The Herd: "Brady may be at fault for Pats' WR woes"

Agree, you’re that the time for teaching and developing rapport is offseason. That’s why I say Brady skipping team sessions for family time is very significant.

No, it's not significant. I've been over this about a million times. All that's missed with OTAs if a few hours of field time, and routes can be run and learned with the other QBs, even if timing issues need to be polished off with the starter, eventually. If we were talking about Brady skipping weeks of training camp, that would be a different story.

Also, AB already knew how to be a professional football diva, he didn’t need Brady’s teaching him anything.

Brady was having him stay at his house, and was helping him with the playbook. So I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. If you're trying to say that WRs coming from other systems never have an adjustment period, I'm going to have to ask you to take a breathalyzer test.

You’d have a better argument about Thomas if Brady had taught him well enough to stick on the roster.

Why? Belichick making the mistake of letting Thomas go doesn't undercut my point about Thomas getting the offense, at all.

The following players had worse separation than Harry: Devante Parker, Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Terry McLaurin, Mike Williams. Harry had basically the same stat as Julio Jones, AJ Brown, and Allen Robinson.

The stat is completely meaningless.

I think it’s because the last few games teams just stopped covering Sanu. I mean, what’s the point of wasting a defender? That would cause his separation average to go way up.

People talking about the importance of OTAs remind me of anti-vaxxers.

Nah. Unlike the OTA people, anti-vaxxers have some excellent arguments.

He wasn't even on the team until after the season started, and he only played in one game. Use your freakin' head.
Uhh... he wasn’t kicked off the team until he sent those text messages to that painter. Couldn’t stay off twitter even with all the trouble around him but yeah sure he is the faultless one here.

Sanu saw more targets in Atlanta, where he was generally seeing a team's third best corner and having space cleared in the slot by Hooper as well.

I like Colin Cowturd and some of his takes but this one was pure crap, first he started comparing JimmyG with a young silicon valley nerd bulding a tech company pure nonsense then this thing about Brady being fault for BB choosing the wrong guys in the draft.

Maybe he is right at pointing the actors on the process but for the wrong reasons. I can see Brady having a % in our inability to develop and bring in WR who get up to speed in that same season, but not because he can't extend plays. That's just stupid, if he thinks the Texans, Seattle, GB, have more success at WR because their QB's can extend plays, there's a different name for that, it's called broken plays. It's not on the playbook, there's no evaluation here, everything that happens after a broken play is pure improvisation.

But yes, Brady always had this thing, a hard time to get on the same page with new receivers. That's because our offense is complex than others people used to compare in the past that had better success with WR, Steelers, Manning Colts, etc..

Brady may not have the strongest arm or the best accuracy compared to Rodgers, prime Manning, but for me QB is all about the brain first then the arm, and in that regard, Brady always had a Intel I7 octa core (or whatever is the best processor in the market) in his brain while others had a I3 at best (and some a 486). That's a blessing and a curse at the same time because this offense makes average guys look good, and given the Patriots have been drafting at the end of the draft for decades, you better have a system with that characteristic instead of relying in pure talent and phisicality but at the same time it's this, you have to pass on talent (do they?) if they think the player won't be able to grasp the offense and some other difficulties.

Here's the thing, they have to figure this s.hit out man. Remember not to long ago when QB's drafted by Cleveland felt like it was a death sentence? I'll tell you this man, 1st and 2nd round WR's (any round actually) must be in that same spot if they are drafted by the Patriots, they don't have a choice but it must be terrifying. What do WR's want? Break the bank. And they are not wrong. For that, they have to put numbers, at least a 1000 yards per season, a few TD's, some highlight catches even though this is just a plus.

In the Patriots, if they don't get redshirt, they have a hard time mastering the playbook, even if they get the playbook, the Pats offense and philosophy in general does not focus on numbers or stats, so things have to go really well the whole season for a WR to put up those numbers.

That extend to mid FA's to some extent. Look Dorsett, he is garbage but he had somewhat of a decent season last year, bet on himself in the free agency and started the season well just to vanish again. I can't help but wonder he might have done better in other systems. Like Aaron Dobson, he had a much better rookie season than Harry, then the injuries and some other factors kicked him out of the league but I don't know, he could have done pretty well in other teams.

I'm not giving up on Harry, I think he did show some things to keep the coaching staff with hopes for a better season next year, the comparison between Harry and Metcalf, you know, for a moment make that switch, put DK Metcalf here losing half season and Harry in Seattle without the pre season injury and having to run 2 or 3 go routes playing with a QB that can put the ball right on the money with a nice touch? Who knows?

We are in a situation that you have the GOAT QB and instead of WR's want to play with him badly, it might be just the opposite. If I were a NFL agent of a WR getting out of his rookie contract, wanting to play for a team, make a name and still get a 2nd FA contract, I'd have serious restrictions about going to NE.
