Do we bring back Teddy Karras?

Why is it assumed we won’t pay Thuney?

We’ve paid interior lineman premium amounts for their position before.

He's going to be in pretty high demand. He basically played error-free this past season.

The belief is because they already paid a G in Shaq and will not have a lot of $ to sign a seemingly expensive FA like Thuney.
All depends on what we do with Brady honestly.

Too many wild cards to figure out. We are missing Medicals on Andrews, cannon, Mason cajuste and frodholtz.

thuney is probably gone. He should command some serious coin.

If I was karras I would cash in as big as I could on this season and hope someone stupid, the Jets, pays me starter money!

Here's a bold prediction (and it's even bolder in the wake of Scar's retirement)

If Karras return, he's gonna play at near pro-bowl level.

Except for his snapping and all that it encompasses, i remember seeing him doing some solid blocking late in the season

I think he's gonna play better than that very quickly at guard

Curious of the extent of discussion through the season as far as extending Karras, or whether it was a discussion at all. A little tough to tell what he might fetch in free agency. When looking simply at cap hits, the 16th and 17th ranked cap hits for centers in 2020 (according Spotrac anyways) are 6.25 and 5.575 million. See no reason why he couldn’t comfortably hit that mark, especially when seeing some of the names that are in the 6+ million cap range.

Our line was better at pass blocking than run blocking and for good reason.
Having Gronk made that scheme easier to utilize ... man was a wrecking ball.
So I think we're going to see some larger OL brought in this spring as we transition.

This is basically what we did when we hired DeGigologlierio. It gave us Jordan Devey.

We need to draft the most dominant blocking tight ends.
Get Develin back healthy and I like what I saw from the German fullback.
Maybe run some
Formations with 2 fullbacks and 2 tight ends in the formation?
I’d like to see more wham plays.
We need to really nail this draft and free agency especially if we are really planning to roll with Stidham and or a Mariota kind of Calibur QB.

Wasnt Karras drafted as a Guard?

To me, the most obvious move would be to bring him back and put him on Thuney's place...

he improved during the season and at guard we wouldnt have to worry about his snapping ability.

Regardless if Andrews comes back or not, we need depth inside

This seems like the most likely scenario.

I like Thuney. He's developed into our best and most reliable lineman over the past two years, but the team can't afford him. Someone will pay him $14 million. That plus Brady's projected cost kills most of the cap without factoring all the other roster needs. If Brady leaves, and we eat the dead money, the only way to remain competitive will be to invest in the defense while the offense is rebuilt on the fly.

Karras can be had a low end starter money.

That's the easiest way, not necessarily the only way.

We let Thuney walk so as to continue our 3rd round compensation streak alive.

Karras got better as the season went along. To me, he turned into a pretty good back up and I’d like him back if they feel the money is right.

Not to mention last year when Turning Point highlighted his good work against Aaron Donald in the SB

my dog says bring him back on a vet minimum deal with some incentives because even though he wasn't a glaring liability, it would not be hard to find another FA with a little more athleticism to use for depth

Over the second half of the year, Karras looked like he belonged as a starter, and that was at a position that could arguably be his weakest of the IOL. If Thuney leaves like we all expect, Karras could be the new LG. No matter where he plays, I think he’s going to command much more than the vet minimum. After all, he seems like a capable backup at center, too.

he was just ok

According to multiple sources over the last 6 games of the regular season: 0 hurries, 0 pressures, 0 sacks. You can’t get much better than that.
