TMZ reporting the passing of Kobe Bryant

King - Michael Jordan #GOAT & Prince - Kobe Bryant #2GOAT! Period! Period! Period! #RIP!

the shock value on this is through the roof. I can’t sleep. My mind is racing. I have tears in my eyes. I’m at a total loss

It's very upsetting to me and I cant shake it.

I keep thinking why and how and my mind also races with thoughts of things I can connect to kobe, like my cousin just two days ago sending me a video of him saying which WNBA stars he felt could compete in the nba.

It just seems unfair in a world where unfair things happen all the time

Going to bed now but just having a hard time with this one. With social media and 24hr news you think you get oblivious with all the sad things happening in the world. Just really sad for all the families involved.

+1 here in terms of feeling so hit by this. Death and loss is hard no matter what, but this feels too damn “real” if that makes any sense.

It’s one thing when you hear of an old timer who passed, and you can appreciate his or her long life, and simply force yourself to accept that it’s the reality of life taking its course.

This situation is just absolutely crushing, and a complete tragedy in every which way. :(

Still hard to grasp. I wonder how kobe’s parents feel? I don’t even know if they ever made amends. They always thought about kobe but also about the money and him marrying vanessa so young. She was younger. I don’t even know if he had contact with them.

It is unbelievable. Kobe Bryant's image was ingrained in my mind - he was defining post-Jordan NBA, but also competetiveness, rivalry, hellish desire to win, inidividualism. On his best days he was able to bring down opposing teams on his own, and did it with a vast arsenal of world class skill, like a seasoned surgeon (compared to more common bulldozer type of players). What's more, he epitomized youth, as he joined the league as an 18-year old and didn't seem to age that much in his 20 seasons playing for Lakers. He was designed to last and impress.

Perhaps that's why his passing is more difficult to understand - accidents happen, but NOT to Kobe Bryant - he was like Achilles of the modern world...

I'm not a pilot but I saw video of the crash and I don't think fog had to do with an insane downspiraling crash. I may be wrong.

This is a tragic and sad event, absolutely. But personalizing it to this extent is worth examining as to why.

God. Kobe just died and his wife/kids lost him and another family member and a couple users here actually decide to attack him about past charges? Can't even wait a day? This + the behavior after our loss in the WC is near sickening. Not to mention the thread laughing at KC Chiefs and looking like a sore loser.

25%-30% of this board should be ashamed for everything post WC.

RIP Kobe.
RIP Kobe and people aboard that helicopter. The problem is when an individual dies, people sometimes make the person out to be something they are not. It happens all the time. Kobe was a great athlete, that much we know. Everything else is perception.

You would think Elvis died.

You would think Elvis died.
It’s all relative, some people really were impacted by him. Let em grieve. Not the time to question it.

It's interesting how as fans, we react to the tragic passing of celebrities.

I was never a big Kobe fan but after the rape situation he seemed to get his life back in order. I always respected his game .

Most likely a criminal? Please never sit on a jury.. or have kids ideally.
This type of response is exactly why rich celebrities get away with crimes. As described by @QuantumMechanic Kobe's legal team intimidated the victim and she had very little recourse. Maybe many on here believe it's easy for a 19 year old who gets attacked to go up against someone like Kobe.

Generally when someone dies it’s good to focus on the positive stuff about him or her that day. People all know about the negative stuff but why dwell on it. Same conversation was had for Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, etc.

I really didn’t like Kobe but had some level of very grudging respect for his will to win (same thing that drives Brady) and today sent sincere sympathies to my friends who are Lakers fans.
I hear what you are saying. I just said that I don't undertand why someone's passing becomes a recalling of good points only. After I pass away, there will be both good and bad to my existence. In some cases, I was a very positif influence on friends and family. On the other hand, I admit to making mistakes and being wrong.

Kobe Bryant was not convicted of raping that girl. The process didn't convince me. I think he did it.

It's baffling. This stranger who had athletic talent passed away. Why "we" need to glorify him is beyond...

Because we all want to be remembered for our good, and not our bad.
