Give Brady Whatever He Wants

I agree Brady should be the exception to one year early vs one year late, but I would not commit more than one season at a time. One more year of the good Brady could mean an additional super bowl so certainly worth the risk of having him a year too much. A 3 year deal at this stage though, no way.

How is NO going to re-sign Brees with a $21.3M void year hit (vs. Brady's $13.5M)? Anyone believe NO won't re-sign Brees, and they only have about $4.9M in cap space.

I think the spirit of the original post is fine. But "Give him whatever he wants" is a dangerous idea. If what he wants is a ton of money and X number of additional elite weapons, but all that comes at the cost of a defense that can make a stop, is anyone (including Brady) going to actually be happy with that in the end? Was Brady happier in 2017 when he threw for 500 yards in a Super Bowl but lost? There's a value and a situation that is tenable for both Brady and the team, they just need to figure out what it is.

And yet, as in all things human, your desire to be "logical" is driven entirely by emotion. Being "logical" requires the exercise of emotional competencies. It isn't about being less emotional, it is about using emotions in a certain way.
The desire to be logical by definition is driven by intellect. It is logical that emotional reasoning is a shortcoming.

I actually have no emotion regarding my opinion that I trust Kraft and Belichick on this. Besides the fact I have no control over the outcome

I’ll have emotion once the decision is made

No one is devoid of emotion. But emotion or feelings should never be valued over intellectual reasoning in forming an opinion. That is why I always lower my voice when in a discussion where the other person is raising theirs.

If by "Whatever he wants", you mean: Antonio Brown and some competent TEs then I agree.

What are the rules for when Brady can begin discussing with other teams? Does he have to wait until March 18th?

Tom Brady is a special player and a special person. He's not some RB that you move "a year early rather than a year late." He's the legend of all legends of Boston sports, maybe American sports. If I have to wait an extra 2 years to get to the post-Brady rebuild in order to honor Tom Brady and make sure he retires here, so be it as far as I'm concerned.

Sign him to a two or three year deal immediately so we can focus on the real task at hand, which is quickly revamping this offense. I think we need to use the entire draft on offense. Draft a franchise OT in the first round and kick Wynn inside to guard. Then take a few stabs at TE/WR.

Only problem with your statement above is if you sign him for what he wants, you're left too broke to revamp anything.

I agree with this if it's a two year deal. Brady has never been unreasonable and I don't expect him to start to be now.

Yes, just like any free agent

Little chance the Pats sign him to more than a 1 year deal. If he's looking at 2-3 years he's not going to find any takers...

Why?how does a 3rd year hurt the team?

It will be at least 2 due to the current contract and bonus structure. Why would a 3rd year be bad for the team.

The only reason is if Thuney gets a monster offer and leaves

Seems to me it'd be easier to draft a replacement at guard than it would be to draft a tackle and move the existing tackle to guard.

Because Thuney may get a monster deal elsewhere and Wynn wasn't spectacular at LT.

By the end I thought Wynn looked really good at LT. To the extent there are questions about his ability I don't think they come anywhere near meriting a change of position. Not to mention spending a first round pick when the team has so many other pressing needs.

In the old days he would have had to wait until March 18th.

But a few years ago the league initiated the "legal tampering period" which I think is the week leading up to the start of free agency and the new league year.

Of course, if you think players and teams aren't talking before the start of the legal tampering period I have a bridge to sell you.

I get that we can't really let him go but the absolute maximum I would go is 2/50. I'd really prefer 2/40 with incentives (including showing up to OTAs) but 2/50 would be as high as I could go.

Whatever he wants? Ha ha. Nope.
