Am I the only one who hates the 17 game regular season proposal from a statistical perspective?

I love my stats. I love my 16 game stats. It’s a great way to keep reference of team and player performance over the years. It’s been a perfect balance.

Putting seasons to 17 games will completely mess up the balance of statistical records, and it flat out looks uneven.

How am I supposed to feel about a 10-7 record? 13-4? 7-10? It sounds gross. I can’t stand it.

No, everyone hates it except for 32 greedy billionaires who are looking to buy an extra yacht.

I don’t like it either. Not of fan of comparing 14 game vs 16 game, but most of all I guess I don’t like change.

For the union to give and extra game they had to have got something in return for the compromise. Was it mentioned what it was? Hoping for a goodbye to Thursday night games, that might just be worth it.

Make my head spin 13-4 (The new 12-4) 14-3 (The new 13-3) 15-2 (The new 14-2), 16-1 (15-1) 17-0 (16-0) 20-0 (19-0).

17 is the worst of all worlds.

I don’t think the issue is even remotely resolved, so there is nothing we can point to in order to say what the union got in exchange for a longer season.

This, IMHO, is an interesting situation. The owners are quite used to getting their way, but this particular issue is very unpopular with the general public, so I think they’ll have to either back down or make a HUGE concession.

Hate is a strong word, but I agree with the general sentiment of disliking the idea WRT the normalization of stats across seasons of differing lengths historically.

Regards,
Chris

Everybody wins with an 18 week, 16 game season with 2 bye weeks.

Naturally the NFL doesn’t want that.

More games mean more chances for injuries. I guess these owners enjoy going to the playoffs with injured starters.

I prefer regular season games to pre-season games; it's really that simple. So, I prefer a 17 game season to a 16 game season.

As far as no one wanting this, we'll see. The schedule will be part of the negotiations.

That doesn’t work. Spreads the games out too thin. They tried it once. It’s tough enough giving us 3 decent matchups per week as it is.

Never cared for stats, but having 16 games is hard enough to keep everyone healthy. 17 would require more roster spots which means more cap more PS positions...

The owners propaganda has made you believe that preseason games must be replaced by a regular season game as an either/or.

The preseason will be just as long regardless. And teams will scrimmage; you just won’t be able to watch it.

So, you believe that there still will be 4 preseason games?

Scrimmages are now an option for teams. Do you think that they will be mandatory?

With regard to propaganda, we are really discussing negotiating positions.

I am against an extra game as I prefer playoff teams to be as healthy as possible. Attrition is bad enough as is. Starters barely play in pre-season so dropping a game does nothing for the health of the players. Do not care about the statistical impact/changes. W/L numbers are just for seeding. QB stats are already completely distorted and RB stats are more of an afterthought. Michael Thomas setting an all-time catch record was nothing historic from my perspective either.

Honestly I don’t care how many preseason games there are. There just shouldn’t be 17 regular season games. And the playoff field is exactly right. The 16 game schedule and 6 playoff teams is a huge part of the popularity of football. It’s perfect.

Also is there another sports league on the planet with an odd number of games? You can even look for Pee Wee sports to try to find one of these.
