Bedard: Belichick “rumblings”

Belichick is gonna be 68 in a few months. Would he really want to rebuild an organization now?

I think he’s grooming his sons and when they are ready (3-4 years) he’s moving solely into the GM role here and Steve Belichick will be his coach.

He rebuilt the Pats in 2 off- seasons. The 99 Pats were arguably in tougher shape than the 2019 Giants.

And where would he he without pulling the goat out of his ass?

Bill is good, he ain't THAT good.

That pats team had quite a few defensive studs and a top pick to work with AND they lucked into brady.

Let's see what he does without that head start.

Do you think Belichick sees it that way? Plus, you don’t need the GOAT to win a Super Bowl. Brady wasn’t the GOAT when he won his first.

Questioning if BB can pull it off is one thing and a legitimate thing to wonder about.

Outright rooting him for to fail is something else. SMDH.

If bill doesnt see that he had milloy, law, both teddy's and willie while adding Seymour and brady in his first two seasons then I'm not the man to properly quantify the ****ing ego he must have.

All bill needs to know is he has 1 playoff win in the 30 something years he was a coach before brady and I cant even count how many after

Bill is the goat. But brady is the GOAT.

Settle down bill and reign it in.

Bill doesn't wanna push Brady out the door.

That's actually SMDFH

Gettleman still has his job because Giants don’t want him joining up with Rivera in Washington. He’d work FOR Belichick just like Bobby Grier did in 2000 until after the draft and be gone after if Belichick doesn’t respect his advice or loyalty.

That's an interesting angle and I don't know much about it, but it certainly sounds plausible.

BB is going to be 68 just before the draft. He worked for the Giants 30 years ago when Tim Mara still owned the team. I'm not sure he would want to uproot himself and his family to try to rebuild the Giants, who are probably at least two years away from contending for a playoff spot. Plus, I think he'd rather work for the Krafts than Mara and Tisch.

Lol. Yes, Mara and Tisch are the brain clog that BB wants to work for because they block Gettleman from joining that immaculate triumvirate of Snyder, Gettleman and Rivera. Genius.

Sure. It’s a different game now though. You’re just part of the pack.

I’ve had anxiety over the futures of Brady, Belichick and our Patriots since Saturday. I even had a couple of panic attacks....just kidding!:p

I’ll deal with whatever happens since I have no choice but to wait until decisions are made. And I’ll admit, I don’t like waiting

Part of the reason Belichick lost his job in Cleveland was due to his benching of Bernie Kosar for Vinny Testaverde, even though he was shown to be completely right.

Belichick was 5-13 in New England when Bledsoe got hurt, and went 5-2 with Brady. Bledsoe had just gotten a huge extension and was still viewed as a big name and talent who brought the Pats to a Super Bowl a few years earlier. What other head coach at the time in those circumstances would have kept him on the bench once he was cleared to play?

What other head coach would have kept 4 QBs on the roster in 2000 with Bledsoe as the starter?

Yes, Belichick lucked out in getting Brady. But he was smart enough to recognize what he had and go with it.

Neither Mara or Tisch have been brought up on solicitation charges in the last year or left a contracted camera crew unsupervised to break NFL rules by filming a sideline during a game leading the franchise to relive the infamy of SpyGate and face further penalty from the NFL.

Also, I think it’s kind of smart not to let an employee go free to help an opponent when you don’t have to. Why give Snyder and company any help?

Frankly, the conversation is simple-minded, Ken, but if you want to pretend you know what's important to BB then, Ok. Let me try.

1. Where is BB's family?
2. Do you think he appreciates what Kraft did for him? That Kraft saw something in him that others took for granted? Gave him another HC's shot. Full control. HIS team.
3. If you think BB didn't care about the warts of players (such as Moss, Dillon, AB, etc.) you think he cares about a Florida * or two? Please. BB understands the flaws in people and looks past it. He's not that shallow especially someone he has history with.
4. As far as the Marketing stuff, you think Kraft had any idea about it except the finished product? Gimme a break. It's like BB being blamed because a player failed a drug test.

Giants are hiring Ruhle unless he tells them no.

How has Kraft been interfering too much in football operations recently?

Jimmy G traded at Brady’s request.
AB released to take the heat off Krafts happy ending.

Those were Krafts decisions.

His Jets resignation makes total sense in the real context. Rich Cimini always leaves the most obvious parts out for his pro-Jets-centric talking points.

For those "confused," I was referring to the fact that the Jets lured back Belichick the prior year when he was offered jobs to be a HC elsewhere, and they made promises to him.

But why would that bind Belichick to the Jets? The contract was for his benefit, not so the Jets could entangle him.

And what Belichick really despised was the fact that Parcells got wind of the Patriots official request to interview, so he resigned immediately to entangle Belichick. Without even talking to Belichick to see if he wanted the job.

There was no negotiation with Belichick at all. They took away his say in the matter.

So what did they expect him to do? They played him for a chump.

i don’t really disagree with anything else you said but this part isn’t accurate. The benching (and eventual release) of Kosar in ‘93 left BB temporarily vilified...my uncle, who is a Bears fan and had no dog in the fight, HATED Belichick for this for reasons still unclear to me.

Indeed, by the time they made the playoffs behind Testaverde and won a game in ‘94 he was clearly vindicated, as you note. The forces that put CLE on the move to BAL and all that swirled around it the following season had nothing at all to do with Kosar. In the end, all BB really did to the guy was get him a SB ring when he went to the ‘93 Cowboys.

I don't think that Belichick is going anywhere. However, the Giants job has to be tempting.
