TMZ reporting the passing of Kobe Bryant

"We know the pilot contacted the control tower at Burbank Airport around 9:30 AM PT, and the tower was aware the pilot had been circling for about 15 minutes. The pilot eventually headed north along the 118 freeway before turning to the west, and started following above the 101 freeway around Woodland Hills, CA."

"At around 9:40 AM they encounter more weather -- as in seriously heavy fog -- and the chopper turned south. This was critical, because they turned toward a mountainous area. The pilot suddenly and rapidly climbed from about 1200 feet up to 2000 feet."

"However, moments later -- around 9:45 AM -- they flew into a mountain at 1700 feet. Flight tracker data shows they were flying at about 161 knots."

Fitting that the p*ssbags I’ve blocked on this site are offering the cruelest takes of this ordeal.

Reminds me of the story about Hal Kushner in Ken Burns’ Vietnam War.

I think another poster mentioned hoping they didn’t “suffer “ or know they were crashing. Slamming into the ground at 185 MPH makes me think it was quick (if that could be considered a silver lining to this terrible story)

ETA - Stevie Ray Vaughan as well

We'll all speculate & guess but we should remember that the evidence is just now still being gathered on scene. I don't know whether the NTSB is even there yet... and typically it can take a year or more in a major investigation... what they do on-scene is just the beginning. (I don't know whether I am supposed to say "full disclosure" etc., but... full disclosure, I work for those guys though not in an investigative capacity.)

So I dont have anything to say that isnt public knowledge, I usually dont know anything beyond public knowledge, and I wouldn't say it if I had it to say LOL...

But I can definitely remind us all, that it takes a while to establish the probable cause etc.... just in case we're tempted to think we know exactly what happened, etc.

I always wait for the investigation to get where it gets and see the public messages about it before thinking I know what happened. All I really have to add here is the general principle to be careful about knowing too fast! :D

I live in San Diego County, so roughly maybe 130 miles south. The past 2 days, the fog has been very thick down here; I grew up near Calabasas so can imagine how thick the fog was, and how extremely low the visibility was. Just horrible.

Heartbroken.
I will never watch Basketball the same way again.

So the video of it tailspinning to the ground and exploding is NOT of the same accident?

Because the video I saw they certainly didnt crash at 185 mph

It is said that's footage from Dubai in 2018.

Why would someone just randomly say the N word in place of a team name in the middle of a newscast about a very serious topic? This is absurd. Stop searching for things to be offended by and people to cancel.

nobody’s searching for anything to be offended by.

Please. He was a kid who hit fame and fortune and made a dumb mistake. Charges were dropped. Of course he wasn't perfect, but he gave a hell of a lot to so many people. I mentioned it earlier but he had been to my work several times and made sure to greet every one of our employees with a genuine smile and handshake. He was larger than life.
...and a great athlete... and most likely a criminal. Handshakes don’t cut it for me.

There is tower chatter in this link ... last words were you have to fly higher ...
Crash site looks high but flat ... so I guess we will see.

So I listened to it and if I'm understanding correctly, he said twice he was at 1400 feet and was given permission to move west by the female on the voice but the Male said he was too low to make that path and upon verifying that to the pilot it was too late?

It's crazy to me a pilot could be ai incompetent to take a flight path without visually seeing what hes doing without the proper information amd fly into a small hillside.

That really makes me mad

I mean I guess it could be "Knickers"?

I was thinking that too but why the hell would she say nakers in her tweet whatever she said it clearly wasn’t nakers. Knickers would make more sense

We could bring up the trial in Colorado. Never been able to understand how tragedy leads to immediate sainthood. Excellent athlete. Greatly flawed individual.

Generally when someone dies it’s good to focus on the positive stuff about him or her that day. People all know about the negative stuff but why dwell on it. Same conversation was had for Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, etc.

I really didn’t like Kobe but had some level of very grudging respect for his will to win (same thing that drives Brady) and today sent sincere sympathies to my friends who are Lakers fans.

To be fair, when I showed my dad that video he laughed cause he didnt hear the word everyone else said she said, he heard nakers

So I dono whar to think. Inclined to think she said what she said she said.

greatly flawed because he got accused of rape and his accuser refused to testify?

I mean, his crack legal team basically ran the sexual assault defense playbook and cast her in a horrible light and bullied her into refusing to take the stand, it wasn't like she chose it of her own free will. He also then issued an apology, and it's up to everyone to decide how legitimately contrite he was, in which he more or less admitted to rape, so there's no real reason to defend him on this by smearing the victim... especially since he himself refused to do so and also specifically requested that other people not do so.

He got off in the legal system because he was Kobe Bryant and because rape cases are hard to prove; it's between him and God on forgiveness for the actual act, which he admitted to and publicly apologized for. No one's beyond forgiveness and Kobe himself was an odd duck who actually showed a willingness to go beyond the ******** of PR and put in effort to atone in the past (he got suspended for calling a ref the f-word once and then eventually became a GLAAD spokeperson and champion). I will say the fact he even put put an apology, in which he acknowledged and said he understood now that the victim didn't think there was consent, was odd and rare in such a case. I'm really not sure I've seen a similar thing, at least not from someone on such a pedestal.

He was a great basketball player. I think to call him a flawed human being is correct. I think saying the latter and then discussing some of the ways he mitigated those flaws in ways others don't, regardless of money and influence, because he was kind of a weird and thoughtful guy who also started a truly historical NBA career at age 18, may actually turn out to be his legacy.

who was smearing the victim though? Pointing out the fact she didn’t testify isn’t smearing unless I imply that she was lying or is a liar or something else

As for him being flawed, we’re all flawed in our own ways. Rape cases are unfortunate. Bringing up a questionable case seems like an attempt to smear him IMO. We will never know the truth about what happened that night.

What I do know is people of all different races, gender, sexual orientation are deeply shaken up over his death. Seems like a guy whose done a lot of good and has a had a huge impact on many. That’s what I’ll remember him for
