Trade value all time high just playing devils advocate here

So after missing the afcc for the 1st time in 10 years, you wanna trade the best player on the team? With Brady coming back for one more shot? (book it).
Sorry man but that's asinine

well deserved ! Congrats to him, hopefully we have as dominant a D next year since all the energy of the Pats need to go into the O this off season.

Meh, I dont care, he got lit up when the Patriots needed him

In week 17 against Miami. When they *really* needed him, in the playoffs against Tennessee, he was a complete shut down corner which greatly helped the Pats stay in the game.

Not a funny joke but there is some truth in that...
Any thoughts? How about a trade for a great TE or a contracted FA?

Well deserved!

gilmore’s actually been one of the most clutch players weve had in recent years.

-int in last years sb
-pass breakup in 2017 afcc on 4th down late in the game.
-caused an int off foles in sb52 , our only guy to make a play on defense That game.

I may be Forgetting a few. He had a poor game vs Miami and i know it stings because it cost us a bye this year, but everyone falters now and then. Overall he is the real deal in terms of greatness and clutch play.

That was a coaching decision. If he couldn’t cover Parker, adjustments could have been made. Unless you’re implying a lack of effort (that would be crazy), then getting “lit up” was a stubborn move to continue single covering an outstanding wide receiver. When a pass rusher goes an entire game without getting much pressure, we don’t consider him “lit up” and out of the running for awards. Gilmore was the most valuable defensive player in the league. The Patriots team choked against Miami, and especially their coaching staff, as usual.

He's also getting up there in age with a big salary hike coming. I don't know if that's enough for something to give, but you're not crazy.
Yes he is

I’ve been Gilmore’s biggest fanboy all season. I don’t think there’s a poster who has posted more positive things about him as well as argued why he should win DPOY.

That said, the idea of trading him does make some sense. The Patriots have a really deep secondary, and while there would be a big drop off in losing such an amazing talent, I wonder if they could trade him for a superstar receiver. To put it another way, the Patriots would have had a better chance in the postseason with Julio Jones or DeAndre Hopkins, but not Gilmore. Other teams may feel differently if they have a deep receiving corps and a weak secondary.

But the Patriots would be losing a lot if they trade him. They have won championships with Law, Revis, Butler/Ryan, and Gilmore. Having a shutdown CB is clearly a giant piece of the puzzle for Bill.

Good for him, but feels very empty considering how the season bottomed out

I would look at Broncos and Bears as possible team partners if we opt to trade Gilmore now.
Broncos due to having contend with KCs fire power and Bears for having to deal with Vikings and Packers offense.

The trade talk is bonkers. He's been the best corner in football for two seasons and is signed to a team-friendly deal for two more. You can never have too many good corners. There is no return that could equal his contributions. Classic jacking off over dreams of shiny toys and draft picks rather than seeing how good what you already have is.

I don't think we need to trade Gilmore. Unlike Revis or Sherman, he hasn't had any major injuries. There is no reason to believe his in-game speed will slow down anytime until he reaches age 32, not to mention his extraordinary football IQ. Hell, Sherman is 31 and he's still one of the best CBs in the league, even after a major injury.

I have faith in Gilmore continuing his high level of play well into his 30s.

Except trading Gilmore to keep Jackson is the most Belichick move ever.
He has done it with almost every defensive veteran when they hit that magic number and I think what could happen is BB will put some feelers out there and if he thinks he will get more than the value he assigns him he will trade him.
If not he will keep him.
He may hold Gilmore in the same regard he held Mayo which he explained you can call about any player but if you ask about Mayo it will be a short conversation.
BB loved Mayo
