Jimmy Garoppolites appreciation thread

I've watched Tom Brady. I've fan girled over Tom Brady. Jimmy, you are no Tom Brady.
Brady is arguably not Brady anymore either, and almost certainly won't be Brady anymore in another year or two.

I have to see him first stink it up with an above average offense. His arm strength has still not dimished.

The guy has a deer in a headlights look.
Don't tell me, let me guess ... Samsung 146-inch 4k, perhaps with surround sound? I'm envious. I'll bet you even can see players' pupils dilate behind their facemasks.

I don’t know guys, Mahomes made the plays, that 3 and 15 play to hill was nuts. The defense of the 49ers kinda played scared the whole game against the KC wide receivers.

49era got away from the run game, they needed to stay with it, but they decided to just hand the ball to JG and had him lose the game.

JG melted when he was under pressure, I’m sorry but he just didn’t look comfortable and made horrible decisions.

The game came down not to the defenses but which QB was poised to go and win it all.

JG might be just another Alex Smith of the league.

Now the 49ers defense was pretty bad at times, you need to keep Mahomes in the pocket and they failed miserably time after time, he kept rolling out and making plays with his feet.

The PI on Kittle at the end of the half was clear as a day, he extended his arm. The 49ers started good in the 3rd just didn’t play 60 minutes.
That’s the difference between losing and winning.

I thought Garoppolo played well for 3.5 qtrs, but in crunch time he didn’t deliver. On that late 4th quarter drive where they were up and trying to kill the clock, on the 3rd down play he had a guy crossing over the middle wide open and he threw the ball away which gave the ball back to the Chiefs who went right down and scored. Big, big error that for some reason wasn’t even pointed out by the announcers (Fox did a horrible job. Many times not even replaying a key down). Then the big miss on the long pass when he had Sanders open for the TD.

Garoppolo outplayed Mahomes for 50 minutes, but no one will remember as he couldn’t close the game.

He played well for the most part. Chris Jones gave him problems. If he had connected on the bomb to Sanders he would be a hero right now.

We both know that he’s still really good, but your statement is why I’m hesitant to believe that they’re going to offer a real multi year deal.

If they were going to offer a real multi year deal, there likely wouldn’t be any issue. I’m even going to go as far as saying that there almost certainly wouldn’t be any issue. While we hope that they’ve realized the error in their ways, the fact remains that they wouldn’t do it before, and now he’s another year older, and coming off of a rather mediocre (for him) season where he battled multiple ailments. I’m not confident that a multi year deal will be on the table, and I just have a weird hunch that’s what he wants to shop around for. After all, if the reports are true, the Pats are already offering a nice raise.

Hard to disagree with any of this.

Heck we don't know if Jimmy G will be Jimmy G anymore.

Jimmy the GQ game manager.

Dude is nothing special.

I'm not a Jimmy G fan but was rooting for him to take home the ring (over the Chiefs.)

Half the guys here hate Jimmy G, b/c to them he is a symbol of "premature" belief that with Brady over 40 and a legit NFL talent on the bench, it was time.

Half the guys here hate Mahomes because somebody has annointed him the chosen one (Making Brady "yesterday's news.") In fact last night when he actually won something, the mediots were already saying now he's the face of the NFL*... yeah sure, as long as he doesn't win too much :D

All of this revolves around Brady being the identity of the Pats. I'm a Patriots fan. I don't hate either of these guys. I wanted Jimmy G to win because he sat behind Brady all those years. I would have rooted for Mallet, Hoyer, Cassel, or Brissett for the same reason.

And I am sorry sunshine, we might still be getting our vicarious diamond ring moments from Brady next year, or we might go to Jarrett. Right now, no telling. All we know is that either way, we will be the N.E. Patriots. Not the Bradys, the Patriots.

JG definitely lost composure when it counted. He failed to find his target on his last 2 possessions

that’s where Brady was at his best

:( Not one of your better efforts Tony, passing full verdict on Garoppolo after one season as a starter and one Super Bowl effort in which he played at MVP level into the fourth quarter. While it might be OK to challenge those who wanted to keep JG over Brady three years ago, it also is fair to assume that Jimmy will be a starter in this league long after Brady retires.

Starter yes. Carry a team to the super bowl no. Basically played like Tannehill with a better defense. The 49ers may not even extend JG.

Throwing up an interception with his eyes closed.

This thread is littered with false either/or arguments based on tiny data points.

Brady is the goat.

But jimmy didnt blow a 10 point lead.

Just like brady didnt blow an 18 point lead in 06.

Failure to score. The 49ers defense played an overall good game...the deep ball they gave up during the rally really killed them. But if their offense would’ve tacked on a few more points, who knows?
I feel 2007 was on our Offense, too.

Exactly what I stated.

Jimmy was handed a super bowl caliber team and choked the victory away.

Garoppolite nation has been telling me for over two years how trading JG was a mistake and now we know that it wasn't.

The Garoppolites remind me of the Bledsholes. Both groups thought that another QB could do what Brady does.

Garoppolo is a decent QB. He can look at a stud a times, but he isn’t the QB you can rely to carry the team on a regular basis. Shanahan did a very good job trying to put him and the team in the best position to win this year, but many times it was to keep the ball out of Jimmy’s hand.

The more I see of the guy, the less I believe that Belichick was totally convinced he was the heir apparent. I think his ceiling is never going to be more than slightly above average. The 49ers showed you can win with him if you have a very good team around him. But even as bad as Mahomes played for three quarters, you can see the great divide between the two QBs. One stepped up when he had to and the other fell apart.
