OT: ODB in Trouble with the Police

Well, the only appropriate response when one is not thrilled at their picture being taken, clearly is to arrest someone for assault.
Of course, two wrongs don't make a right. But when it comes to potentially riling up a police officer, erring on the side of caution is advisable. Cops are hyper vigilant about that sort of thing.

It would be great if we could have a mature discussion on the subject of racism. I have a son who has lived all over the world and after listening to him I'd say that this country is less racist than most.

You've been on this board for 8 years. You know that we are completely incapable of doing that here.

People don’t think the nanny police state be like it is, but it do.

Watch out with that race card because like all cards, it has two sides. ;) I don't know if you ever have spent time in Atlanta, but as a white man I was on the receiving end of some pretty blatant and nasty racist B.S. during a business trip there simply because of my skin color. Of course, that doesn't diminish anything you experienced in NOLA, just noting that consciousness raising is needed all around.

For every one of these stories about cops acting stupidly there are many hundreds about cops putting their lives on the line to protect people, with many of those cops paying the ultimate price. Those stories just don't get played.
True about 100s or 1000s of decent cops for every one idiot cop. But just like most types of careers, all it takes is a small number of dummies to make it tough on everyone else; and, it takes more time to repair an image than it does to do damage.

What I don't agree with is the stories of decent cops not getting played. I see positive stories on a local and national level about positive police officers on a daily basis and negative stories only once in a while. The difference to me is that a story like this will generate more comments and controversy and have a longer shelf life than a cop that does good deeds.

The cops in the recent AB video come to mind. He is cursing them out, calling them names and they just keep their cool.

Yea and I think it’s just that cops represent governmental authority and have incredible power over others, so when they have bad apples that misuse or abuse that power it really gets people going nuts

like Chris Rock said in one of his skits.. a cop is one of those jobs where you can’t have bad apples, everybody has gotta be good...

This was the joke I copied from a google search:

Asserting that simply referring to a few violent cops as "bad apples" is not a good defense for law enforcement as a whole.

"Bad apple? That's a lovely name for murderer. ... I mean, I've had a bad apple. It was tart, but it didn't choke me out," Rock said.

I know it's hard being a cop … But some jobs can't have bad apples. Some jobs, everybody gotta be good. Like, pilots. American Airlines can't be like, 'You know, most of our pilots like to land, we just got a few bad apples that like to crash into mountains.

-Chris Rock (Tamborine special on Netflix)

Lol.. obviously a joke but with a lot of truth to it

That's the third Chris Rock joke I've seen in 24 hours. Another one was also on this site, and the third definitely does not apply to anything Patriots related at all.

Sort of like Seinfeld, his stuff is applicable to a lot of stuff that comes up in conversation.

Odell Defense: I thought the cop was a stripper...

Really, getting smacked on the *** in a winning team's locker room is the ultimate sign of respect, as in "join the party."

But I just think its a bad idea to have professional athletes in amateur athletes' celebrations. Well, OK, its SEC football, so the word "amateur" doesn't quite apply, but you get my drift.

I'd like to know what the cop's assignment was. In a locker room celebration, most of the time its "community policing" which is about making sure no crimes are committed that actually cause harm to other human beings, while coaching the community members to keep it cool.

But I wonder if he was given a strict, narrow enforcement assignment, with directions such as "make sure these college kids don't do anything that might harm the property or create a liability problem for the owners of the facility." If that's the case, he was set up to be chasing his tail all night, looking for stupid little stuff like a 3o0 pound guy, feeling on top of the world in the moment, sitting in a crowd smoking a cigar, while maybe or maybe not being of age to do so. If those were the circumstances, I could see how he would be anxious about pleasing his employer while his performance was on national television, and over-reacted to the smack on the ***.

Can't touch cops.

BS. I grabbed a DC cap by the shoulder just the other day, because it was loud and he couldn't hear me and needed to see something happening behind him. He was grateful that I made the effort to help him do his job.

Plus, most cops needs a hug once in a while, like you Steve85.

That’s obviously not what he was talking about.

It looks as if cooler heads and obvious wisdom might actually prevail in this case.

Common sense will prevail, after all.

Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports that the arrest warrant issued against Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could soon be withdrawn, because the officer who was slapped in the butt by OBJ does not want to press charges. Per the report, the New Orleans Police Department may withdraw the warrant as soon as this weekend.

Report: Officer chooses not to press charges against Odell Beckham Jr.
