Yet we are still watching Coryell football on the field every week while Dungy talks about it.
My core issue here is it's unconscionable recognising and celebrating one of the game's premier innovators isn't an essential part of the HoF. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that watched football pre & post Coryell that doesn't continue to see his impact on the game to this day.

I don't expect that anyone under 50 would be p!ssed off by it but it is disheartening how casually some supposed football fans just dismiss Coryell and don't even recognize we as Pats fans see his version of offense every game.
I don't entirely disagree with you, but I think there has to be some objective standard and in the HOF it is mostly results based. If some QB came out and changed the whole game Johnny Unitas style, but for some reason only went to the playoffs 6 or so times and never won a SB, they'd have an exceptionally hard time getting in based off the standards of everyone else.

What I don't like about the Cowher Hall of Fame admit, is that it probably makes certain that Trippin Mike Tomlin gets in when he retires.

To a certain extent I agree there should be some type of objective standard but that has to go out the window when it comes to evaluating the very few true innovators the game has seen. What objective standard do you apply to someone when it comes to reinventing the offensive game? By it's very nature the act defies the application of a standard.

The entire discussion regarding relative merit is nothing more than an exercise though. With the selections of Cowher & Johnson the Hall of Fame has redefined itself as the Hall of Famous

God help us. All he needs to do is go on TV for a few years and he's a shoo in

I do agree with Jimmy Johnson. He was great in DAL. Longevity was no doubt a minus.

I think this describes HOF Dan Fouts’ career. But only four playoff seasons.

Fouts had like 4 All Pros, great stats for his era, and likely got screwed out of an MVP because of the shortened season.

I don’t think Coryell was ever the best coach in football

Fouts was awesome. Bad defenses .

Am fine with Jimmy Johnson making it though his NFL career was extremely short.

HOF QB is the only position that really interests me and am curious to see what happens in the coming years. If Eli makes it in with his lifetime .500 record and below average stats then the HOF needs to be prepared to build a new QB wing. Flacco was exceedingly average but had similar post season success to Eli so he should expect a call as well and with QB numbers exploding players like Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford who will likely both retire with 70,000 + passing yards and 500+ TDs will need to be included as well.

I am more in the camp of top 3 or 4 QB's per era/decade should get in but I have a bad vibe that the floodgates are about to be opened.

My HOF QBs for this era:
1st Ballot:Brady, P. Manning, Brees, Rogers
Get in but need to wait: Big Ben, Wilson (could move to 1st line if he keeps it up)
Outside looking in: Rivers, Eli, Luck (not close to me but will get consideration) Matt Ryan -
Ryan could jump to Big Ben line if he were to win a title and play another 7+ years

Andre the Giant was wearing a blue suit this time.

Cowher in the HOF is a joke. 149 regular season wins. 12-9 in playoffs with one Championship is not enough in my book. Good coach, enjoy his commentary but the HOF is meant for icons of the sport and he falls short.
Should by all rights be only 11-10...2005 SB was stolen from Seattle & given to Sh!tsdirt by the criminally corrupt & incompetent zebras as Tagliabue's going-away present to Bettis.

Good coach but standards are clearly relaxing.

Yeah, and Harold Carmichael made it in as well. From Philly and watched him a ton. He used his height well but he was not HOF material. What I would say that if he is in, Stanley Morgan should be in.

I would put Big Ben in front of Brees and Rogers. Brady and Manning are clearly ahead of everyone else.
