Tanguay: Brady “embarrassed” by his compensation, is leaving

This is all BS. Brady over the years made a decision to TAKE LESS so that the $$$ goes to IMPROVE THE TEAM.

Just garbage news media....

Brady may have taken less, but he was still one of the higher paid QBs. He just never held out to be the highest - like Peyton and Brees have. Now the gap between highest paid and Brady is very big. Brady was in the bottom half of QB salaries last year. Inferior players like Stafford, Carr, Goff, and others are making more than him.

Of course he’s not happy about that. Those connected to him like Curran have been saying it for a year. Why else would he insist on the ability to be a FA if he was happy with his contract?

It’s weird with shaugnessey. He’s on our sports radio up here in Maine during the pats season, and I like listening to him as a guest contributor. I like hearing what he has to say. I also hate reading his columns. It’s like he’s two different people even when covering the same topic. One is reasonable and informative and the other is snarky and a douchy. It’s weird
I don’t hear him on the radio, but that’s the same way I feel about his books. His books are well written, informative and no snark. His columns, on the other hand... oy vey!

I think, and just speculating like everyone else, that it’s the extension he wanted and didn’t get that’s at the center of this. And taking less for his entire career is a slap in the face to him, like “sure, you’ve always put us first and taken less, now go fck yourself if you think we’ll extend you at your age.” That’s why he wanted the no tag clause because with his contract and the tag, the team would have taken zero risk and had the option to keep him, but Brady would have all the risk and no assurances to play for Pats beyond 2019.

Year-to-year must be infuriating to Tom, and considering how he is driven by slights, it’s not good. Either let him finish his career goal of playing through age 45 (which he has said for years), or he’ll find an organization that will. Kraft of course spins it like he couldn’t do things any differently, but of course he could have.

On top of all this all the talk about taking less to win and have better players around him...2019 was just a complete disaster. Salt on the wounds in the worst way.

Think the Patriots FO is going to badly regret the way they handled last year’s negotiations.

Petey King said that Brady was NOT about money but more about talent on offense.

isn't it kind of tied together though. You take these cuts in salary and there was nothing to show for it this year. Of course he's going to be pissed. I don't blame him one bit. You think talented musicians want to go out there and play with scrubs? heeellllll no.

Isn’t it inappropriate for a teacher to make comments like that about a student?
Very unprofessional. You should probably delete it.

Totally agree - from context she's pretty much identifiable, so you've just talked smack about some kid publicly, and we could even imagine that you are implicating a family trait. Yikes.

He is probably not embarrassed but a year to year contract is an insult.

We focus on the mediot messengers. That isn't the issue. And, we have very little to go on. Perhaps the decision has already been made (either way); that does seem possible.

To me it is fairly simple. Brady has to decide whether he wants to play for us, with the likely injuries that he will get playing for the patriots, and all to throw to mystery receivers.

Brady is the GOAT. He had a great line in front of him in 2018, plus blockers like Gronk, Allan and Develin.

Does anyone think the Patriots might have some sneaky interest in Taysom Hill? You known Bill and Payton are blood brothers. If either the Patriots or Saints make a move for him, I will be surprised but not absolutely blindsided. Bridgewater, Brees, Hill all free agents. That is a fascinating situation there with that offense having like 6 pro bowlers including Beast Thomas.

Brady possibly selling himself as a mentor to other teams as part of the package?

Tom Brady prepared to meet with teams other than the Patriots in 2020 free agency

I think the whole TB12 thing is the buried lede here. He's already evangelized his kooky Instagram diet regime in Foxboro (you have Ben Watson claiming it let him play on a torn Achilles) and wants to bring it elsewhere; free agency is a perfect excuse to do that. LA, land of the Instagram diet kooks, seems increasingly like chalk at this point.

CHB is still the worst. He really should unburden himself. He hates life.

CHB has hated life since the Sox won in 04. All his books about the Curse that made his income triple yearly became worthless. The dude goes to negativity in Boston sports like a moth to a flame.

OTOH, per McGinest, Gisele hates LA.

This would be completely insane. Look at the guy's career passing stats. Hell, look at his college passing stats. They'd be better off acquiring Johnny Hekker to play quarterback.

If you’re the Jets with $65m in cap space do you take a shot? They both love NYC.

Of course, it’s the Jets.

How does she feel about Indianapolis?

Good catch. While winning is his first priority, TB12 brand development is a close second. He certainly seems to be quite the true believer. At least it’s not (yet) as totally into pseudoscience and snake oil as Goop is.

Also, if LaCanfora is right that Brady wants to hit free agency, then that puts Brady on equal financial footing with any other QB the Patriots might sign as only an extension would give Brady a $6.75mil cap “head start”. Once the contract expires it’s $13.5mil on the cap no matter who the Pats sign.

With the the caveat that this is a LaCanfora article, this quote was interesting:

Brady also is eager to take on the role of mentor to a young quarterback, no matter where he plays, hoping to leave any organization in good shape when he retires. Part of his legacy, he believes, could be tied to seeing future generations embrace the TB12 training and lifestyle regimen that Brady strongly believes has helped him play so long at such a high level.

Haven’t heard the “mentor a young QB” angle before. Of course, if he wants to play until he’s 45, any ‘young QB’ will be close to the end of his rookie deal at when Brady’s done.

As an aside, here: the Pats were OK with giving him the unrestricted ability to reach FA. What I'm wondering is what they feel they got (other than salary cap relief in 2019) in giving him a deal that, in retrospect, appears so one-sided.
