Give Brady Whatever He Wants

I don’t even understand why this is discussion. If Brady leaves then it’s Bran the Broken in New England.

The Patriots should be thrilled if Brady returns. He gives them a chance to win and it would be great to see him retire with the team. There seems to be almost no benefit to letting him go. This isn’t like a succession situation like Favre/Rodgers or Manning/Luck and it isn’t like the dilemma is about keeping him or trading him for some massive draft haul whereby they can rebuild. Losing Brady just gets you a zero in return...some extra cap space saved though you still need a veteran QB who will cost money. The whole Brady OR rebuild thing just makes no sense to me. They’re going to go out and try to find the best players at the best values whoever the QB is, so their approach is unlikely to change either way. If they love a QB in the draft, they’ll go for him whether they have Brady or not.

The fact is Brady is the one with all of the leverage. There are greener pastures out there, and if there were ever a time to bet on himself outside of New England, that time is now. I’m just hoping he’ll decide to stay in New England; I’m shocked there seem to be so many who want him to move on despite having no Jimmy G or really promising plan B at QB.
I don't know & I'm not trying to talk **** but its a spoiled fan base that really doesn't have a clue of what's coming.

I say that bc of all the "competitive roster" talk. Like do people really believe we'll be competing for a SB with Stidham with some upgrades at WRS/TE? We're going to bring in all these moving parts & a young QB will make that work?

You'd think the money going to Tom is coming out of their pocket.

Idk I almost want it to happen bc these are the same people that piss themselves when we lose a lead. Never mind a game.

I'm shocked at how many think we'll be competitive without Brady.

Sure we'll bring in a New QB & he'll just hit the ground running. We'll bring in new WRs/TEs & everything will mesh perfectly in 1 off season.

Sure we'll be real ... Competitive

I'm sorry but spoiled fans that only watch NEP would say this. And all due respect most have agendas (doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that out) & don't actually watch tape. It's repeating the same drool that someone else said.

Please go take a few minutes to look at final 4 teams, SB teams & SB winners. Without a QB you're not "competitive" or a threat to do any damage in the playoffs.

This team, as presently constituted, is at risk of not being a legitimate playoff threat in 2020 with or without Brady. Unfortunately it's not shaping up as a matter of Brady's presence tipping the balance toward another Super Bowl title. The roster will have significant turnover and needs all available $$$ to fill holes both current and pending via free agent losses.

The roster concerns are real: 20 free agents including 10 starters/heavy contributors and four front-line special teams players. Significant help is needed at TE, FB, WR and OL. It's difficult to remember a year when the roster was this much in flux while also needing to get younger/faster/stronger all around.

He’s saying we don’t know if BB is the GOAT coach because of Brady or Brady is the GOAT QB because of BB. Frankly I’d rather not find out.
No, that is your interpretation to what he is saying. My belief is BB is the GOAT. I want Brady back at the right price. However, I don't abandon ship if Brady is not back because I trust BB decisions. BB will make the decision that is best for the team without any emotions.

Gasper just now - SOMETHING CHANGED AND MOST LIKELY SCENARIO IS BRADY RETURNS TO PATS

I think the spirit of the original post is fine. But "Give him whatever he wants" is a dangerous idea. If what he wants is a ton of money and X number of additional elite weapons, but all that comes at the cost of a defense that can make a stop, is anyone (including Brady) going to actually be happy with that in the end? Was Brady happier in 2017 when he threw for 500 yards in a Super Bowl but lost? There's a value and a situation that is tenable for both Brady and the team, they just need to figure out what it is.

Well, there's like a 20 year precedent of him taking reasonable deals and working with modest talent. I have a feeling you could probably give him a blank check and he'd still come up with something that works for the success of the entire team.

I'm too cheap. $25m-$27m is as high as I go as they also need to upgrade WR and TE.
I don't think it will need to go to 25m to sign him. I think he won't take a home team discount means he won't take 15m or something like that. I think brady signs for low 20s if there is some sort of assurance that the Pats will address the offensive shortcomings in terms of talent. And that does not mean signing 5 versions of Demaryius Thomas and hoping one still has something left.

I'd also like to see them use a late round pick on a kicker if there is one they like.

I’d like to see them use a 4th or 5th round pick on a kicker. No doubt.

That must mean that they will sign AB in the off-season.

Apparently OJ took a stab at this debate in an Instagram post. Cutting straight to the point, OJ says Tom will definitely return to the Patriots.

I wonder how many of us fans and even Bob Kraft for that matter we’re willing to go with TB over Drew in 2001.

...or how many of us knew how great Tom was going to be.

Which is why in BB I trust. Eternally.

Well, that settles it. Better lock the thread now.

I didn’t like it at first. I thought it was messed up Bledsoe lost his job like that.

Whether Brady was a one year wonder or not, you had to go with him after they won the Super Bowl.

Brady will not re-sign until the Pats trade or sign a bona fide WR. It’s either re-sign AB or trade for an elite talent. Problem is, there’s not much available that we know.
Does he wait until after the draft?

They shouldnt bother giving him anything if they're just going to surround him with scrubs and a patchwork Oline.

Don't need to see one of my "idols" over the last 20 years getting obliterated by defensive lineman and struggle to produce on offense in his final years. That would be a crappy way to go out, thats why if Im Brady and the Pats don't make some sort of commitment to fixing the offensive problems, there is absolutely no way I come back for another year

There is also no point in paying Brady $25+ million a year if they wont sure up the offense. You could get a rookie to come in and put up 13 points in the wild card round with a bunch of scrubs.

Hindsight is 20/20 and all, just frustrating to think they could have had a few solid FA WRs last year but they cheaped out over a relatively small amount of money with guys like Humphries, then they blow $9+ mill cap room on AB and are paying guys like Sanu $6.5m to be below average (granted Sanu could turn things around with a full offseason and training camp), with a 2nd rounder to boot... ouch.

because, I don’t know how good he’ll be next year let alone in 3 years
They can cut him after 2 if they don’t still want him. They aren’t obligated to the 3rd year. The more years they have the more choices they have to dole out the cap hits
