. I laughed and asked him if he thought he was Hugh Hefner. He said sure, if Hugh was dating the grandmother of playboy bunnies. Lmao, I couldn't do it.

You missed where I said the longest day of the year -- June 21. It was a perfect summer afternoon/evening. We had a husband-wife professional photog duo shoot the ceremony and the two of us posing around the rustic farmhouse and barn in our wedding duds. My cousin's farm has a gazebo in the backyard, looking out over farmland and hills. Beer keg, wine, lots of food and the best cake I ever ate brought in from a local bakery.

The biggest expense for me was her wedding ring, which to be honest kind of blindsided me. I had an engagement ring custom made for her containing the diamond from my late mother's ring surrounded by several smaller diamonds and just assumed we'd exchange gold bands for the wedding. Then a few weeks beforehand I got the subtle-yet-not-subtle message that she was expecting MORE diamonds a la the wedding ring -- apparently a common thing I was not aware of. She found one she wanted in a jewelry store so I swallowed hard and ponied up.

yup...life is like a three ring circus...but then you clowns know the punchline by now, don't you...

That's exactly what I did in Taiwan. My Ex and I spent about two or three hours dressing up in different outfits taking pictures together. There's a picture roaming around out there of my ex and I dressed up as a Samurai and a Geisha. Hahaha.

You should have asked to speak to the manager!

(glad to hear that you are Irish. There's hope for you yet!).

"No, no there's not." - said in your best gobshite brogue.

ERIN NO BRA!...(that's what I scream when I'm drunk on Irish whiskey...)

How does Erin usually respond? Uh-oh ... she don't look happy ...

So like all the time?

I doubt it. I think @Joker is certainly more well rounded than that. I'm sure sometimes he's drunk on other types of whiskey, tequila, rum, vodka...or any of the host of other possibilities. There's a world of opportunity out there for someone as adventurous as our man Mr Joe Kerr. Although I'd also like to think he draws the line at froo froo drinks, a man's gotta have standards after all.

So, he likes young women. All billionaires do.

I think this is the guy who was writing off his gold-digger's expenses as gifts and kept her away from his money when he passed. I seem to remember a lawsuit but I can't remember their names to check it out.

I'm not sure if I'm not in the norm but I enjoy old movies in that genre. Maybe it has something to do with the way I was bread.

In that case you might want to check out these fantastic movies if you haven't seen them;

1- Life With Father (William Powell and Irene Dunne from 1947)
2 - A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (the book is great too, from 1945)
3 - Somebody Up There Likes Me (the Rocky Graciano story with Paul Newman, from '56)
4 - The Hustler (about a pool hustler also with Paul Newman, from '61)

I remember watching the first one about 25 years ago when my youngest son came down the stairs in the morning and watched it with me. I was pleasantly surprised that he liked it, even though it was in black and white.

Working on it, sir. God, that poor kid who is unlucky enough to be my son or daughter. Hopefully they end up more like my wife.

EDIT: If $20K is all I’ll end up having to spend on a kid, I’ll consider it a win, though. $20K does not go very far at all for a wedding. What a god damn racket that business is. Their margins must be absolutely insane.

Many years ago a new employee where I worked was getting married and he invited all of us to his 50K wedding at the Danversport Yacht Club. Before the wedding he asked me if I had any advice for a newly wed couple.

I said sure, don't invite folks you hardly know to a huge 300+ person wedding and pay through the nose for everything. I told him he'd be better off saving the 50K and investing that instead.

That sounds great.

One of our nephews got married outdoors at his friends home in Georgetown MA (his friend is a member of the band Extreme). It was a beautiful wedding.

Didn't see the first three but have seen the Hustler a few times.

I've also binge watched the Honeymooners a few times. I think every episode is in YouTube.

Anything with William Powell pre 1948 is just about a classic...add in only Mister Roberts after 1947.

Isn’t that Anna Nicole Smith?
