None of them ever said JG would ever be as good as Brady. They said he’d (a) be good enough to keep the team in the hunt for deep playoff runs and (b) be around for years after Brady had to hang up the cleats.

He's still not as good as Brady now. So the conversation of whether or not he should have been traded is over and should have been over last season.

I was a JG critic more often than not during the “debate” here and he certainly didn’t play well.

But last night it was obvious he also had the reins on him and it wasn’t unnoticed by Chiefs players.

If that’s what the Niners coaching staff thinks of JG at this point in his career it makes me think that he isn’t long for the 49ers.

This is not Garoppolo first year as a starter.
You are splitting hairs, his first year as starter ended after three games. This was his first FULL season as a starter.

Stop it, your hatred of the guy is making you look silly. That photo close-up presents an incomplete image -- he was in the process of throwing when hit, causing his eyes to shut reflexively. He rushed the pass but didn't close his eyes and then throw the ball. He was a top-10 quarterback who led his team to the Super Bowl in his first full season as an NFL starter and was the game's MVP through more than three quarters. You're wishing hard for him to be a failure but reality suggests otherwise.

I've describe Jimmy as a tier 2 QB, which he is imo. Excluding outliers ...
Tier 1 - win bc of, can carry you at times

Tier 2 - won't hurt you/can build around.

Last night both QBs had some terrible passes/decisions & needed help. That said you still saw the difference for a few plays. Mahomes is a guy you ride or die with no matter if he's 10/30. You're living or dying on his ability to create & arm.
Shanny doesn't trust Jimmy like that and for probably good reason. Doesn't mean you can't go back and win with Jimmy next year. He just needs more help than a tier 1 QB.

Another typical non sequitur from the poster struggling mightily to translate feeling personally threatened by JG's handsome looks into bad quarterbacking. o_O

Being a sports fan is complicated some times & this is one of them. Jimmy is no longer here but as a draftnik/Pats fan I want him to do well bc of where I had him QB2/2nd Rd. And where we took him, 2nd Rd. He's one of Bill's best picks along with C Jones & a few others. So from that pov you want Jimmy to succeed.
We absolutely made the right choice trading him. Although I wish we did it sooner & went with value > insurance.

100%

SF ran for 6.4 a carry, and all they had to was run it out. Horrible.

I think I read that while leading the game, SF had 14 plays and ran it in 5 of them. Up 20-17 and 2nd and 5, shocked they abandoned the run. KC was physically incapable of stopping it at that point in the game.

It’s Shanahan’s highly controlled play calls. Jimmy has looked handcuffed all season. Still it usually works. I’m not sure these KS and JG are a great compatibility fit though

Garoppolo's Super Bowl was bad. He threw an interception early. He had an absolutely dreadful 4th quarter including throwing another INT. He failed to score when his team needed him.

But unlike the OP, I'm not gonna gloat over it.

Yep. They run the ball, they win, and with exactly the same performance (to that point) JG is a SB champ and Mahomes choked.

History is written by the winners.

Any reasonable debate whether JG should've been traded was rendered moot in 2018. But it might be argued the Pats would have done no worse with JG at the helm in 2019. On the big stage last night, of course you'd give Tom the nod.

Some of you really need to get over Jimmy G!

Fair enough. FTR, I'm gloating about how it is now conclusive that trading him was the correct choice. It should have been conclusive after the last Super Bowl win but apparently it wasn't because there were arguments made that JG could have won SB 53 and possibly Super Bowl 52 if the Pats had kept him which minimizes the difficulty of getting to and winning the game.

JG had a Super Bowl caliber team and didn't win. Why? Not because he sucks or isn't capable but because it's freaking hard to do.

Brady has gotten to the Super Bowl 9 times and won 6. He's won it all types of ways. Massive comebacks, record numbers or handing the ball off. Each game is different but being mentally tough is the common ingredient in all of those wins.

Anyway, I don't hate JG. He's a good young QB who will have a long NFL career and hopefully he'll get his SB ring one day. But trading him was absolutely the right decision.

One game doesn't indicate much, especially since they were 15-3 heading in.

But god bless Brady. So happy he was the one, and I do like Brady's chances of accumulating more rings than JG starting the date he was traded. Brady is already one ahead.

That three-and-out with five or six minutes left was brutal for the 49ers though. Shanahan should've went all Vrabel with the clock.

You don’t owe anyone an explanation. You are a valued contributing member here

Brady lost 2 and Jimmy lost 1.

I mean I chose Brady every ****ing time too but it's insane to pin that loss on jimmy

Try the coaching and the officiating first.
Did Mahones win it? If so, doesn't the same standard apply to Jimmy G? Particularly with a 10 point lead in the 4th? Yeah, maybe the coach blew it by going away from the run, but he did so trusting Jimmy to deliver.
