Mookie Betts - Traded to Dodgers w/David Price.

I think he will be traded but I would rather he sign a long term deal with the Sox. He is the only person on the team worth the money.

Did I read that he turned down a 10/300 offer today? Was that real life?

What an insulting offer. $300,000,000??? Dude needs to feed his family.

I don't see any way we keep him.
Whatever money he gets will be a huge overpay.
He's worth more to put people in seats than for his stats.
Sorry ... he is an above average player ... not sure about superstar longevity.

I just don't want to see us trade him for a salary dump ... that will be a mistake.

If Price(is Wrong) is part of any Mookie deal with the Dodgers, then the return wont be very good, but it will give the new GM more flexibility to shape the team in his image, which he should be allowed to do.

Cant believe they traded him. Good luck finding someone that good offensively and defensively in the toughest RF in baseball

Depends on the return. I’d imagine joc is part of the deal and if they pulled either Lux or May as well Id say they did pretty well. Sox weren’t going to pay the 300 mil plus to keep Mookie.

Edit: Verdugo is mookies replacement. Good prospect

They HAD to trade him. 1. He isn’t worth 400 million. Small guys never last. 2. He sucks in the postseason when it really matters most. 3. He had ZERO intention of signing in Boston so they had to. This wasn’t a payroll dump, it was what had to be done.
Good riddance imo. I don’t have to watch him try to pull off speed pitches or just flat out miss on them.

There ya go...

Sox also get top twins pitching prospect Graterol.

100mph, 21yrs old.

Regards,
Chris

Obviously getting Mookie makes the dodgers offseason winners but I HATE the Maeda for Price swap. Did LA really need another underwhelming lefty in the postseason?

I liked Mookie, but not for that money. If you look at the regular day free agents that signed big contracts, I don't think any have played in the WS. The Rays have money issues, but almost always field a great team. The Sox now have a decent payroll. Let's see how they do.

They're ALL overpaid and someone other than the Sox will overpay him, but to say he is an above average player is daft. Mookie is arguably the 2nd best player in baseball behind Mike Trout and he hasn't even hit his prime yet.

I’m 39 and the Red Sox just traded the best all around player of my lifetime to save money.

This is such an Oakland A’s move.

would you prefer he leaves, and they get nothing for him? I like the trade. They get a player from the dodgers that a lot of people thought was going to be rookie of the year if he didn't get hurt late last year. And a 20-year-old pitcher that throws 99 mph. If mookie wanted to stay in boston they would have found a way to sign him. As much as I love to kick the sox. I can't on this move. And they dumped david price and most of his contract. Good riddance to that jerk.

They traded him because he left them no choice. Bogie, a Boras client, took less to stay. Betts wants absurd money. He wanted Ortiz status money. Guess what Ortiz did that Mookie never did?

Show up when it mattered most, the post season time and time and time again.

Gets them out of the Price deal. Don’t think they were going to be able sign him anyway and we got 2 really high ceiling players in return. I’ll miss him and I’m glad he was here to bring the trophy to our town. No hard feelings, its a business as we are continually told. We got championships since 04.

Yeah. I’d rather him get to FA, and see what the top offer is, and then top it.

I don’t think he’s getting 12/420. I’m not even sure he asked for that much. The team could have leaked a fake number to make him look bad like they always do when someone leaves.

Then once the numbers are out make the decision. If he walks, fine. But don’t trade him. He had a chance to be the best Red Sox player of all time. He was exciting, dynamic, beloved in the clubhouse and in the community, and homegrown. That’s who you overpaid for. If you have to eat 3 years on the back end, fine.

Maybe if we hadn’t given out deals to Price and Eovaldi which were obviously bad from day 1 we wouldn’t have had to sacrifice Mookie.

Also baseball’s economics are ****ed in general and the sport is dying because of it. This is the latest example. One of the marquee teams in the sport just traded one of its all time best players to get under the tax. What a joke.
