I wish the Pats had a backup as good as Hill.

I posted this article but am as skeptical as many here. Seems like a gadget guy who should be used more. Not sure I’m buying into this starting QB stuff though.

One thing that’s bizarre is that if they think this guy is their future, why didn’t he even start over Bridgewater? Or did they just decide in their last game that this guy is the starting QB of the future because he threw a good deep pass?

I would like to see him play more. All signs are pointing to him being a great 21st Century QB in the NFL. Need to be able to scramble and throw the ball after coverage breaks down. He is also a running threat. This is the league now.

Hill is a rich man’s Cordarrelle Patterson. He’s a gimmick player who’s good in the role he is put in. To have him as your legitimate starter is insane. Either Florio is just making things up or someone in the Saints office is leaking this nonsense as some sort of smokescreen maybe to leverage Bridgewater or even Brees.

As for Brees, two years ago I thought he was fading. His arm looked to be tired the last month of the 2018 season and I was thinking he would have a big drop off this year. This year I didn’t see any drop off. He had zip on the ball and was completing a ridiculously high percentage of passes. Yes he had a bad playoff game but that was an anomaly against how he performed after coming back from the thumb injury.

The smokescreen is a good take on this. Maybe the Saints are just begging some schmuck team to give them a draft pick when they tender Taysom Hill, hoping this cools off the market for Bridgewater, or lowers the perception of Brees's longevity and highlights his shortcomings so they don't get other bidders. Brees has said he'll only play for the Saints, but who knows for sure...players say things publicly all the time.

This will either be amazing or fail horribly. Either way, I’m here for it. If Payton likes what he sees behind the scenes, who knows maybe he can do it.

Bridgewater is solid but has a low ceiling. Taysom, who knows?
Couldn’t agree more, might be a total disaster but I must admit I will watch. The highlights will be electric, like watching Tyreek Hill guilt free. The lows? Hoo boy could be lots of butt-fumbles. Brees-to-Thomas on 9-yd slants and outs? ZZZZZZZZ

Give the young Mormon the ball and let it rock. They ain’t winning **** with Brees anyway.

yeah but two years ago he played a whole season, this year he played what like half the games? so it makes sense his arm didn't die quite the same way, it had half the wear on it by postseason time

It's not wild to me the Saints are considering their future and making move towards it without Brees. He's a great QB but even with some amazing weapons has not been able to seal the deal the past two post seasons, and basically lost it for them this year.

What is wild is that this report is suggesting they will go with Hill? Wtf? You have Bridgewater who did a great job in your absence, or some guy who like. Is hard to plan around because of the sheer fact that he's rarely been used before and teams don't know what to expect. Even then, he displays nothing amazing.

Whatever. Do it, Saints. I'm always down for another team shooting themselves in the foot.

Is Hill really even a rich man's Patterson? Patterson is like. Terrifying when he starts running lol. I'll admit, I didn't watch Hill much. But I feel like Patterson is like a friggin' bucking bronco.

Here’s my take: I think they’re really high on Hill, as others have mentioned. Bridgewater was a decent enough game manager, but I think some are overrating him. A lot. He looked real good in the Bucs game, and he looked efficient in a couple of others, but I think his ceiling is limited and they know that someone else will overpay.

Skeptical as well over the idea of the Saints locking into Hill as their future starter.

This scenario with Brees and Hill for 2020 just sounds like a case of Saints likely hoping they can, a) spend more time assessing Hill’s longer term fit/potential, b) have Brees who’s still one of the better QBs and more safe than bringing in a “transition” guy would be, and, c) continuing some of the things they did last year that worked well/adding on in terms of implementing Brees and Hill.

Just seems like a team taking it one step at a time, and the real plan is to figure out a plan.

Come on guys. The guy throws a long pass on play action and gets a few runs and now he's going to replace Drew Brees? lol.

Well, Hill has some Lamar Jackson in his game....not out of the realm of possibility given that the Saints have Kamara and Murray to mix into a heavy rushing offense....
Why does he remind you of Jackson? Because he runs? Jackson can throw the ball, too. Hill’s never proven he can do that outside of gadget plays that, by design, get the safeties to bite on something underneath.

Payton is smart enough and have seen enough of Hill to know what he's capable off.

Might not be the same offense. I can see a taylor made offense for his skillset similar to what the Ravens did with their offense to match Lamar's skillset.

This is obviously hypothetical if they do go with Hill as their QB.

I think Jackson is going to alter the way people look at the QB position. Tying a lot of money up in old, veteran QBs may not be giving maximum value - when you can take a QB that does not check all the boxes, tailor the offense to their skill set, and be successful. If the Saints have concluded that they are at their ceiling with Brees - why continue to pay him. And a bad loss at home to the Vikings might have made Payton realize that.
