Here's the glaring problem I see, if BB tries to make a big splash in FA signing, on either side of the ball.
Imagine you are a big name UFA. You priority is going to be long term security and money. If New England signs Brady to an one or two year contract and comes calling for you, the very first thing on your mind is going to be: how long does Brady play? Is it just one year? Two? How close to the cliff is he?
Would you want to take a risk and sign with New England for one good year and potentially a transition year where everything becomes mediocre? Or would you go somewhere where the QB has his whole future ahead of him?
If I were BB, I would focus on getting solid assets via trades or the draft (!). I wouldn't be expecting too much via FA.
