OT: ODB in Trouble with the Police

I’m no fan of OBJ but he’s in legal trouble for a pat on the ass? Seriously?

Cops always go over the top when it comes to their own. I knew someone back in college that was arrested for "assaulting a police officer" on Halloween because he and another guy were dressed as the top and bottom half of a hamburger bun. They apparently had a scavenger hunt list of things on Halloween night to make a "sandwhich" out of, one of which was a cop sandwhich. They took a picture where both of them were on opposite sides of a cop, but barely even in arms reach of the cop and never made physical contact with them at all (several people witnessed it, including myself, along with cell phone video)

The cop realized they took the picture and got really angry, so he took his license on the spot and said "I own you now, punk!" (no joke or exaggeration). Later that night the cops came to his house and arrested him at like 2AM for "Assaulting a Police Officer", walked him out handcuffs and all reading him miranda rights.

He owned a business and had good money so he was able to fight it in court, but it was total bull**** and just an embarrassed cop that was basically trying to ruin someones life because their fragile ego was hurt. There are plenty of good cops out there, but there are also plenty of douchebag A-holes that join the force to have power/authority over others and abuse it frequently. When he beat the ridiculous charges, several of the local cops continuously harassed him for months. He couldn't run out to get a gallon of milk without getting pulled over and cited for the most minor of things. Were they being immature college kids? Sure. Were they being criminals? No they weren't, but it didn't stop the cop from trying to ruin his life. If he didn't have the money to fight it, he may have ended up in jail.

Now in OBJ's case, its pretty damn stupid to physically make contact with a cop in really any manner whatsoever unless its like a handshake or something ha! In his defense, given that the environment was in a locker room minutes after they just won a Championship, this cop should have chilled the **** out and got over it. It takes a special kind of personality to be an antagonist in that kind of situation, minutes after the game. I've interacted with a lot of cool cops that would have handled that in such a better way, and tried to be respectful of the situation with the team celebrating, and just being there to make sure nothing gets crazy out of control. They certainly wouldn't have tried to nail someone with a serious misdemeanor over something so stupid, nor would they have allowed it to even get to that point in the first place.

If you're that sensitive (to both the butt slap and the cigars), you should not be a cop.

Especially when it was in the LOCKER ROOM of the winning team celebrating their CHAMPIONSHIP!

Guy should retire, seems like he might hate his job and everyone around him

I mean if this happened in Church or something, ok. Maybe he was a Clemson fan? lol

It’s obvious now: He wants yo get kicked out of Cleveland so he can play with Brady.

don't quit your night job, ace...

It only would've made sense to ASK the cop if it was OK to take the picture. Not many folks would be too thrilled getting their photo taken by complete strangers while on the job, especially first-responder types.

would it have been ok if cop was a female ?

This fcking joke is what all the talk is about? A playful little touch like that? Was that cop a pre-op designated transgender soon-to-be-female? Sexual battery.

New Orleans is a wonderful city that I love to visit, but then there are a lot of people (and apparently cops) who are morons. And I’m pulling the race card here. From my disgusting excuse of a human being Uber driver (making crass jokes about black people dying in Katrina) to various white locals who tried to give us advice to stay away from n-word people, this city has a major racism problem. It was disturbing to see up close. That was my first thought when I saw that video and subsequent story. Feel free to delete this post if it offends anyone...I don’t like pulling the race card, but my experience in that city and seeing this joke of a video makes me wonder.

Same as the Masai Ujiri thing, just total ********.

This guy just don't get it. Browns should immediately trade him for a 7th round pick to the Pats.

It was not OK, period. The point is there was no good reason for him to do it and you have to wonder if Beckham slapped his butt BECAUSE he was a cop. Whether it constitutes "assault" is another question, it should be a misdemeanor at most. But it made no sense just like a lot of things this imbecile does.

For every one of these stories about cops acting stupidly there are many hundreds about cops putting their lives on the line to protect people, with many of those cops paying the ultimate price. Those stories just don't get played.

I watched an interview last night with Jason Whitlock and he had an interesting take on this. His feeling is that people like ODB and AB are only interested in gaining followers on social media so they can then sell their products.

It would be great if we could have a mature discussion on the subject of racism. I have a son who has lived all over the world and after listening to him I'd say that this country is less racist than most.

Watch out with that race card because like all cards, it has two sides. ;) I don't know if you ever have spent time in Atlanta, but as a white man I was on the receiving end of some pretty blatant and nasty racist B.S. during a business trip there simply because of my skin color. Of course, that doesn't diminish anything you experienced in NOLA, just noting that consciousness raising is needed all around.

Well, the only appropriate response when one is not thrilled at their picture being taken in public (which is a completely legal act), clearly is to arrest that person for assault.

I mean, yeah, probably best not to touch the butt of a cop (or anyone you don't know well, cop or otherwise) anywhere, regardless of circumstance.

But people are genuinely trying to paint OBJ as the primary source of blame here? In a testosterone packed locker-room, celebrating the natty with his alma mater, slapping the butt of a male cop is poor judgment at best, and more likely lighthearted fun.

Imagine for a second that a male cop, in a lighthearted moment, slapped the butt of one of the male players, and that player pursued charges for sexual battery. I have a hunch what the tone of some posters here would be: "get over it, snowflake. millennials are so sensitive. a harmless slap on the ass never hurt anyone, that's par for the course in a male locker-room. if you can't handle that, you shouldn't be in a locker room and playing sports".

Again, best not to touch the ass of anyone you don't know well, but attempting to paint this as some immoral action by OBJ is ridiculous.

Common sense is needed, indeed.

For sure, it goes both ways. Sorry to hear you were on the receiving end in Atlanta. I did have a bad experience in Detroit that went the other way, too

I was just shocked in NOLA at the extreme divide. People were literally working in their job (Uber drovers, bartenders, etc) and saw couldn’t hold back from outward displays of hostile racism, even knowing we were tourists and apparently assuming we were automatically in their corner.

AB has no plan, there's no way that's true lol.

I agree, it was rude of them to not ask so no argument there whatsoever. However it’s not illegal to take someone’s photo in public, you have no right to privacy when outside your home when it comes to photo and video, this includes law enforcement (as much as they like to try and stop citizens from doing it, even going as far as arresting people taking photos... insane)

I think it would have been a perfect opportunity for the cop to pull them aside and give them a stern, adult talking to about how it’s disrespectful to do that, etc etc.. but to grab his license and then later arrest him for assaulting a police officer, which is a serious misdemeanor? That is wayyyy over the top, and basically amounts to petty revenge

they were being immature college kids but certainly not criminals
