The problem with making a big splash in FA signing

I would take any of those WR Cousin. 2020 might wind up being like the George Allen years when he based his whole Team on Vets with the Redskins. The "Over-the-Hill Gang"—the aging Redskin veterans who seemed to save their best efforts for the most important games. They were extremely competitive.

Let's face it. TB likes Veterans. Drafting WR has been ugly here. All those mentioned guys come with injury questions. If healthy they could comprise the best Team of WR in the League. Add Edelman who might be the elder here and you have four 30+ guys.

A different road?

TE was a missing element in 2019. It was a complete non-factor. I start the makeover (reload ) with Brady of course but now I am paying through the nose for a pair of 25 year old TE's in Henry and Hooper......whatever it takes say $10mm-$11mm per. The Pats are built for TE play.

We have $49mm now available and the 2020 salary is thought to be $201.2mm. If GM was my Title, I am moving on with some and reloading with others.

The shockers are trading Hightower who is a liability on the pass and player badly the last two games. His CAP costs are over $11mm. Did he play to that value? No....... Cannon who was awful this year at $9mm. Harmon at $5.5mm. Who pays a 3rd string S that kind of money? And if you can get something Chung is $6mm and hurt always. He could not cover this year at all.

Now I am moving on from JMAC, Brooks, LaCosse and King. So your total savings BETWEEN ALL are roughly $41.6mm. Our CAP space would be $90mm.

Is Gostkowski worth his salary at $5.2mm? Folk wasn't that bad. I am trading Sony Michel because you have Damien Harris. Think knees.......... Those two moves bring us $8mm

Now call it $98mm available ...........minus Rookie Draft class.

I am bringing back Thuney, Shelton, Collins, Butler and Karras. J.C. Jackson needs an extension and I'd have to resign Folk. So maybe $32mm roughly there. Perhaps Calhoun if we trade Hightower. Roberts might take a discount to stay.

That leaves $64mm;
My two brand new TE's cost $22mm.
I would look at Safety Juston Simmons (BC Kid) with 97 Tackles at 3 INTS. Maybe $9mm
I would look at RT Bulaga at $7mm
I would trade for John Ross on the Bengals who is cheap and 4.2 speed. He is an ascending player. He was available at one point. He is the player Dorsett was supposed to be. $5.4mm. As a backup, Rishard Higgins who is buried on the Browns.....$2.5mm.

That leaves $21mm +$6.7mm or roughly $28mm for Brady. I am sure that can be tweaked up.

I don't know if that works but it fits. Plus we add some Draft picks. Hightower and Michel are the best "chips".
Thoughts?

sorry i couldnt find the get rid of Sanu asap part

If I were BB, I would focus on getting solid assets via trades or the draft (!). I wouldn't be expecting too much via FA.

I long ago stopped expecting him to do anything else.

If by non homer choir you are talking about fans who care more about fun games and stats than winning then bingo.

I am talking about Fans like myself who would love to see Brady with a Talent like AB and not the Sanu and Dorsetts of the world.

We need someone to tell Beckham to act like even more of an ass that he sometimes has in the past, and force the Browns to trade him to the Pats.

Everything else can be business as usual, try to be smart drafting, sign some low-end free agents, re-sign some key guys. You get that kind of receiver you’re right back in the mix.

(I’m hoping I edited this post before anyone saw my typo, I originally said re-sign some cute guys instead of key guys. Oops.)

This am Zolak mentioned basically selling out the D and making Brady happy w more WEAPONZ. He said basically Krafty Bob would / could convince Brady to come back at a "workable #" (whatever that is) and promise Brady he'd have this guy, that guy, this guy around him on offense...BUT, since the club is spending lots of assetts (cap space/draft picks/trades) to surround Brady with WEAPONZ the defense would be average at best.... Zolak said he sees no other way Brady comes back
Kraft making promises about team construction sounds like a good way to make Belichick leave.

I think Emmanuel Sanders and AJ Green would be Great pick ups for a Brady lead Team. AJ Green was shut down last year should be healthy by TC 2020.
Green scares the hell out of me. We'd have to give 12+ mill a year for a guy who can't stay healthy. Sanders is getting up in age, but he's 1,000 x the fit than Sanu was. I was angry when we sent a 2nd round pick for Sanu, would've been thrilled to send a 2nd round pick for Sanders.

I agree with the premise put forth by the OP. Money is always the #1 factor....but other factors do come in play...remember Derrick Mason choosing to sign with the Ravens over the Pats because his wife liked Baltimore better and Adam Humphries choosing the Titans because he gave them his word first. Even Bruschi and Brown explored playing for the Packers and the Jets before deciding to resign and retire respectively due to their loyalty for the Pats (love those guys!). Also, there are other factors like state income taxes, warm weather, etc...etc.....

I believe our best shot is to trade for veterans. Brady doesn't do well with rookies....and free agent pickings are slim this year, IMO.

Bottom line, I think our OL will be better next year with Mason/Cannon bouncing back, Andrews returning, Wynn getting 1/2 a season under his belt, and depth (Forholdt and Cajuste). I love our RB room with Michel, White, Harris, Burkhead (possible cap casualty), and Bolden. I love Edelman and think he'll be fine next year...and I believe Snau, Harry, and Meyers will be much better next year. So, we really only need 5 things on offense:

a.) A fullback...whether that is Develin or not.
b.) A blocking TE.
c.) A move TE that is actually enough of a threat to get 5-6 targets a game.
d.) A new LG...whether it is in house or a trade for a veteran or a guy we can move from another position.
e.) A true outside receiver that can open up the offense....Dorsett wasn't that guy....

Assuming the Patriots re-sign even a few of their own free agents, there will be
very little salary cap money left to make a splash in free agency.

Yo know there’s ways of adding more money right? Extensions or even cuts.

Might be more than you think Cousin.
We are at $49mm available now and the new CAP is $201mm expected.

BB is going to have to do something he doesnt normally do if he wants to sign AJ Green, the price tag is going to be high and we have 40 mil in cap space.

I know but we are desperate If the Franchise Tag goes on anybody we like slim pickings or nothing. Brady will not Sign back here to play with Rookies he wants NOW! Players.

I know you want a big name but brady can play with any receiver that can beat man coverage or whateva coverage is thrown their way. Just get someone opposite Edelman who can do that. Also hope that meyers and especially Harry get better. I like Meyers as a future slot guy. Hope he works on his game.

Get it done

Right, more concerned with fun and stats than winning.
