AFCCG Discussion: Titans at Chiefs

PFR says Logan Ryan gave up 124 yards and 2 touchdowns in the regular season matchup. That’s going to be something to watch.

Titans are taking this one.

49ers vs Titans will be an interesting Super Bowl.

I see two very flawed teams remaining, a good but very unbalanced Chiefs team, and the eventual champion 49ers. You could really make a decent argument for why the Packers, Titans, and Chiefs could lose to any decent team based on exploiting some big weaknesses, and a lot of the game may depend on who jumps out to an early lead. Then you have the 49ers, where I don’t see the vulnerability. They lost all three games on the final play. Seahawks, Saints, and Falcons (Falcons was their wtf game.). I really feel like the Titans and Chiefs are playing for the Lamar Hunt trophy only.

To illustrate my point, here are the point differentials for the 16 final four teams of the last four seasons. This Chiefs team is a little closer to the middle but still not exactly a powerhouse.

2016 Patriots - 191
2019 49ers - 169
2017 Patriots - 162
2017 Eagles - 162
2018 Saints - 151
2017 Jaguars - 149
2018 Chiefs - 144
2018 Rams - 143
2019 Chiefs - 143
2016 Falcons - 134
2017 Vikings - 130
2018 Patriots - 111
2016 Steelers - 72
2019 Titans - 71
2019 Packers - 63

2016 Packers - 44

Note that the 2016 Steelers and 2016 Packers both finished very low in point differential and got curb stomped in the conference final game, though they had the “team of destiny” song playing too. I think it’s 49ers vs. Chiefs in the SB.

That was when we all learned Flacco was "elite".

What in the actual f happened to that dude in the 2012-13 postseason though? 11 TDs, 0 INTs???

I’ve watched every super bowl since 2001 a chiefs/Packers matchup will be the first I skip. I will avoid all media outlets

He played out of his mind. Combine that with those ravens who seemed to thrive under pressure. Can’t say that about the ravens the past 2 years.

You're likely gonna miss a very fun SB if that does happen. Your choice though. I kinda hope that does happen. Then again I wouldn't mind the cinderella underdog titans going all the way.

Lin-Sanity is the only comparable stretch I can think of like that. And both guys made like $100M for a month of playing way above their normal output.

2007 Eli Manning was the same. Everyone talks about how they beat us but just to get there they beat a high powered dallas and green bay if I remember correctly. Tannehill and the Titans are eerily similar to that imo.

I think Titans can pull an upset.

1) Controll the clock
2) Don't let Mecole/Hill return kicks
3) Erase Kelce

Number 1 is the easiest part because they have one of the best/ maybe the best running game in the NFL.

Number 2 is about field position. Without good field position Mahomes was having a rough time. He had 3 TDs in a quarter and less than 100 yds.

Kelce is on fire. I watched just a few games and Mahomes was not nearly as good as he was last year IMO. So erase Kelce and pray that Hill/Watkins/Hardman can't beat you.

KC is not going to lose.

Too much drafted talent. Kelce, Hardman, the Wife Beater,. The RBs are good enough.

Houston are perennial chokes so I dont put too much stock on yesterday. BoB goes for it on 4th and 1 or just doesnt go for a fake punt at your own 30 and they likely win that game IMO.

Titans have the defense and the offense to beat KC. They can go on long drives with Henry running the ball to shorten the game. If Titans get up, believe me they wont make the same mistakes that houston did

KC is a obvious favorite but I think the way to beat KC is to make the game as physical as possible, limit the big plays and make Mahomes think. Ravens O didn’t have the receivers KC does but their OL was better and they were more physical overall. Get very aggressive with Hill and Kelce. They need to be pushed around, hit hard as they come off the line on passing plays. though I wonder if the Titans corners are good enough. Mahomes is a great improviser but his reads aren’t so great yet, so Dean Pees should throw every exotic scheme under the sun at him.

Tennessee’s OL is very good and I’m not even sure 8 in the box can stop Henry. Tannehill could have a big day against that secondary.

Not to mention all the PI they got under throwing receivers

Not sure we would have beaten KC last night had we advanced. What do you guys think?

Strange things can happen but I don't think so. We just weren't playing well at the end of the year.

I think the titian's time is running out. KC is just too good.
